Mediaman and ACWest have teamed up to bring us the Hero 5 Gen 5 master suite, a highly modular 3D printer part cooling system that supports most Creality and clone machines. It supports a variety of hot ends, ABL systems, blower fans in single and dual configurations, and is also compatible with parts from printermods.com and th3dstudio.com
In this video, I provide a visual guide to compliment the thorough written instructions provided on Thingiverse. I also perform before and after print tests with my torture test STL.
This is a great set of parts with amazing attention to detail. I think in time this type of approach will become the new standard in modification parts for 3D printers.

That line about super gluing your nuts was regrettable, but I've had a good laugh from all the comments. Some other points: 1. For the Ender 3, I was already running a 5015 blower and earlier Hero Me. The image shown at the end gives a better indication of the type of improvement you'll get from stock to this: imgur.com/a/EfFlS3P 2. One advantage of running twin blowers is running them on low power, which can often be quieter than a single blower on full power. 3. Some comments about this not playing nicely with Ender 5: apparently the files have been tweaked since first release to improve them and there are smaller ducts to prevent fouling the frame. 4. I'm still running a Noctua on the hot end heat sink, it's just black. Still no clogs or creep. It works very well with this system as the air is directed well. Thanks again to Mediaman and ACWest for this great creation!

I have an Ender 3 that's currently all stock. I just bought a BMG, a 26mm pancake stepper, and an e3d v6 to convert to direct drive. Do I need to buy the printermods conversion to use the hero me 5 in a direct drive configuration, or is there a set of files I can use in the hero me 5 zip to perform the conversion without the printermods part?

Hi, i am wondering why did you turn right 4020 fan inside, facing 40mm pre-hotend cooler fan? Doest that reduce fan airflow, cause of air path blockage ? On other note, great that you are further developing that mod :) keep up good job :)

What fortunate timing, I just watched your old duct comparisons since I considered an upgrade (not that it's strictly necessary, I've had surprisingly good experiences with the stock Ender 3 cooling solution) and while the performance doesn't quite blow me away (heh, get it?) and I'll probably stick with stock until I come across the necessity to upgrade, I'll definitely keep this video in mind when the time comes. Thanks a lot in any case for taking the time to walk us through the whole process :)

waiting for ups to deliver my first 3d printer. based off what i seen the ender 3 is a good option for me to get my feet wet on and play around with modifications. i really appreciate your channel as it has practical info without any nonsense fluff added. as i do with all things because i cant help myself as well as enjoy it i also ordered a whole host of parts for it. i got the skr mini e3, dual z kit with the second stepper motor, micro-swiss hotend with direct drive, glass bed, and a few other goodies. i cant wait to start printing and modding!
@TeachingTech

Just make sure you learn the ropes before you start modding, and add one mod at a time. Too many folks rush in without the knowledge to fix any issues introduced. Other than that, enjoy!
@Aspie_Geek_UK
@Aspie_Geek_UK 4 года назад
Also to add to what Michael has just said, set your printer up totally stock for a while until you feel comfortable printing and you have your printer printing to its absolute best. When that is the case, add one mod at a time and leave it for a while whilst tweaking your settings until its printing the best it was again. Also before each new mod, make sure you save all your settings (including firmware if you upgrade your motherboard) so you can always undo the last mod you did and get your printer back to its best again if the mod goes wrong. I learned the hard way that that is a good idea!

@AndrewSoderberg1

The Lightweight ducts that are also part of the Hero Me Gen5 Master Suite that Teaching Tech did not highlight, leave the nozzle completely visible, nothing in front of the hot-end.

@@AndrewSoderberg1 I used and love the hero3 for a while and was great. I ended up switching over to the pets-fang only because of the visibility of the nozzle. Ive been wanting to switch back cuz the fang, although works well, is just too much. If I hd a larger printer I wouldnt mind. But on an ender 3 , is just overkill. So this release was perfect timing... it would have been pretty funny to get done printing the old one, and then see this release lol. But thats awesome they have a more open version. I'll have to check that out. Thx for the heads up!

Excellent video! I've gotten great results out of this duct since installing it with the dual 5015s. It's unfortunate that I just reprinted my Hero Me Gen 3 ducts for the E3 + V6 hotend combo before the V5 was released. Maybe I'll reprint down the line if I end up upgrading to a Dragon or Copperhead hotend with the screw mount rather than the V6 groove mount, but I don't think they have those variants yet (at least for the Dragon, the Copperhead might be usable with the Mosquito mount?).
@AndrewSoderberg1
@AndrewSoderberg1 4 года назад
Thanks for using the Hero Me! The Copperhead has a larger (wider) than expected heat sink. I will be designing a Hero Me Base to support it. It is wider than the Mosquito heat sink (I do have a Hero Me Base for the Mosquito).

