First quest first turn.... Hey wizard, can I borrow your dagger?
@HeroQuestFans
@HeroQuestFans Год назад
yeah big discussion about this on the HeroQuestFans discord. so bandolier is a piece of equipment that doubles as both a toolkit and automatically has one dagger in it. it's vague, but I'm taking to mean he also has a spare dagger weapon (let's say if the bandolier would be stolen, his one dagger would remain behind). toolkits have 50% disarm ability for traps. I am assuming his skills are passive and situation based, not counting as actions. otherwise he couldn't play the card and then attack until the next turn. and yes, they stack. he's not limited in his equipment (except only being able to wear bracers for armor) so he could acquire and use other weapons too. would magical throwing dagger be usable as a dagger or would the bandolier's "built in" dagger always take its place? you as Zargon, get to decide...

Ambidextrous DOESN'T peak after you get a short sword... it peaks if you obtain Orc's Bane, which is described as being a short sword. :)

@ChuckBarchuk Год назад
So would Ambidexterity stack with Opportunistic Striker? So say the Rogue has a Short Sword & Dagger. Would the Rogue get to roll 3 combat dice when attacking a monster that's adjacent to another hero and then follow it up with a dagger attack?
@Viktor14_

Yes, it looks like it. The rogue could do a combo of 3D attack followed by a 2D attack against a monster adjacent to another hero.

@OdinSpack
@OdinSpack Год назад
I would imagine the skills stack, hopefully we get a rule clarification. I think an easy to overlook thing is attack isn't just melee, it's thrown too. So your barbarian can be next to a monster, and the rogue can throw two daggers for 2 dice then 1 unblockable die (with Frozen Horror two attack rules). If this isn't the case, they might as well buy a crossbow. Looks like an interesting character regardless!
@raybordier4798
@raybordier4798 Год назад
There is a twitter response from Zargon that answers the multi attack question for heroes attacking monsters stating that monsters also get only 1 defense per attacker per turn. So an orcs bane/dagger combo on rogue could do 3 attacks if attacking an orc with the shortsword. And the ability cards are almost definitely static effects.
@Darwyn4321
@Darwyn4321 Год назад
You know I figured the Rogue would have the same ability as the Dwarf when it came to disarming traps - you know, instead of rolling a white shield or black shield to disarm it, he'd just have to roll anything but a black shield. What do you think of house ruling that? Do you think that'd make the Rogue too powerful?
@GoldenSunAlex
@GoldenSunAlex Год назад
Yes. That's a special ability unique to the Dwarf. If you take that route, while you're at it, why not let them Elf take 9 spells like the Wizard?
@Darwyn4321
@Darwyn4321 Год назад
@@GoldenSunAlex Because the elf can use any armor or weapon. The wizard can't. The dwarf can wear metal armor. The rogue can't. I don't see how house ruling the rogue having the dwarf's trap ability would disrupt game balance.
@GoldenSunAlex
@GoldenSunAlex Год назад
@@Darwyn4321 Because the super-trap disarm is literally the ONLY special ability the Dwarf has. There is basically no reason to play as a Dwarf if you house-rule the rouge to be better.
@Darwyn4321
@Darwyn4321 Год назад
@@GoldenSunAlex That's not a valid critique. There's no reason to play a barbarian if you have the Knight Commander. The rogue is an optional hero. So is the Knight.
@GoldenSunAlex

@@Darwyn4321 Barbarian can hit a LOT harder than the knight - remember, the Knight basically can't use two-handed weapons. (He also gets a ton of exclusive stuff in frozen horror).

First card I think it is a passive active that’s on all the time I do think he will need two daggers as it’s ambidextrous use of both hands So when he starts with one dagger he can’t do the second attack until he acquires a short sword or second dagger I also think the monsters get the chance to block every attack made at them So if he attacks an abomination it’s max three dice to attack total against the six defence total of the abomination Second card is passive active as well It’s just he looses daggers until he buys the bandolier it looks like And can only throw at monsters not adjacent Is move through monsters one use? If not that’ll probably be a passive active too By the way I already have my players do this stuff cause I wanted to speed the flow of the game up and encourage the use and purchase of throwing weapons So in my game players per turn could Move Free action open doors Search Primary action with main weapon Secondary action drink potion cast spell attempt disarm trap and use a throwing weapon So in my games the rouge is a little redundant
@lucarocks7866
@lucarocks7866 Год назад
Wow this might change the game, especially the base quests. I mean you can have the Rogue just run in and out of rooms throwing daggers and hoping to get a good roll. He has the potential to clear out two or more rooms by himself. Reinforces my belief that Orcs need to be 2 or more body points. And also that we need cards for the Barbarian and Dwarf. Heroclix started with character specific ability cards which pretty much nerfed characters you already bought. Many dropped out when they started doing this. Maybe AH could release a dwarf or barbarian 2 pack and give them cards that any Barbarian or Dwarf can use. This way they can stay viable.
@AmalgamAsh
@AmalgamAsh Год назад
They're viable to me - the Rogue can hit a lot, but not powerfully. An orc can block the initial attack, if it does even indeed land!

