You know, if you're all combining bases, it might be wise for everyone to just use one villager trading hall instead of three people each having their own. That's an idea to reduce lag. I know it's up to those three, not Impulse, but this just occurred to me off the top of my head and I had to mention it before I forgot.

But the villagers are the source of their seperate emeralds for the resupply of their shops like gtrain. So they cant do that because that would just be boring for them.

I think he could have also built an entrance into Mumbo's chair that resembles a mine, where the factory gets its resources from. Then maybe filling the emptied out mine with the waste

The story could go: The byproduct that the facotry makes was so colorful, so the villagers on the mountain started using that as paint for their houses. You could match some of the blocks that mumbo uses, and you've already got the primariy colors being pumped out, so it matches perfectly. And maybe the villagers could be empolyed at the factory.

20:40 The waste fluids should candy'ify the area around them. That would help tie-in your base to Mumbo's a bit more, it could also be a place for a candy plant plantation.

I think Cleo mentioned once that "locking" the armor stands with the book reduce lag quite a bit. The problem are mainly the unlocked armorstand. Maybe ask her about that.

From what I know, the gravity setting is also important. If it is on, the armor stand needs a surface to stay in 1 place, but even when its not moving, it keeps calculating if movement is needed. Without gravity it stops this calculation of potential movement. And most of the times you want to have the armor stand creation fixed in 1 place anyway so its always better to do this.

Hmm, so if the villagers are in boats it may help, but the boats themselves increase lag. Does this offset, or does having villagers inside reduce in the end?

I think that you need to have the colored sludge stream enter into a “treatment building” where it exits as clean clear water that flows into the pool in Mumbo’s base.

@Oye Hoye Tango actually showed his F3 screen, it was no more than 800 boats. A lot, for sure, but boats don't have AI, just physics, so they shouldn't affect the server nearly as much per individual.

@@marklytical410 there are a lot of things in minecraft that cause lag. Armor stands, mobs, and item frames count as being entities (along with dropped items) but hoppers run a constant check for items above which causes lag, villager AI and mob AI in general causes lag due to the pathfinding and interaction aspect of it all, and it doesn't help that Mumbo created a lag machine with his storage system.

20:32 if you slow it down to the slowest playback speed, you can actually see a creeper blow up and make impulse lose some of this progress. It just shows how much time these guys spend on projects like this.

oh, Grian has been wanting to build a message system between the bases, maybe you can suggest a factory related system? Possible Laggy thing could be all the string some hermits are using to cancel out the snow. Tango could use the new snow blocks that you fall through to reduce a step or two.

I love the sludge pool/pipes, so colorful :) It might be cool to have them mix in an overflow becoming purple on one side, orange on the other and then brown where the mixes meet, the crying obsidian block would give it that toxic glow, possibly with some colored clouds/plumes of gas rising up, I'm gonna build something like that in my survival world for sure

8:10 Actually we can, hoppers needs to be locked by redstone to remove the lag, that's how huge storage halls works, there is a power line to activate the hoppers when the sorting systems works, and lock the hoppers when it's done. This way you can have thousands of hoppers without lags.

Exactly. I was also wondering about the composters. Don't they have an inventory for bonemeal? It shouldn't make make much of a difference to the lag, because the hopper will check wether it can pull something in versus wether it can suck an item in.

@@MultiFreak107 Composter are the most efficient to reduce hopper's lag (redstone lock still the best), but in Mumbo's case, he need to have the hoppers free to sort the items

I think the composters work because it causes it to switch over to the equivalent of checking block updates, instead of checking hundreds of times per minute for any possible items over a hopper.

As a way to connect the bases, at least story-wise, create a type of “Oompa Loompa” people with armorstands. They could work in your factory, use mumbo’s mountain and scar’s cloud city as residential areas, and be seen strolling through grian’s street shopping. It would be a cool backstory for the village!

Another idea for connecting the 2 bases would be to add bulldozers and cranes extracting resources like iron from inside Mumbo's structure. Giving the Vibe of industrialisation destroying natural structures (where people live) for their profit. It would also fit with Willy Wonka's candy obsession, doing anything that needs to be done to make unique candies.

