I’m 27 im a class one driver mate and I had to pull over into a lay-by just to comment on this video. I have the exact same attitude as you i absolutely love this job I’ve been doing it for nearly 4 years and couldn’t Imagine doing anything else. Before I got my licence I worked 3 years in a factory and seriously it was hell, all I wanted to do was be on the road for the freedom and honestly it’s my ideal job. Cruising about the north of Scotland today hope you have a belter mate. Subscribed

Not sure on this . Pleased your loving it but will say most dont . From experience . Most of the work has poor starting/finishing times . Trucks run when no-one else is around so thats when you are required . Expect 2/3am start times . Expect around the 50-55 hours a week to be the normal every week . A 12 hour day is the normal for most . Expect nights . Expect a 50 hour week to get blown through the first day due to traffic . The roll on roll off stuff is a tiny % of the real work load out there and on class 2 its delivering to shops and business etc . Thats anything from car parts to booze but mostly to shops . You will be driven insane by the stupidity and selfishness of the public who go out there way to block you in , not let you in or just act like morons . Once you learn to deal with it then theres the small matter of humping 1/2 ton of milk in cages , in all weathers , hour after hour , day after day . There is no escaping this it is what class 2 is for , the class 1 lads call them a van .... it may be 26 ton and have 10 wheels but its still a van . It is graft . Day to day expect that cab to become home . The chaps very right that you go prepared for anything . Expect to piss in a bush daily as there isnt facilities for drivers on stops . Expect to gain weight as its simply hard to eat a healthy way when its packed lunches for 3 meals a day . Expect a deteriation in mental health thanks to the stress of not being home , crazys on the roads and stress from missing out on general normal lifestyle activities . It has to be pointed out you as a truck driver are not king of the road ... you are shit on the bottom of everyones shoes . Expect to recieve little in the way of respect . This is reflected in the way we struggle to park up even though its a legal requirement . The struggle to get food or even close to a toilet . Then theres the small matter of the cops look out for you , DVSA are happy to fine the shit out of you , the transport managers generally an unrealistic sociopath , your managers going gray and bald thanks to your provable excuses and the customers cant believe you are arrogent enough to show up with goods for them so treat you like dirt . The sites arnt interested they havnt tipped you and had you wait 4 hours or thanks to traffic are 10 minutes late for a time slot .... it is madness . It really is a daily fight to deal with the legal bollocks of the tacho while at the same time trying to work out wtd to simply avoid the £1000 a time fine for something accidental and all the while being tired ... just really bloody tired . Rewards a tough one . The last say 15 years the wages have stayed the same or even gone down ! . Thanks to some very recent changes the wages are now very much on the rise . Some places will seek to exploit you at 11 an hour but now expect 14+ for your time . Class 1 realistically starts now at 15 but most are now forced to pay 17 plus . £20-25 an hour is not unheard of either as is £300 day rates . Its got to be said if you went for your class 1 then the world can be very different . You can and will still get multidrop but less of it . The type of work changes massively as now you get alot more trunking so its site to site every day and easy easy money for hardly any of the stress . The work types much more interesting if you dont want to do site to site daily with building site work , trankers etc etc . So over all i would say its easy to paint a nice picture of class 2 but in reality most will find it very very different . Class 1 is better on so many levels . The wages are on the up thankfully and its a job that unless you drink it away or crash alot you wont get sacked from often . Would i recommend paying 3K for this lifestyle ? .... i would not . However you may like it or may chance across a decent role so for that alone maybe its worth a go .

