Lord-IVD here. Sure back in the early 2000's the Heroscape master set Rise of the Valkyrie was only $40 and came with a lot , but at that time $40 was a lot too. and the booster packs were $12 for about 8 figures per 1/4 of a wave that my collection required me to buy 3 of each so i would spend $145.00 every expansion sometimes more depending on what units I liked ( Needed 8 sets of Deathreavers spent $100 or rats!!) I was not rich , hell I'm mostly blind and money is tight now too . But let me say this: I just pre ordered $ 680.00 for 1 full set of painted everything , only 1 Tree set at $50 ( I have 7 sets of the old tress) 1 painted Battle Box and one Painted MasterSet then 2 unpainted Battle boxes and 2 unpainted MasterSets I AM HAPPY to support having this game back in production. And yes used your code brother ! I do not feel I am over paying for what we are getting . While this game has been out of print a lot of us have spent just as much or more buying figures to make custom figures with. I have around 300 or more Heroclix and when Age of A failed in the Haslab I bought $100 worth of Xenomorph miniatures off Etsy as well as other whole gams just for the minis like AVP, Ratchet Wars, and the Big Trouble in Little China box game. If you like these kinds of games you pay the price and figure out where and how to store all the stuff and you are happy to do so. I have spent thousands of dollars on Heroscape and have more than gotten my moneys worth out of my plastic. Last thing ,since I would normally custom paint my duplicates this way I do not have to paint over a $100 paint job whew lol.

Thanks for being one of the few youtubers to speak up about the prepainted pricing being a good deal. I collect and paint warhammer figures and I can tell you that it's extremely expensive for material costs and time. Assuming the miniatures look as good as the paint quality they've shown off so for this reveal, $225 is a great deal for all painted minis.
@gregoryrowland6350

I agree. The cost of prepaints and even unpainted has skyrocketed since I was a kid. I've collected a lot of minis over the years. I get unpainted to do myself, but I also like buying prepaints for RPGs and stuff. It's not an unfair price if I compare it to the market I'm pretty familiar with. And it's part of a real fun game system. Do I love how expensive the hobby is? No. But I think this is perfectly fair for a painted set and game that has a lot of material. I'm actually pleased it isn't more expensive.

I love how people Compare Pricing to ROTV. Instead of BFTU the last master set released. Or even Marvel Master set. Compare the Battle box to Marvel! and are we really over paying? Come on People come to reality! People need to STOP and just take a minute and think that 2004 versus 2024 and forget the original set exist! Pretend Heroscape is a new game and we are getting this offer at the prices they are offering and then decide if you think it’s worth the cost!

Thanks for your review, Sir Heroscape! I was really impressed with your coverage of the Avalon Hill stuff (both during & after) and it’s refreshing to hear your level-headedness here as well. ❤️ I’m right there with you on the pricing - prepainted figures for $5 each is a bargain! There’s no way I could hire someone locally to do the same for less. I’m not expecting the moon when it comes to quality, mind you. Anything within the RotV or D&D ballpark is entirely acceptable to me. Just as long as it’s not the ugly neon plastic AoA originally pitched us. 🙃 Besides, we can’t ignore the fact that we’ve all been paying more for less on eBay for Heroscape over the years..! I’m certainly guilty, at least haha. I wonder if Renegade will support game stores in Canada or not? I should talk to my local place about this because I’d love to be able to participate in games here if it’s possible. I also might be one of the few folks excited about new scenarios to try out on my own each month, haha - I used to play those scenarios in the master sets all the time back in the day. You’re right to say that not everyone who plays this game or is passionate about it is also a competitive player. 👍 Thanks for the video! Looking forward to seeing what comes next. 😊