Might be cool to like have little food stalls between yours and Mumbo's base like what in the Philippines (where Mumbo's base is influenced by) call karinderyas. And you can have the "villagers" (armor stands with custom attires/uniforms maybe?) Be lounging under trees or ind the stalls and going to the factory to work, which is a very likely situation especially in the PH. The pipes and waste goin near Mumbo's base is very witty tho! and sadly has truth in them

When I saw your pipes being built I for sure thought you were going to build them into mumbo's base! Grian was looking for way to connect you to the gigabase mail system. What if you had pipes going through the giga-range mountains delivering candy into a shop in Grian's alley which can also be used as a mail tube? Edit: I couldn't help to notice you used the Potatoman's (™️) colours lol I'm certain he'll love it. I wonder what would happen if he decided to take a dip in the candy byproduct. It's definitely not nuclear waste, right? RiGhT?

It's maybe a little thing, but I greatly appreciate the music you and Scar use for your time lapses. There's something deeply appropriate about the 80s flavored synth pop stuff in this weirdly retro-looking game. The exhaust tubes look great!

A nice idea to fill even more the space would be to make the candy affect nature! Maybe build some more candy trees, bushes and flowers, but this time with the block palette that you used for the stuff coming out of the pipes! Maybe some candy mushrooms growing in that one side of Mumbo's armchair would look very good!

recently I've been listening to radio shows from like 40s or 50s and the thing about Impulse's voice is that if he was born in like 1920s or something he easily would've been an one of those radio shows hosts. one of those famous ones that made everyone want to be home by the time his show would go on air.

A more Peace Love and Plants solution to connecting to the other bases would have been to connect the pipes into Mumbo's base, make the ends out of glass so we can see through and the story would be that the pipes are transporting resources into the mountain range, keeping it alive. The factory's byproducts are useful stuff that are used to power the Utopia, the Midnight Alley and Pearl and Scar's base.

I thought initially Scar was going to do a cloud base above the mountains. Maybe you should have multicolored smoke billowing into clouds over the mountain ranges. I really like the other ideas of colors polluting onto the Mumbo's base too. Also, although it would make sense for a standard factory, I don't think the 'pollution' from this factory should be harmful. It's a magical candy factory after all. It should just make life more colorful

Tango, you should have had the spouts coming out of Mumbo's mountain, pouring the fluids into pools, then you could have half-buried pipes bringing that liquid to your base. You could then get Pearl to make some candy trees for free that are corrupting/tainting the land and peace-love-and-plants around the pools, maybe even a leak running down the side of Mumbo's mountain. That would probably tie things together a little more. You could even terraform down to the coast there and have one of the pools threatening to breach containment and flow into the water. As for waste... well, there's a wonderfully white island off your coast that would be the perfect dumping ground. You could blame the pollution on them.

The tiny houses on Mumbo's mountain could be where your Oompa Loompas live. Then you can make like a ziplines or a bridge or some type of connection between your bases where the Oompa Loompas can go to and from work :)

Instead of the pipes you can make a bridge /sky bridge from mumbo’s mountain to the factory so it looks like the mountain villagers can come and work in the factory I know many people might not see this but I just had this random idea! Love your videos, I watch them with my whole family :D

You could connect one of the giant tubes str8 to the mountain and also use it as your escape passage in case of hostile invesion. Then it would be truelly base-connection experience.

