I’ve just built this kit, and you actually can get a full rotation on the waist if you pull it up on the ball joint a bit or tilt the torso as you rotate. Not even the Gouf Revive can boast that because this particular variant doesn’t have hoses linking to the backpack.
You know it always amazes me how popular the MS08th team is and how neglected it is in terms of kits. None of the MG are 2.0s and HG kits like this are like beyond rare. I've always loved Goufs and this kit especially but ever getting it is very slim. Great review as always and I love the comparisons between new and old versions of a it!
Thank you as always:) I think the stories showing them all as grounded machines gives the MSes so much character, it's hard not to love them - so much so that people don't notice the Gouf Flight Type was only in the show for a few seconds (I used all the footage in the review already...)
Man, there was a manga story by Kazuhisa Kondo about a Gouf Test Flight type in Odessa with a giant sword and other swords who fought against lots of GMs before being sniped by a gm sniper or something. It was one of the coolest things I ever saw in Gundam.
I really wanted that Mk-II as well for reviewing but they were all snatched up by stores that imported it... I'd love to paint a G Defenser to match it
There's something about this box art as well as all the Real Type boxes from all eras that just makes me want to collect all of them and display them on a shelf. They're just so awesome and a piece of Gunpla history!
As a big Dom fan, I always appreciated the lower leg design on the Gouf Flight Type. Many similarities in both form and (to a degree) function. As always, thanks for putting together another fantastic review!
Always good to see you here in the comments:) The designers seem to like the legs too and did the color separation on them so nicely. The bell-bottom legs are really classic-Zeon
I love your stuff, but can you please put the eye or mono eye decals on? They add so much life and don’t really count as color correcting stickers. It’s the bare minimum of making your kit look more full of life.
One good thing about the zeon hands from 2005or so onwards is that most of them can swap out the hand covers, and another thing is if you want a "stored" look on the Gatling shield is removing the barrel and plugging it into the vulcan sensor, it's not really meant to but it does fit.
It's quite annoying how there's more hands than hand covers no matter where you get the hands from. I have way more than I can ever use, but it always bugs me it isn't 1:1... You were playing around with the Gatling shield when you discovered that fitting compatibility, weren't you? :)
Yeah, can't bandai be a little more generous with the hands? Ideally I'd want almost every kit to have trigger and open hands for every arm, only one actually doing this is the HG Origin RX-78. HG High Mobility Zakus, the Thunderbolt Zakus, and the recent new HG Char Zaku have almost this, but only 1 open hand. Still glad they do at least.
Woo! It's finally here! 🎉 And man that was a great review, Thanks once more to the lad who gifted this kit to you and It's really a shame this kit is so damn rare Let's hope Bandai makes a Revive Version of the Gouf Custom at some point and we can hopefully have this Bulky Bird be a Retail release
This Real Type is 'slightly' easier to get but costs so much... Bandai needs to stop being stubborn and letting so many middle-men take our money I really thought they'd do a Revive Gouf Custom from the plain Gouf, which they sadly didn't...
@@HobbyClubhouse Yeah, P-Bandai should really just be for color variants like that OG HGUC Gouf you review a few videos back, and Yeah I really thought they would do more with the Revives like Making those Gyan Variants from Ghirens Greed or making the Guncannon Heavy Type but seems we aren't getting them any time soon since the people at Bandai are probably working hard on the kits for the newer stuff like Witch from mercury or Urdr Hunt
Missed this video since I’ve been busy starting a new job. Looks like a nice kit! I might go for the Gouf Real Type instead though. Heat Sabers are so cool!
Thank you so much and hope things are going well in your new job! The Real Type Gouf is super popular and I keep seeing it pop up in Twitter. It's not easy to find though, so I wish Bandai would just make Real Type kits simpler to purchase...
someone mentioned that the cover is an actual model photograph, edited to emulate the feel of the old real type box art - don't ask how/where I extracted that info... i get the exclusive treatment for something like the daughtress, but for this - it doesn't make sense to me, it already has an old regular release, and ms 08 is not a niche series - it can even be argued that gundam weathering is synonymous to the ground type.
