Is it just me or does Tom King think he is smarter than he is. In his Batman run, he constantly tries to write stories where he is quoting some from the past while not really telling a story in the present. It just seems pretentious and boring.

From what I understand, no characters were ever actually telling Wally he needs to be a symbol of hope. That was just a sentiment that fans had after he came back that Tom King decided to retcon into existence as an in-universe thing for this story.

I really miss my boy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy being his little 10 year old self and to see all that stuff from tomasi and dan jurgans Superman and action comics all gone thanks to bendis garbage really breaks my heart into a million pieces.

Alright. I might be biased and I do agree with everything that was said here about Heroes In Crisis and it is the nail in the coffin of DC Rebirth. But, I'm still gonna read Flash Forward. Scott Lobdell isn't a godsend of a writer and his Teen Titans were horrible. His RHATO during Rebirth was a great read and from the first issue of Flash Forward. I have hope that it is good, even though the whole Multiverse thing feels like Dan DiDio trying to force a story onto this book. Which, he does a lot for no reason.

To be fair, Harley and Batgirl have some "kind" of friendship most of the time.

If you read the Earth 2 books that lead up to Convergence it's a great read focused on minor Earth 2 characters and the bit about how Clark and lois get plucked out of one dimension and placed In another is the basis for why there are so many Clark Kent's and supermans at the onset of action comics rebirth vol 1 etc... If all you read was Convergence and none of the books that relate to it your bound to be disappointed

Can't believe DC hated Wally West that much. Made him disappear for no reason. Bring him back because of popular demand just to make him do something that horrible. Let's just... forget this ever happened 100% -_- (also yeah I did try to read Teen Titans by Lobdell and it was so boring I couldn't keep reading it and I really tried to)

The first mistake they made with this event is having Tom King write it. Events are supposed to be fun with a lot of action. Not pretentious, dull, depressing, and used to deconstruct every single character. Everyone talks as if they are the same person...a 16-year-old cheerleader. It’s so sad to see what’s going on at DC. Bendis and King have ruined DC.

If comic book writers can't be bothered to do any research on mental health then they need to stop writing stories that rely on it. What passes for mental healthcare in this book is frankly insulting. The fact that this story spins releasing footage of therapy sessions as a good thing is disgusting.

That Sanctuary would have been a great setting for a villain like Hugo Strange or Doctor Psycho, manipulating those heroes while they try to recover.

I literally just watched the review on Atop the 4th Wall yesterday. And I agree, it's BAD!

The continuity issues are almost the worst for me because it becomes clear that Tom King didn't care about the DC Universe or how his story actually fit in. Wally didn't know his kids existed until recently in the story. Roy turned to drugs because of Green Arrows neglect, not to beat chronic pain. These characters need to be the core of why this story matters, and they clearly don't.

Say what you will about Convergence, at least those had fun tie in stories with Heroes and characters we hadn't seen in a long time. What the hell does heroes in crisis give us? I mean asides from the good art?

Just now realized Tom King wrote this and not Jeff King. It's insane how the same guy who wrote Vision, and The Omega Men wrote this trash.

I. Hated. This. Series. First of all the entire concept of how Sanctuary did it's thing makes no sense. Like Lagoon Boy getting zapped over and over again. But mostly with the talking heads that are supposed to be talking to an AI (I think). Said AI is supposed to dump everything after each session. So how does it build on work already done? Going into Wally covering what happened up IIRC he went a few days into the future to kill a future version of himself to leave at the scene. While he can go into the past Wally has a thing about it now that he doesn't want to do that lest he create Flashpoint 2.0, though how going back less than an hour to move everyone out of the way of the Speed Force explosion that should happen anyhow can create Flashpoint 2.0 is beyond my reasoning. Then you have little things like Ted Kord's Blue Beetle now being alive like nothing happened, Lois going ahead and publishing the stuff about Sanctuary, and Superman not telling Wonder Woman and Batman about it until it's too late to stop it all goes in that "Tom King writes everyone grossly out of character so don't worry about it" file. Oh, and Lois' spelling problem was something ripped off from Superman The Movie. Only there it was done pretty well and just seemed quirky.

Also I disagree with the Superman take with Wally. He doesn’t shrug it off, he hesitates, saying “Roy… Roy and W-W…” and then “Arsenal and Flash… confirmed”. Superman is actively sad and angry, but he has to mask himself to keep a cool head.

Nitpick, Lois bring a fantastic journalist but a crappy speller is a very, very well established character trait.

this story starts with crows eating the body of Blue Jay, tries to justify showing confidential therapy sessions to the world, has Harly beating the Trinity, flops back and forth between continuities, kills off characters with a shrug and a "who cares", and ends with the complete character assassination of Wally West. It's truly the worst.