Love your content Sir H! Keep it up man. Just gotta share my opinion. Price point excludes an entire group of players. I was 11 or 12 when I started getting heroscape for my birthday and Xmas. My parents could afford a $40 set here and there. Parents aren’t going to drop that much on a game. New players aren’t going to see that in the shelf and buy it. We shouldn’t have to “convince ourselves this is a good deal.” I was excited for another master set as I’ve taught of 50 players how to play heroscape. This is their chance to get into the game again! Well non of them will spend that much. Even those with most of the original collection don’t want to spend that much for unpainted. Yes we can talk quality but I don’t need gold plated figures. (Premium paint.) I want to grow my collection of a game I love without spending my whole paycheck on it…soo happy it’s back. I’ll buy it. Just hurts a lot and that’s not how I shouldn’t feel when buying it.
@SirHeroscape
@SirHeroscape 7 месяцев назад
It’s not easy to purchase…agreed. My only counter argument is that it’s still better than spending “scalper prices” on eBay for the old stuff. Additionally, I’m not sure we’re in an economy that can afford a cheaper product with the same quality. The Heroscape community has also shifted from young kids playing with their dads (look at the old TV commercials) to a legitimate Hobby and competitive Tabletop game. Now, I still play with my kid…but the audience has evolved for the game and so I see the quality and price point of the product reflected in that as well.

1. I don’t feel using “premium” paint was necessary. How much better can it look compared to the standard paint that would’ve decreased the cost. The original figure paint jobs are not amazing, but they are very good and that is fine and makes it more affordable. 2. My main disappointment is the lack of historical units. Why couldn’t the pirates be classic 1800s pirates instead of the space pirates from different worlds? It just seems weird. They went all out on fantasy and not on any history figures that make the game so interesting to me. Why not balance it like traditional heroscape did?

Thanks for giving Renegade a fair shake, from the few reviews I’ve watched only Ryguy gave it a terrible review which honestly sounds like it stems more from being booted from play testing than anything else, while the other reviews that had something negative to say was mostly about the price and the fact that they cut content from Avalons original master set but besides that they gave it good reviews. So honestly only really one negative review so far that I’ve seen. HEROSCAPE MUST LIVE!

As a long time model painter I agree it’s a reasonable price as long as the models have a decent tabletop standard. I’ll buy unpainted myself cause I enjoy the process. Not crazy about the cards, but I already graphic designed my own cards anyway so I’ll probably do the same with the new “official” ones

I dropped out of heroscape after wave 1 was impossible to get (thanks hasbro packaging!) but I really love the game so I am now getting back into it. I also think the price is very fair. they said there were over 1000 paint ops, which ive heard other content creators gloss over, but those paint ops are how Renegade gets charged for having the paint job done. 5 dollars per figure is very fair, especially considering some of those figures are quite large. personally I will be getting unpainted, both because of the price and because I enjoy painting. but the price is very fair.

As far as the cards go, I like the renditions of the characters rather than pictures of the minis. I'm not the biggest fan of how the painted preview minis look, so between those and the direction they went, I'd much rather have the digital paintings. I do agree that the cards are really plain though, the old ones had a nice weathering on them, and then SotM brought the foliage on top of it, you'd think a new chapter titled "Age of Annihilation" would have that weathering from before or something a little more gritty than just solid colors and shapes.

Love the coverage! I am positively surprised by what I saw in the livestream! Renegade has done a good job overall! One thing that I felt while going through the new heroes is a potential power creep in some of the characters' breadth of abilities to point cost, e.g. Ewashia, Master of Tides. I mostly agree this was a good presentation and there’s a lot to be excited about for the future of the game and what’s potentially coming down the line with future waves and the organized play scene. Your point about the tree sets you make selling for $50 I actually see as a counterpoint to them charging the same. You’re doing custom built sets on a small scale, while they’re mass producing sets on what I would assume is a relatively large scale. And when you compare the $45 price point for a battle box that includes two trees along with 6 figures, terrain, and other components, the $50 price point seems high. Take out all the figures, components, and terrain, add in 1 tree and 6 bushes and charge $5 more? I think $50 for the jungle set would be reasonable if it included a unit like the old one did, but I get why they didn’t do that this time around. As for the paint issue. I agree it’s a reasonable up charge for the labor, I’m just not thrilled with the result. I’m no master painter, but these look basic to me. And maybe that’s what $100 gets you, but hopefully they’ll look better in real life than they do with the concept images. They don’t even appear to have a wash finish to give that extra bit of texture that the OG figures all had. But again I’ll reserve judgement for the final product, maybe it will come out looking premium in real life. Appreciate your content and all you do to support the game.

