You tell Me which one ISN'T my favourite track... Right.. the whole album is just a perfect 10! My absolute favourite of their's. So glad you enjoy it in full!
Listen to Folklore by them on Heritage album if you want to hear some bass solo. I recommend the live version in Sydney where mikeal introduces the band with his comedic speech
You can go a bit offbeat and listen 2 unique gems hidden amidst much acclaimed Opeth songs in much acclaimed Opeth Albums 1. Isolation Years - Ghost Reveries 2. Dirge of November - Blackwater Park And then you can go for Sorceress title track to listen its gun live version from red rocks & Demon of the fall live from their old live DVD
Probably my favorite Opeth Album - gold from start to finish. Don’t forget Derelict Herds (bonus track). And Den Standiga Resan - you will be shocked as it sounds like nothing else they have done…
@@floridabelle hi, darling! I just wanted to recommend the band I found a few days ago. I just can’t get enough of their music. I’m sure you’ll dig it! Maybe you know them already. Shylmogoghnar. Incredible music and amazing lyrics.
I don't know if anyone has recommended this yet, but Mikael recently released a soundtrack that he did for a Netflix show, "Clark". Only a few songs with vocals, "Lost in San Marino", "Måndag i Stockholm", "Battle For Love", and "Vielleicht Später". You could react to all four of those in the time it takes for one Opeth song. Hoo boy does he show off some range...
Awesome choice! Thx for posting! (Still hoping for "Bacchus" or "Haunted" by Type-O at some point but of course that's your call so I'm on board yay or nay) Cheers!
This is such a great deeper cut if there even is such a thing...haha You HAVE to go watch the live version of this from their Sydney 2011 show. Its primo👌 Keyboard guy (Joakim Svalberg) all over it.
This sounds like it belongs on a movie soundtrack. I really liked it a lot. I have to reserve "love" for what I truly love. Lol! Have a great weekend. : )
Ah-hah! I see they got you with the bonus 2 tracks! IIRC, they are both covers - one of a Robin Trower song, and one a Swedish folks song. Both are excellent. :)
We expected Newpeth to sound about like this song, but they went on a different direction on Heritage. Btw good Opeth bonus tracks are on BWP and Heritage, plus Soldier of Fortune off GR
Yeah, my problem with Newpeth is not the absence of growling (although I really missed them) but the songs have lost the power that made Opeth great. There are lots of songs without growls that are awesome (Burden, To Bid You Farewell, Face of Melinda just to name three) but none of the songs that they made from Heritage onwards are even close to those three, Nevertheless, I still love them and they still are my favourite band
@@fancotasargentina8165 the real problem I have with Newpeth is guitar tone. There are good tunes scattered in the new albums, but they did away with that fantastic distortion, clear yet so fat and heavy. I mean, this song could be on Heritage, and have half the weight and punch purely from the production. Here, the first 30 seconds rip!
@@stefanovitali2925 I didn’t *love* how clean they sounded at first on Heritage but their playing is so tight and defined it kinda feels like they’re just showing off during some of the solos. They hit you with like this bright jazzy tone instead of the “screaming demon” style distortion with the endless sustain that they used to go for, so you can tell they’re really playing everything perfectly.
They like to add left-over tracks onto the special editions. for the most part the tracks are usually meh, except for the Blackwater Park ones. They are absolutely stellar and you SHOULD listen to them at some point!
The best bonus track from Opeth is the cover of Deep Purple`s 'Soldier of Fortune'. You should listen to it Lauren, it is a beautiful song and Mikael sings like an angel on that one
"It doesn`t follow a predictable pattern". Yeah, that´s Opeth in a nutshell. Gotta say, i always beleive Morningrise was my favourite album, but seeing your reactions made me look Watershed in a new light, and now it is right in the same spot. Porcelain Heart, The Peel, Heir Apparent, The Lotus Eater....BURDEN! Sheesh, this album is a perfect 10
Yes there are bonus tracks on Watershed. This album on first listen I didn't like very much cuz I missed Martin Lopez on drums. Axe is good but he's more of a straight ahead Metal Drummer, Lopez had that Latin flair which was evident in Ghost Reveries (my 2nd all time Favorite Opeth album.) But with time comes nuance, Watershed has moved up to my 3rd position behind BWP and Ghost Reveries. It's a fantastic album. So well sung and growled by Mikael. Unfortunately it was Opeth's last truly great album. Then they became Jethro Tull. Sad. But still my fav band. Another good reaction Lauren.
I'm a huge Opeth and Tull fan, and they definitely did not become Tull...aside from "Will o the Wisp". I know this because I've intended to Heritage thru ICV a gazillion times.
Watershed is great. It was actually the last Opeth album I fully immersed myself in. After that they went on a new path and I couldnt get classic Opeth out of my system, so I stopped listening to all of their new stuff. 1)Blackwater Park 2)Still Life 3)Deliverance (and Damnation....they were basically recorded together) 4)Ghost Reveries 5)My Arms Your Hearse 6)Watershed 7)Morningrise 8)Orchid. Again, I have never really listened to their stuff after Watershed.
You really have too. As much as I love the old stuff, newpeth is absolutely phenomenal. More elaborate songwriting, better singing voice and lots more.
@@colinclark1981 They’re definitely really good and a natural progression for opeth but I’d be lying if I said that I listened to them as often as I used to listen to the old stuff
Wait, that's not it, there are (I think) 2 more bonus tracks on that record! :D Derelict Herds and a cover of Bridge of Sighs. Now you are obligated to do them :P EDIT: I should have watched til end before saying this lol
Its funny that people from nowhere, who definitely not know bands like Opeth, just try to find out what is this music about. The main problem for such opinion makers is whether the voice is male or female, or whether there is a word 'demon' in the lyrics. Its pathetic, really.
I used to see your videos, but then I realized that you never responded to the many cheerful and funny comments that a reactor I love made you in the videos, despite having more subscribers, it did a lot of publicity and it was very nice, but I didn't liked your behavior, so I will never watch your videos again
Up 👆!.. I noticed too that Giacomo James was often here , with many kind comments and never an answer , maybe she is just jealous , when he is so king . I Don’t think reactors are rivals , so i think the same
@Pape Mandingo, @Obafemi Kipruto, @Black Mistress: Sorry I have not responded in what you feel is a timely manner. Though not much of one, I do have a life outside of RU-vid and I'm currently trying not to drown. I try to respond to comments when I first post a video, but comments tend to pile up pretty fast. When I can, I try to go back and respond to some. I currently have 2374 unread comments. So I'm sorry if you feel I have ignored or glossed over people. I'm doing the best I can, but to be frank, life is kicking my ass lately to the point where I'm wondering if I'll even be able to keep making videos at all. It's nothing personal. It's not about jealousy. I'm not intentionally being rude. I'm just trying to survive a very challenging time in my life without having a nervous breakdown. I don't watch other reaction channels outside of Key of Geebz, so I don't know Giacomo James. But once I get to those comments, I'll apologize to him too. Sorry I'm such a failure. I hope you all are having a much better day than I am.
In relation to Mikael Akerfeldt commenting on himself not being a good singer --- He has always strived to sound like those over the top vibrato dudes.. Example would be DIO. That's why after this album in particular he abandoned the singing style we all loved for a more 80's metal style. Which IMO just completely ruined his unique cleans. Sure they are still good, but not Opeth good if that makes sense.
Vibrato is a natural technique that all great singers use....he never had it until around BWP or so, but even then it was still developing. By GR he had mastered his cleans and now he is outrageously great.
