In this episode of the MUNCHIES Guide to Sweden, Ivar heads to Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, to learn more about the day-to-day diets of urban Swedes. He visits a food hall for a traditional Swedish lunch, then takes fika to prepare for his big night out. Finally, Ivar hits Aifur, Sweden’s only real Viking restaurant, and meets its owner and dance music legend E-Type to discover how the Vikings informed today’s Swedish cuisine.

I can vouch for Aifur. Everyone who visits Stockholm should go there, be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time as it is a very popular place due to the niche that it fills. The food is excellent, the drink is great and the atmosphere is fucking sick

I was once in Sweden visiting family. After some days they took me to a relative I hadn't seen in ages. When we got there my relative and his wife asked about what I had been doing in Sweden and if I enjoyed myself. I told them about how we had fika and how much I loved it... the problem was that I forgot how to say fika and by accident I said frita which I guess means pussy in Swedish slang. It made for a very awkward and hilarious first encounter.

+WessCNY Not at all :) This is largely about hipster food rather than swedish food. We usually eat more "normal stuff" (with a few exceptions), sitting at a normal dinner table. The traditional Swedish _husmanskost_ also have many things in common with other European cousines, such as the French, German, and Austrian.
@tastychiken
@tastychiken 7 лет назад
Some of these foods are pretty common though. I regularly eat "strömmingsflundra" for lunch. I see co-workers eating kåldolmar atleast once a week. It's not everyday food but it's definitely eaten regularly! Also I'd say falukorv and pyttipanna are pretty common. The foods mentioned in this part is pretty spot on (except for the viking stuff) imo.

@Mello Grdd Sure and they told you this? No one know anything about the vikings in America, all they know is that they have found viking settlements over there. All the rest is a guessing game. Kinda strange though that these so called true history books teaches out that columbus discovered it. For you americans that celebrate columbus day, you really want to know what kind of person he was? He threw people do hungry dogs for his amusement. He cut of peoples arms and legs just for fun. He killed and mutilated over 200.000 people in south america. He was a major seller of kids for sextrade. He was one big pedophile that destroyed the lives of so many kids in pure tourture. And yes that is documented, but is it being learned out to the public? NO its not. Think of that next time you want to celebrate that holliday.

If you are going to Stockholm enjoy the hybrid of urban and nature in Skansen and visit Vasamuset and Nordiska Museet the same day if you are into history. Gamla Stan (old city) is a great place with tons of small shops, cafés and restaurants. But beware of tourist traps. Close by is the royal castle with exhibitions and those old time marching guards. Stockholms food scene is ever changing so there's probably something new and exciting then. But you won't go wrong with the classics shown in this series. There are also several breweries offering guided tours. The archipelago of Stockholm is beautiful in summer, I think there are small cruises going around. If you get the chance find a beach and enjoy the sights and waters. Also if it's in the summer and you wanna witness a weird cultural phenomenon go to "allsång på skansen", sing-along with a large crowd. The most outward you'll ever find swedes.
