Yeah, use decorations to block all the 5x5 spaces... and they can only spawn on the full blocks, right? So you can also only prevent those spaces on the ground with decorations... LOTS OF POSSIBILITIES!
@NikkiTheViolist
@NikkiTheViolist 8 месяцев назад
iirc, transparent blocks like glass, bottom half-slabs, and carpets stop ghasts from spawning so you could use well-placed half-slab stone and half-slab sandstone and moss carpet in your build to remove their spawn locations if there's still any left

Buttons, trap doors, redstone dust, candles, lanterns, and so many other blocks will also prevent spawning. They need an entire 5x5 space, so putting occasional items on the ground will prevent them from spawning. X or Imoulse could certainly help you with it.
@durnominator
@durnominator 8 месяцев назад
@@NitFlickwick Technically, ghast are 4 blocks wide, so they need a 4x4x4 space. This extends to a 5x5 block area, since the 4x4 is centered on the block the ghast spawns on. This means that half a block on the edges of the 5x5 doesn't spawnproof against ghast, since it doesn't overlap with the hitbox of the ghast. Put anything you can collide with that overlaps with the 4x4 and the ghast doesn't spawn. So something like an open trapdoor at the edge of the 5x5 wouldn't stop the ghast from spawning, while for most blocks, that 5x5 rule works just fine for most blocks since their collision box reaches over the center line of the ghast. So you are mostly correct, as long as the obstacles aren't someting like doors or open trapdoors at the edges of the said 5x5, since it doesn't need the half a block wide rim of the 5x5, bur rather a 4x4 center of the 5x5.

It’s a good time to be a Hermitcraft fan. From Mumbo’s Season 1 retrospective to the perimeter cover-up, museum wars, more TCG and now wild Iskall sightings, so much fun for long time fans. My suggestion: a lush cave effect, with moss and glow berries and maybe some dripstone, might reduce the room for ghasts to spawn.

A combo of strategic slabs and carpets should prevent ghasts from spawning
@RyanEglitis
@RyanEglitis 8 месяцев назад
Ghasts will spawn on any solid block with a 5x5 space around it centered on that block, and 4 blocks of vertical space. *So basically, your beach is the problem* (and the tops of your orange container and schoolbus) - your steep cliffs don't have any solid blocks with 5x5 around them free. You can place down buttons, slabs, or carpet (or even iron bars) to block off contiguous 5x5 spaces - ghasts don't care about light levels, and any full blocks you place to block them would likely just become spawning spaces themselves. The above is why the other nether tunnels are safe - the middle is all dropped down to a half-slab. The full blocks are a half-block away from being spawnable near the middle.

@RyanEglitis
@RyanEglitis 8 месяцев назад
This won't work at all - you're thinking of bedrock. Ghast spawn blocking in Java only works in Soul Sand valleys, and only within 16 blocks. Besides, any way you'd "catch" a ghast would take it out of the mob cap, unless you want to allow it to despawn by not naming, or mine-carting it.

It is so incredibly uplifting to have you back Keralis. I love how you talk us through step by step how you create your masterpieces, it is so useful as a tutorial, so thank you first of all. The river looks fantastic with the fog effect, very natural. But perhaps that is why it looks out of place, uncanny almost. Minecraft rivers tend to be a shade darker in vanilla, maybe darker blue glass, or a mixture, would enhance an already magnificent vista (that nobody will ever see ;p)

EDIT: NM. I was getting confused with my string mechanics. String is only good for placing blocks. it doesn't stop mob spawning. Original message left for context [STRING is your solution. Place it every 4 blocks in height, and it will prevent the ghasts from spawning. And IIRC string doesn't prevent elytra flight.]

Nether roof: Black Stained glass 1-2 layers, behind them, some of those glowy ancient city blocks. This will replicate a star-ee night sky. Alternatively you can also do blue with a single layer containing white stained glass sploches here and there for a nice blue cloudy sky. And one big sea lantern circle for the sun. I recommend that for the beach river thing.

For the ghasts, they spawn over a solid opaque block and then float, so one option is to spawn proof the area. Another option is to ask someone to help you to make a mob switch by. (I'm sure that Doc can help you, once he comes back, and probably X can help too)

10:20 Carpets and slabs, keralis. That's why the ghasts aren't spawning on the main path. It's also enough to make sure they don't have enough space to spawn to prevent it. Similar to how you can use blocks to prevent spider spawns in a mob grinder but on a bigger scale.
@emryspaperart
@emryspaperart 8 месяцев назад
if you're still worried about the ghasts, smooth sandstone slabs will help! ghasts need air space AND valid/full spawning blocks, which is why the main hallway - all slabbed and carpeted - is fine

Keralis, your builds are beautiful because they have so much character. I look forward to exploring them for myself in the download. You can hire someone to build a few trees to decorate the area. If they are large enough, you can fill the gap to within 5 blocks of a portion of the ceiling, and then hang vines, leaves and maybe a tire swing to reduce ghast spawn areas. Like a weeping willow and a southern live oak with Spanish moss? Perhaps a flock of BDubs' birdies (from his Let's Play series) to fill a portion of the sky above the trees will also add depth while reducing ghast spawn areas?

Love this nether portal! At first I was concerned at the lack of portal, but it's future spot is mentioned. For ghasts proofing, what about glass clouds? It's already gloomy in the nether, so how about a rainy day? Glass rain. This also fixes the ceiling question. Between big palm trees, bushes, clouds, and rain you could prevent the ghasts from spawning. And an old train track going over the river and through the mountain would be super cool!

Ghasts need a 5x5 area, 4 high, to spawn. So if you add things hanging from the ceiling, you can stop them from spawning. I don't know if Glow Berries would block them, But Iron Bars, Fences and Walls will for sure. you could dangle lanterns at the bottom to give them a purpose. You could also use random blue glass panes in the air that looks like falling rain, but those would be harder to calculate if you leave any spots where they could spawn. They also need a solid block below in order to spawn, so making the floor out of glass, slabs and stairs, or carpets can stop them. But I'm not sure those would look good with your current build. Although there's always the option to mix and match! ^.^

The glass trick could work, but currently it looks like a fog-filled ravine, with straight rock walls. Real rivers aren't like that, they are quite shallow at the edges. If you built a river bed first and then fill it up with glass (make it deep enough though, espeacially in the middle so the fog effect works).

If you need more ideas ... could try a "foggy sky" maybe ... with blues and whites to fill up the space at the top to hopefully keep Ghasts away and sell the "overworld in the nether" look. Idk how easy that'd be though... ♥ Or add bushes... Bushes solve all problems!

I'm so very happy to see your video. Your nether tunnel looks amazing, an incredible design!

carpet, buttons, slabs, leaves, or string (if you want it to be basically invisible) on any spawnable block to prevent ghasts spawning keralis

String does not stop spawns! Strategicly placed lower slabs, carpets, moss carptets, trapdoors, glass panes and fence posts however will.