I have made one up yesterday and away to install it to today. It’s a great video but I think this new fan shroud is a huge pain to fit. I can’t see me installing another one or any of my other printers. It’s a great system it’s just too much of a pain to install and it does make maintenance on the hotend much more difficult and think I’ll go back to my bullseye. He’s done a huge amount of work on this and I’m grateful but why can’t someone make something that’s easier to install and work on afterwards.

I had the worst problems with underextrusion with my MicroSwiss. Turned out the bowden tube was not cut perfectly straight so it wasn't sitting flush against the heat break. This caused some friction and issues that were looking like heat creep. I noticed that it would catch when I was putting in filament and not easily move all the way down the hotend. Now that I recut the ptfe and made sure it was flush it has been way better. Might be worth checking.

Can you put a link to the tools, heat shrink, etc that is needed? I haven't ever used those things before as I'm just now getting into wiring on my printer.

So with the printermods MDD, wouldn't you actually need base 4 now? I have the MDD 1.2, a microswiss hot end, BLtouch, creality metal extruder (single gear).

I have a CR 10S Pro V1 as you do. I have always struggled to get high quality prints. I make parts for trains and mostly functional parts that are deep inside and not to visible. But now i am making some external parts and the finish is pretty rough. Strings, voids, nerds its a mess. Using PLA. Are there upgrade parts you think may help me turn the corner of this print quality issue or processes I may be missing. I have a Swiss Micro Hot End, and Tiny Machines Firmware, updated Bed sensor (Not BL Touch) Thank You for your videos and knowledge sharing. Dennis in Virginia

Hi Michael, Thank You for this video. I have a ender 3 pro with CR touch running stock firmware. If I go for this mod will I need to go for custom firmware and most importantly will I be able to print ABS? Right now I have sealed the bottom of my stock hot end assembly with alluminium sticker foil to keep the air out from the hot end fan hitting the bed and causing my ABS prints to lift/warp while printing. Your advice would be very helpful because I print PLA+ mostly and have problems with overhangs

I would like to know if this will be an improvement over the stock ender 3 v2 shroud ? Especially because my prints are fairly good and I only print with PLA

Hey, I am looking for my first 3d printer and I was wondering what printer you would recommend for around $400. After speaking with the guys at creality, they said that I can buy the cr-6 se for $450 due to the $399 price, the freight shipping charge, and the wire transfer fee. Should I instead spend the money on an ender 3 v2 and upgrade to make it as good? What printer would you recommend buying for around $400? Thanks, love ur content

I think I have decided on my next printer; I will probably buy a ender 3 (for its ease of modification), and reliability out of the box. I do know that on my list of 'I wants (may not NEED but do want)' is the IDEX for it so I can get an IDEX printer. My question (beyond for you do a review of it, lol), is where the IDEX heads park off to the sides and the cooling can be 'iffy' what would be good fan ducts for this?

Can you do a video on how to change or upgrade fans? A lot of videos mention changing to 5015 blowers but don't go into detail about how to install them

Cut the cables that go to the stockt fan and solder on the new fan. Don't mix red and black wire.

With your experience, I’m really interested to know what filaments you use and where you get them from? I’m about to get the Creality Ender 3 S1 Plus and am trying to find a reputable source for filaments in Oz.

Try out the new Satsana duct. It's compact, one piece, has good airflow, is easier to instal, and looks great.

Just checked it out seems great but you can't adjust the height of the duct. I non stock nozzle that hangs down further.

@@mochmaster45 I was thinking of changing the mounting holes to slots so the whole assembly could slide up and down a few MM. What nozzle do you have and how much additional adjustment would you need?

Have you looked into the hydra duct system? It's given me some luck recently especially with the blt touch mounting position.

The extra visibility around the nozzle on the Hydra looks very good.

i'd really love to use the hero me but my weird not-exacty-clone printer has the wires coming out the LEFT side(plus i'm not sure if it's an exact CR10 clone backplate, thus complicating things)

I'm new to 3D printing and your videos are helping me learn a lot! Can anyone help me out? I just put the Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder combo on my Creality CR-10S, and I'm wondering if this is compatible. If so, what gantry base/adapter do I use? Thanks!

In Hero Me assembly part cooling fan orientation leads to issue where fan disk starts to rattle sooner then later and that sound is very annoying. I prefer Petsfang and Bullseye as in those assemblies part cooling fan axis is rotated and fan disk does not act like a drum while X axis is moving. Sooooo much less noise when X axis is moving. But I use old Ender 3 board with regular drivers. Maybe with trynamic drivers X axis does not drum that fan disk so much?

10s Pro with E3dV6 Clone.... bottoms out on the z motors before the nozzle is even close to the bed... Watched Teaching Techs video, used the configurator for parts selection, went back through the pdf instructions and have all the right parts. The x axis mounts bottom out on the z axis motors before the nozzle is even close to the bed.... any suggestions?