Am I correct that the Hasbro funding campaign that failed offered 71 minis, 151 terrain for $250. And this campaign is 26 minis with less terrain for $225? So of the top it's minus 45 minus for $25.00 price difference. Sorry if I'm way off, I was looking at the two options earlier today trying to decide if I wanted to pre-order this or not and that's what I think I saw.

@rgsniper2
@rgsniper2 6 месяцев назад
@@SirHeroscape The 225 I mentioned was for the master set and two expansions. At that price they are not painted of course. If you are just referring to the master set at $225 then it's only 20 minis painted correct? That's a lot of difference when going from 71 to 20 minis (painted or not), especially when I enjoy painting and do a far better job. Regardless, thanks for the answers as I'm still making up my mind. But I do have to be honest and say it appears to be a far far worse value.

Great coverage as always. I feel the battle box pricing is fair for both versions, but the jump seems a bit high on the master set between the two. I completely follow your reasoning, however, a $200 price point I feel would help them sell more overall sets to newcomers and veterans alike. I will likely pick up the Battle Box and Master set painted editions, but not the terrain set, only because I have plenty of terrain as it is (as I'm sure many of us do) and it doesn't have any figure(s). If it came with one, I would have probably gotten it then. Either way, I'm excited for more Heroscape!

As a miniature painter, I might be willing to do it for $100 if it was for a friend or close family member. Doing it for a stranger would be crazy. It takes about 3 hours to paint one figure (if you include cleaning, priming, painting, and varnishing). That’s like being paid $1.60 an hour for 60 hours.
@convicsik
@convicsik 7 месяцев назад
@@WideMouth 100% agree. If painting even at a basic level was quick and easy, I wouldn't have a pile of shame staring at me everytime I walk past my mini shelf. I have an airbrush and cabinet full of army painter paints and citadel contrast paints, but for me, knowing I can just open the box and play right away, $100 is more than worth the time saved, and I can always hit them with a clear varnish and add details later if I feel like.

Looking at the cards and design changes, offering some thoughts: - I think the removal of the sort of 'spike' the borders have on the older cards makes the name/general section look a bit too open and empty, and it removes framing for the card art. I kind of think that might be the ""worst"" change in the card design. - The left side bar on the cards is centered and the separators are removed, and that also makes the sidebar feel way more empty. Less of a big deal, but it bothers me personally. - The shrinking of the stats in the bottom right actually is fine to me, since it seems like they want to free up more space on the card for more complex abilities. I respect it. I don't dislike the digital art renditions of the figures myself, THOUGH I'll say it does feel a bit strange that they wouldn't want to use actual pictures of the painted figures when the painted figures are so much higher-quality. The digital art versions made more sense for the haslab release, when the figures were all unpainted at base. But personally, I'd want to show off more of the new paint work being put into the figures. My only real concern with digital art over pictures of the models would be that we might get some strange situation that leads to confusion with the hit zones and line of sight as depicted on the cards. All that aside, framing the price point as $5 per fully painted figure sure does put it into new perspective. I'm hoping for a good year for heroscape coming from this.

Organized play has a lot of potential. I do want organized play, but I'm not sure about their execution. They require that Tournament Organizers, and Judges, do not play in their own tournament. This makes sense at large scale tournaments, but for smaller ones, anyone knowledgeable enough to be judging a tournament is likely someone who is there because they want to play Heroscape. This is going prevent a lot of official tournaments from ever happening, because the those who would be willing to be organizers, would rather run a tournament where they get to play. I think they need to walk that part back.

As a long-time hardcore Heroscape fan, I am concerned about pricing over anything else. Yes, lower volume and inflation has it's impact, but I think it will unravel the series unfortunately. The strength of the game when it originally came out was simplicity with depth, visual grandeur and value. You could get each wave of figures for $40 and allowed you to get multiple common squads to fill out your armies pretty inexpensively. Now, unless you have VERY deep pockets, the average joe or jane will not be able to afford more than one or two expansions. People will be frustrated when they want a second or third common squad and simply don't have the money for it. The fact that there are no figure-only expansions will make this only worse. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see this going far beyond the initial waves.