@@AmalgamAsh I may be wrong, but I don't believe there is a rule, as the rogue is the first to have ability cards. The rulebook only states rules for 6 hero actions. The Rogue's abilities are not spells, so I would treat them as passive and not defined to be used up in action economy.
@AmalgamAsh
@AmalgamAsh Год назад
I interpret the intent as the same, but I really want that clarification from AH. The back of the character card might clarify. All passive would make an amazing character.

The Knight cards are referred to as Knight Skills. There all used in response to things Zargon does so they don't work like your typical spell cards found on the Elf, Wizard, Bard, Druid, & Warlock. Perhaps the Rouge will be similar to the Knight in that aspect in some way?
@nblack3879
@nblack3879 Год назад
There is a lot of ambiguous text on the Rogue's cards. As I stated on hqf discord, Ambidextrous does NOT specifically state that a shortsword or dagger must be equipped in each hand. I don't think that was the intention, but as written, you could do two attacks with one dagger, plus a third attack with Opportunistic strike.
@AmalgamAsh
@AmalgamAsh Год назад
Agreed on one dagger being fine for making two attacks, and agreed on stacking buffs and allowing third attack. It just clicks with me. I am currently talking out use cases and hoping we get more specifics from AH.
@AmalgamAsh
@AmalgamAsh Год назад
AH confirmed they are all passive!
@mafuletrekkie
@mafuletrekkie Год назад
At the start of the game Zargon needs to make a decision with the player, can Ambedextrious be used with only one Dagger equipped? The intention of the card, at least to my eyes, seems to be that it cannot unless the Bandolier is indeed starting equipment and also counts as having a Dagger. Rules as written however I can't see anything that would prevent the Rogue from using a single dagger to make both attacks but I think I will rule against this as Zargon at the table. I would probably rule that Ambedextrious would require two discrete weapon cards, either two dagger cards or a dagger and short sword card, just to give the Rogue more room for the player to power up and that the Bandolier is only for ranged attacks with a "dagger". What I can say for certain is that this hero pack is far more open to interpretation than any of the other hero abilities and probably could have used some clearer rewording from the developers. I'm doing some back-of-the-napkin math and it looks like if you go for a ruling that says that the rogue can only use their abilities after they have spent a turn activating them as opposed to it being a constant effect on their damage, while higher at the start that the other heroes, drops off extremely quickly. In a fight it takes around 6 to 9 turns to kill two mummies with a short sword/dagger combo. If you use a constant effect ruling they can kill two mummies every three turns on average. In either case, the rogue is doing more damage than the other heroes at the start but the question for Zargon becomes if you want the rogue to hit end-game damage far before the other heroes, or get to a point where he does good midgame damage rather quickly but NEVER progresses past that point. I might write a program this afternoon to crunch the numbers more accurately. Depending on how the numbers crunch down if I decide to go your way of making them have to be activated I think I will add a house rule that these abilities only refresh when Zargon ends their turn and there is no monster in the rogue's line of sight to cut down on the annoyance of the elf asking people to wait for multiple turns before entering a room to "buff up".
@AmalgamAsh
@AmalgamAsh Год назад
AH did confirm that these abilities are passive and can be used every turn. Played conservatively and later using technicalities in regards to weaponry (by using later magic shortsword), the Rogue is pretty useful. Just keep him away from attacks!

Sounds like this expansion is going to have its own rule set or at least should. I've seen the abilities as actual attacks so one per turn and this removes the stacking chances if you go with the idea you have to renew the use every turn. The infinite dagger does not impress me one bit and the bandelior should qualify as an artifact card. I did order this character but I would probably nerf it. I have always wondered about the no metal armor bit. I know this would discount plate and chain mail but would it also remove the helmet since it is partially metal. You take this against an elf archer from the elf pack and the archer would make this character a pin cushion before dying.
@AmalgamAsh

@@AmalgamAsh So the if it can do 4 BP per turn, it is basically the battle axe without the cost of one. Yeah, definitely redoing this character especially their fancy tool kit. This may have been one that should have beta tested and then reworked before release. Might as well let any spell caster cast two spells regardless of equipment.
@AmalgamAsh

Maybe having a battle axe would be more advantageous - there are defend rolls to consider! And against the first black shield rolled, a 1cd dagger isn't going to cut it....literally and figuratively!
@AerynBella
@AerynBella Год назад
@@jasonsumma1530 They can't do 4BP per turn, but UP TO a maximum of 4 BP. You have to take into account the probability of rolling 3 skulls with a shortsword (which they don't start with) using Opportunistic Striker which means the monster they're attacking has to be next to another hero (no use in a solo quest). And then factor in the target's defense roll. A goblin may have a 17% chance to defend 1 skull, but all the other monsters have decent chances to defend 1 or 2 skulls. Even Zombies, Mummies, and Dread Warriors (etc.) have a chance to defend all 3 skulls. Then you have to take into account a 50/50 chance for rolling a skull on the second Ambidextrous attack. Although, now I wonder if they can equip a second shortsword in the other hand, or does it have to be a dagger? I should reread the card. (No. 2nd attack has to be a dagger.)