You could also make Like a geode that supplies you with shards for your candy and connect that geode to mumbo's base as it is a planty base so that will go well and connect it with mumbo's base perfectly! Just an idea

To be clear on lag, there are 2 that you can try to combat here, and both have different sources (I'm deliberately excluding client to server latency as you can't do anything about that): Tick lag (Indicates that the server itself is struggling due to processing overhead): - Entities (An entity is anything that is not a fixed block. For instance, while sand is a block, falling sand is an entity because it isn't a fixed block in the world). These create tick lag by having updates bound to them that may or may not have to be checked every tick. The overhead of visiting potentially hundreds of animatable entities causes the server to spend large amounts of time processing things like pathfinding, gravity, collisions, etc. "Frozen" entities, such as boats who have no active currents, no velocity, no occupants and have been that way for some time, are not visited until they are interacted with, and generally don't impact server TPS much, if at all (Even with several hundred loaded, I imagine the boat bomb only really caused the server some strain when it was going off). - Tile Entities (A fixed block that either calls out for updates on every game tick, or checks for updates from peers on every tick). Hoppers and furnaces are 2 easy to understand examples of this kind of entity, as they are processing every tick (Furnaces progress the cooking progress of an item every tick and hoppers check for, and potentially accept from peers, item transfers every tick (Unless covered, in which case they just handle the item accept)). These entities cause Tick lag due to the processing overhead of visiting every tile entity and having them perform their task(s). The best way to manage this is to keep large clusters of tile entities away form trafficked areas of the server whenever possible, or optimizing their behavior, such as preventing the above-entity search that hoppers do by covering them with an event-sending inventory. - Network load spikes (Hitching when moving to specific chunk boundaries). Generally caused by loading several megabytes of metadata for a chunk, this can happen when a huge cluster of inventories are loaded. See Mombo's current base for an example this. The only way to reduce this is to lower the amount of data being loaded, generally by spreading it over several chunks, but could be inevitable for some builds. Once loaded, this doesn't factor into your general game performance outside of the prior cases (For instance, chests don't cause any real server/network lag once sent to clients) Framerate Drops (Indicates that your computer is struggling to handle the rendering of the current viewport due to one of many factors): - Can be caused by large number of non-solid blocks, as Minecraft has to render the reverse faces of the block. One good example is a stair. While the stair itself is negligible for causing render complexity, each one forces all 6 surfaces to be checked if it needs to be rendered (This process is actually more optimized than this example, as generally only the 3 or 4 unoccluded sides are actually rendered, but the example still stands), meaning you have to pay for the calculation for all of those surfaces. If we are talking 100 or 200, this is nothing, but scale that up to several thousand, and you will start to have performance issues if those stairs are placed in a way as to "expose" surfaces that would normally be hidden. I would suggest looking at this last, but it is the most complex one to understand, and, as a result, was explained first. - Rendered entities, especially animatable ones. Things like mobs, items, boats, paintings and minecarts are a source of framerate lag, as your client always renders them (As seen when the infamous chunk errors were a minute-by-minute occurrence on servers, or in more modern games when a server is struggling to send you chunks, but is still sending early entity data). Reducing their numbers, or having a mod cull how many are rendered, will help dramatically with this sort of FPS lag. - Large numbers of light volume changes, especially around and into the void. Light is pretty well known to be an issue for framerate, and lighting updates that go into the void are especially hard on the client. You might be able to resolve this by putting a small set of blocks, like half-slabs, at the top of the world above the void blocks in the boatem hole. Another good cause of lage is large sets of light updates, such as from redstone, so having redstone only active when needed, or sealing the redstone so the light updates are occluded as early as possible can potentially help. - Java VM Garbage Collection (GC). Usually not a major factor, but putting too much or too little memory will cause GC events to be a factor on your framerate, as the whole game pauses while those are happening. Tuning the GC is an art form in of itself, and would take quite a good bit of time, but allocating 1 or threads to GC tasks tends to help performance when a lot of other processing, especially with entities,. For small-scale vanilla, I tend to recommend between 2 and 3 GB of RAM, for very lightly modded, I recommend between 4 and 7, depending on the additional texture space, such as additional blocks, or higher resolution resource packs, and for heavily loaded packs, with thousands of new items and maybe hundreds of thousands of new textures, I recommend between 7 and 10GB. All of those memory allocations should be tested by going to the middle value and, if you are seeing bad performance consistently, such as choppy gameplay, then up the limit. If you are getting minor hangs after small periods of time, then lower the memory, and ALWAYS leave at least 1 thread for you operating system (And additional threads for supplemental programs, such as maybe keeping 2 or 3 aside for OBS).
