This is the video I needed and was looking for as a musical artist, I wasn't hearing any one talking about this sync world from this angle. Thank you!

great advice, thanks for sharing! 👍... I started performing 30 years ago, did that for about 10 to 15yrs, realized I only liked writing and recording... then life flew by... dabbled in sync research about 5 or 6yrs ago, dove head first into it almost 2yrs now.... long road indeed

Hi Marlon, You are too right about the long wait in this industry. I signed with a library in Spain. Nothing in over a year and I am thinking of doing more research as my songs are English Reggaeton Pop mostly. This requires patience and more networking/research.

Just found your channel Props, I appreciate you sharing your info. I am a multi instrumentalist, sound engineer, and songwriter. 30+ years of cassette demos and just dove into Presonus StudioOne. I love it but man, I've got a lot of work to do! Very much interested in writing for sync placements. Man, have you heard the intro song for the Amazon show "Hand of God" ? Bad to the bone. I just started writing again after life happened for a while. Again, thanks for sharing. It's a great value! God bless!

Great advice!!! I am a 100% instrumental gigging guitarist specializing in jazz/fusion, classical/flamenco, but, also play blues/Rock, however, I was brought up on motion picture soundtrack ( Dad did some acting before I was born, so he would play that when I was a little boy). So, my early recordings were basically sound scapes, & in the early to mid 2000s, I would play at the Bristol Renaissance Faire in Wisconsin & I would play background music to a seen that the actors would do, so this is VERY interesting to get into, plus, we had just survived Hurricane Ian down here in SW Florida & have lost about 75% of gigs due to that, so this opens up other doors of opportunity! Thank you for sharing this, I subbed to your channel and will support, you ROCK my friend, be safe, Rock On & God Bless, Merry Christmas!!!

This is an awesome backstory! I'm also happy to see you turning this into a Positive. I'm in Ft. Myers every year (excluding the past 2). I hope your gigs return! I also wish you much success on this new exciting path, try to enjoy the journey portion of it too! Merry Christmas to you also.

Thank you, Marlon 🙂I'm a sceptic...
@MarlonGibbons
@MarlonGibbons 2 года назад
Scepticism can be a good thing. It can protect you…so long as its balanced with open-minded research. It can motivate you to ask important questions. At the end of the day, those answers may help you decide the industry isn’t for you and you will have saved a ton time and money. So scepticism can be good. It’s a win/win because you may also develop a new perspective and feel inspired to optimistically move forward. Good luck in whichever you choose!

@@MarlonGibbons I watched this again, sorry, didn't want to be pessimistic (I was in a depressed mood). Your're informative with useful advise, and certainly do stress that this is a long game, and so optimism is important, as well as stamina. I'll keep watching your channel 🙂and try to have a long term optimistic view. Thanks, Marlon!

My primary music job is as a bassist in a cover band. I started the composing-thing while at home at the start of the pandemic. I was learning how to use Reaper to rerecord some demos of songs I'd written in my 20s (30 years ago) and kind of drifted into it after seeing a number of RU-vid channels including your own. I'm still learning as I go (somewhat slower after a return to work) and still writing for non-exclusive libraries. Hoping, perhaps, by the end of the year to have something signed by a sub-label to Universal or sumsuch.

This is great! decades of experience as a professional musician, now as your get better with your DAW (Reaper) you can keep moving forward. (Though hopefully you're back out gigging now or soon to be).

I occasionally hear/read advice to bands and songwriters to consider submitting their back catalog of albums to libraries. Not a bad idea, but it's likely not going to do much for them unless they continue to feed music to the libraries, correct? The usual advice I hear is fully completing (recorded, mixed, meta, etc) a bare minimum of a track per week. Your thoughts on this? I struggle with this because I find it difficult to wear both an artist/performer hat and media composer hat simultaneously, time-wise, while also working a day job. I've tried REALLY hard to spin these plates. I don't want to sacrifice my artist inclinations, so I'm trying to figure out just what kind of involvement with libraries I can have as a reasonable minimum that will stand some real chance of benefiting me financially. Thank you!
@MarlonGibbons
@MarlonGibbons 2 года назад
Hey Daniel, yes, your odds are greater if you “continue to feed” Libraries your music. But that doesn’t negate the opportunity you still have with that original album. Perhaps finding Non-Exclusive Music Libraries (where you can place one album with multiple Publishers) is a consideration, if you are not able to produce more music or time is a factor. It's important to note, as for “Quantity”, there are a lot of formulas and opinions out there about the quantity needed to be successful.. but IMHO they often forget to mention all the other very important variables.. like Quality, and who the Publishers are as well as how Placeable the tracks are.. that list goes on. So it’s not as simple as determining a # / per week of tracks. There are a number of things that need to go along with quantity to make it worth while. That # will vary for different people too. Maybe it is in fact 1 track a week…but it could be less or more depending on your situation. Best to you!