I always found Bandai's treatment of the MSV line (and conceptually similar MSs) weird. Many people have shown love for those alternative versions of loved Mobile Suits (my favorites being the Desert Zaku, GM Cannon, and the Mass Produced Hi-Nu with INCOMs), and yet they are rarely available. The Origin kits are a step on the right direction, but still weird since it gives us "incomplete" MSVs, leaving the proper ones as P-Bandai. I wonder what are they thinking. Anyway, does no space version of the Gouf exist?
Yeah, the Gouf was specifically made for atmospheric use, so the Gyan is sorta kinda almost a space analogue of it. I doubt it's a good idea to rely on the heat rod in space anyway...
15:26 "hang out here some more and go watch a review of the older goof flight type" less than a month from now marks 3 years since this video was uploaded and that video is nowhere to be found anyway, just re-watched this review for the nth time since an unofficial version was caught in my radar, seems like a good time to finally see that old gouf flight type review. (hint, hint)
@@HobbyClubhouse hopefully much sooner (like maybe in the next 4-6 weeks?), though at this new rate - that is currently zero uploads per month - it is concerning. well, hope you find a way to upload videos even if it's not as frequent as before.
@@HobbyClubhouse you did it! it may not be a splashy return like a fresh RG 2.0 review ahead of everyone else, but a nearly 3 year promise has been fulfilled and that is very special. now I'm all good to wait even another 3 years for other old hints, knowing that they will happen eventually.
For Gundam Base kits, I really really want their all-white Painting Models. I want all of them. I was thinking of MSes with arm-mounted weapons and there's surpringly not that many
Wait, wait, wait, wait, you mean that the original Gouf Flight Type kit was based on the 1998 Gouf Custom kit? Damn, i thought they used the new Gouf Custom mold.
interesting, my old MS 08 gouf flight is extremely sturdy - maybe luck of the molding draw. But I just have to ask, do you always keep your kits without decals?
If that's true then I feel super bummed, I was really disappointed by my 98 Flight Type's weak elbow because I love the kit so much... And yeah, I usually don't use the decals because of the feeble hope that some day I'll paint the kits... there's always that empty hope
@@HobbyClubhouse I may have figured it out - One thing I often always do with polycaps is that I trim them with an excess nub from the PC runner. this way, there is extra friction on the flat sides meeting the plastic cylinder insertion - otherwise it will just rely on the cylinder sides for traction but your kit may still have an easy fix - by spraying 2-3 layers of primer into the insertion point for stronger traction. just make sure to properly mask, but you knew that. I normally do this for kits that I know I'm painting - because I sand the pegs beforehand ( for easy disassembly ), then primer to get back the traction / without risk of breaking the pegs. most of the disassembly/reassembly stress is absorbed by the primer.
In the lore of gundam both the Gouf Custom and the Gouf Flight Type swords are heat activated like heat hawks but unless your Ramba Ral. the pilots of both Custom and Flight Types NEVER activated the heat feature.
Yeah, I've seen that discussed before too how it's a bit ambiguous if this style of sword can heat up at all. If it could, that poor brown Flight Type really should have used it...
Lies i told myself when i bought this : well, atleast it came with water decals! That's gotta count as a win, right? As for the kit, its another great kit that is gated by 'artificial' difficulty, WTH Bandai indeed. (Also, the Mk.2 RT is proving to be another level harder to get what's with the flight and travel restrictions)
I wanted that Mk-II as well both to have and to review but the nutty people bought them all even with imported prices... Bandai is allergic to money sometimes.
I'm convinced that this body color was the original intended color for the GM in the original anime series which was limited by the technology of its time, and it would probably look great instead of its toothpaste color. wonder if there's a back story for that spanish flag decal on the shoulder
"toothpaste color"... Now I can't unsee that... You know, I wonder a lot about that red/yellow/red thing on the shoulder too. I'm guessing it's some sort of reference to fighter jet livery? I'm not a military buff so I'm not sure...
Is there a chance for you to review third-party kits? A lot of Supernova and Daban ""Original"" kits are pretty good. Sure, there's definitely a problem with the licensing, but some of the kits are genuinely great.
I'm quite curious about them though I never see them much here in Hong Kong, even though China's just next door. There's also the pitchfork mob online that really really hate non-official kits to deal with...
The hands it uses are the common Zeon-type round hands that are used on many kits like the Origin Zakus, the high mobility ones, the F2, even the Geara Doga has them so you see them a lot