Fuck me pal sounds like you've got a shit job, too afraid to leave and think it's all the same. Getting your class 2 is some of the easiest work you'll ever do try retail or working on a building site you'll know what graft is. If you don't like multidrop to shops then try a diff job. Best thing about being a hgv driver is being able to switch jobs within a day and there's plenty diff jobs on class 2. Skips, roro, recovery, tippers, transporters, bins, council work, sweepers etc. I worked 6am to 3pm mon to fri for 5 years and had none of your problems, you know how? I switched jobs till I found the perfect hours for ME. Then I wanted an earlier start and a better OT rate so I left and went somewhere else as my priorities changed(buying a house wanted more ££ so wanted better OT rate) as for becoming a fat cunt sitting down all day eating shit food, same applies to office work surely? Stop buying crap and make your own food at home buy a food thermos keeps your food warm 12 hours(I take chicken, wholewheat pasta n broccoli) or on amazon buy a hot lunchbox that you stick in a 12v 40 mins before your break and your already cooked food will be hot. And buy a gym membs. No excuses pal. Class 1 is even easier just drive rdc to rdc for £17+ an hour sit for an hour or 2 then on to the next. Hermes, yodel etc all piss easy work thru an agency.

@@HSMike2 Shit jobs with me ? your not wrong !. I posted as it can come across as its a world of being left alone to do what you need to do and every days a decent day . From experience ive always found the exact opp so im just hoping people dont lash lots of cash to find themselves stuck in an industry thats not as demonstrated . . Theres lots of hgv pages on facebook and most will paint the same picture ive stated . The food situation is simply you plan ahead as best as possible . But you either take out decent home prepared and try to keep it fresh or do what everyone else does and take a few butties but end up seeking greggs or maccys at the services anyway as you cant maintain 3 decent meals a day in the cab . You also cant easily plan for snacks and truck drivers simply snack ALOT . It is the worst lifestyle for health possible driving a truck and thats from every medical consideration of the worst jobs out there , the governement and down to the level of teachers given its taught on an NVQ level ( i have a none descript teaching NVQ which requires me to state the same ) . Mix in nights and its just not good for the drivers . Theres a sterotype of fat truckers for a reason . Myself ive knocked it on the head for a little while . Id just spent the last year multi dropping on perminant nights in London from the midlands . The M1 night closure and surreal driving in Londons just about sent me gray . Ive not done with it . Ive instead got my `O` license and im branching out on my own once i find a bloody truck that is . I will still have some of the madness of the industry but i will then make my own days i work and times im available . I`m hoping it allows some life at the same time a better income .

@@godzillas6301 we're not in the usa living in the cab weeks at a time going state to state then yeah it's hard to keep in shape we're in england you can get from manc to london to manc in one shift. Are you doing 12 hour shifts or something? You can have porridge in the morning take it to work with you and bring a lunch like pasta salad and some fruit to snack on and you're sorted for the day surely. Then you get home and have your tea? Done. The office in my yard are constantly ordering takeaway from the café nearby and they're just sat all day staring at a comp. If you don't prepare your food the night before then expect to fail and binge eat at any place you find and spend £15 on a burger king in a services. Thing is you can still eat healthyish when not prepping food you can get chicken wraps from mcdonalds and salad bowls from subways so no excuses really, also there's healthy £3 tesco meal deals that do chicken wrap, apple/grape combo and water. Need to keep active by going to the gym 3x a week or walks when you're not in work that goes for office workers too they're in same situation. Also, everyone knows multi dropping to food places(brakes/dhl nisa/bidfood etc) is pretty much worst class 2 job you can do you just do it till you've held your license for a year or 2 then leave on to much easier work for similar pay. There's hard jobs and easy jobs, some people enjoy little driving and a lot of handball and some enjoy small amounts of driving and a lot handball. If you want to mostly drive and don't enjoy any handball you go for your class 1 as it's a lot easier. Class 1 is the same also, if you want alot of "handball" such as strapping and chaining loads up etc then flatbed is the best but if you want just driving and to be loaded/unloaded then trunking rdc work is best. There's an hgv job for any type you want to do.