I blame Thawne for causing Wally to do all this cause it’s revealed he manipulated Wally into doing so

You should do "How Robert Vindetti ruined Green Lantern". Geoff Johns set up this massive toybox the would have fed writers with stories for years to come, and Vindetti comes along, and IMMEDIATELY kills it. He destroys all of it. And it seems like nobody cares.

see i really enjoy the new 52 harley quinn but thats because i felt like the abusive relationship aspect was focused on too much so to see her having fun being dc's deadpool was a nice break but i dont think we need to stick to this depiction for the rest of the charaters line

Gnnark was one of the original titans members, the big roles that he before HIC was Titans Hunt where the titans members of the original 60s-70s run regain their memories of being the original teen titans and had to stop a demon named Mister Twister. He was also in one of the final arc of Titans Rebirth where the titans along with him and The Herald(Mal Duncan), and even Kid Flash(Wallace West), battled Troia, the evil future version of Donna Troy

Thank you for reviewing this, it saved me buying this. I was actually reading Flash at the time and when I read that Wally died I was fucking furious I couldn’t believe DC killed off one of the most popular and beloved characters. Thank god for Joshua Williamson for cleaning up after and fixing Tom King’s shit.

The best part here is where you pitched that The New 52 is better than Rebirth. I'm sorry, man...I can't really agree with that. The Tomasi/Jensen/Venditti runs on Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps was what really got me back into cosmic level stories. Especially Venditti's "Renegade" run. New 52 was the first time since the 1980s that DC was willing to integrate characters it had bought from other companies, just like it had done with Blue Beetle and The Question. We had Grifter and Midnighter in solo books, Stormwatch and Team 7 in team books (though heavily modified for the DCU), and the destruction of the New 52 was what ended up pulling characters like Apollo, Ladytron, Gen13, Midnighter, the Daemonites, Helspont, and Majestic out of DC continuity. I think that was to the detriment of the storytelling capability of the writers.

To be fair, the Rebirth/New 52 versions of the trinity(and some of the other heroes) are just shadows of what they were before

It’s sad because Tom King can write an amazing comic. His Mister Miracle run was absolutely amazing and works super well as a focus on mental health. Sheriff of Babylon is a really heartfelt and sad war story. Human Target is a Tom King improvement on the murder-mystery format. Strange Adventures is an amazing view of a man split in two and how he has to reckon with that. It just seems that when Tom King is given the reigns to the main DC universe with Heroes in Crisis and his Batman run (except for War of Jokes and Riddles which I really enjoy) he gets too in his head and overcomplicates everything.

Why do they make stores like this? Laziness? Ineptitude, apathy?

What the fuck is wrong with these people. We had great stories. We had a good Titans book again, we had a good Detective Comics and Action Comics series. People were giving DC so many props and in 2 years I took a break from comics DC self destructed because whenever stuff is working they have to ruin it.

Yeah i gotta agree. Like half of DC's titles just went to shit after this event, only around Death Metal did they finally get it together and started trying to fix their stuff. Sure, there were exceptioms. Flash Forward, JLD, JLO, etc. But as a whole this was just a very bland era at best, and very disappointing at worst

Maybe it was before your time, but the worst event, that started everything on this downhill slump was when Hal Jordan went insane and became Parallax. Granted it is no longer in continuity, but still that event and subsequent revisionism lead us to Heroes in Crisis. And I feel comic book writers don't show enough respect to what has gone before.

This a mess of story telling. Why did the trinity show up to get one crazy woman in a clown suit? Why wonderwoman stand there while harley got away? She doesnt have a weakness like superman does and she should have been able to go after and also once she got more than 10ft from superman he should have been fine and able to spot her more a mile away, which wouldnt be the case since she jumped out of a window/hole in the wall why did they simply give up persuit?

This definitely isn't an event: all it is is just a bunch of characters getting killed killed off for no reason, and all the other characters still around getting their characters assassinated by stupid fucking writing.

So while the speed force is something that speeders TAP INTO and not something that’s inside speeders so Wally West nuking everything makes no sense the even MORE bullshit thing is at one point Bart Allen did absorb the speed force inside him and he never nuked everyone (as far as I know, I zoned out for most of Bart Allen’s run as the Flash cause it sucked)! So even when that’s how the speed force works that’s still not how it works!

You think Heroes In Crisis is the worst comic event? Countdown To Final Crisis and Amazons Attack could both probably give it a run for it’s money in terms of sheer awfulness. Also, one of the reasons why Harley was paired with Batgirl was due to editorial mandate that said that Tom King HAD to use Batgirl, Booster, Harley, Blue Beetle and Wally West in the story. DC executives interfered a lot in the writing process of Heroes In Crisis, and boy does it show. Sure, they’re all acting out-of-character, but it’s not completely Tom King’s fault. He wrote them that way under orders from DC executives.