@@HSMike2 I was on an 8pm start and a finish when you finish . So by the time you wake up theres a small window of family time before your off once more . This was 5 days a week so i would surface sometime saturday late afternoon to resume real life . The gym is a hopeless dream when on nights . Food i just couldnt manage it , never have been able to . The mrs would try to cram a large meal in me prior to work which ment daft stuff like roast chicken with all the veg for breakfast . Breakfast shouldnt have gravy with it but bless her she was trying to look after me . I would also take sandwiches daily but every day , month after month and it gets to you . By 4am your up for a bit of food once more and theres not alot you can sourse from . Taking the wide flask in with chicken noodles seems a decent idea but in reality its the last thing i want to knock up before going to work . If its anything ive not been in a maccys since 2019 , a burger king since before then etc etc . I do a subway but a salad box only . I dont do costa and ive never been in a starbucks . Myself i dont like to drone along after after hour and prefer a bit of handball . Ive sat in drivers rooms pissing my life away in someone elses uncaring hands so i opt out of that . I am a class 1 by the way . Around here is all trunking .... a sniff of class 2 with a bit of varity and not much else . Next door but 1 is semi retired doing flats . Hes put me right off chaining plant down i can tell ya :-) .

I always tell people that it's not worth it, some Class 2 jobs are okay but the vast majority of them are hard work, anti social and utterly terrible hours. Overtime isn't a choice, it's mandatory every day, the pay even after the so called shortage is still crap, the work is usually hard graft and it's just generally anti social... You're doing well if you do under 12 hours a day

I see where your Coming from but that's just your experience of the job, I respect your opinion and can only come to the conclusion you have worked for the general riff raff in the industry, yes its hard work and sometimes dangerous but some of us love it and money isn't our main goal as long as I get home each night pay my bills and enjoy life I'm cool with my job, and all the jobs I've worked have been 7-5 or 8-5 Monday to Friday with optional Saturdays so I can't complain but I'm always keeping my ear out for better life experiences, I guess these days people stick at it because it's a pretty secure job and the others love it and wouldn't have it any other way, it's deffo not for everyone and I can appreciate that 👌

Whilst I agree with most of what you say, every job is different. In general haulage, you are at the mercy of your planner and the motorways. The amount of times I’ve missed appointments etc because of bad planning or traffic is unreal. Like I’ve always said, I’ve driven class 1’s for 11years, and even though I’m classed a day man, I never try to make appointments during the week. Monday - Friday is work, anything can happen. So that only leaves Saturday and Sunday’s for everything else including family. For me, driving is the best job, but can also be the worst.

Hgv class 2 in South Wales UK is absolutely not worth it the wages are so low. You better off working as a van driver or in a warehouse or checkout at lidl you will have an easier job with equal or sometimes even better pay it's absolutely not worth the hassle. The only reason I did it and recommend everyone else to is because its a good step up to class 1 which is more pay. But if you don't plan of upgrading to class one then my advice is not to waste your time. EDIT: I was extremely lucky to have my previous employer fully pay for my licence training, its great that I was given a licence meaning If I struggle for work I can always do some driving however I don't think i would ever be crazy enough to cough up so much money out of my own pocket.

For me it was a no-brainer. Should have done it years ago. I take my class 1 in around 6 weeks, which will give me more options. As for funding, I was lucky and applied through a Local Authority scheme. Got the funding for the Class 2 and because I studied hard and passed everything I needed to first time round, I got the extra funding for the Class 1. Due to the shortage of drivers nationwide, there are schemes out there for everyone, just keep looking.

There a lot of people saying they want to become hgv drivers. Yes it's a good job but bare a few things in mind. It's not 9 to 5 , if you have a partner they need to understand what you do or their will be problems like your dinner will be in the dog when they get fed up of you coming home at 7 when you say ill be home for 5. You need to have a love for driving and I mean love 💘 driving. You need to have a good attitude and bare with crap from other road users. Be prepared to tell another driver to clean his shit out the cab if you swap trucks regularly. Be committed and not burning the candle both ends like partying till 2 am then going to work for 6. Like being part of a traffic jam, don't live on red bull get proper sleep at night. Remember truck driving originally was single man's job with a woman in every town. Not anymore though.

@@sLim88CPC Yes of course it can be 7 to 5 it all depends what nature of work your doing. Class 2 work your more likely to finish ontime because your rarely sitting on loading bays waiting to be loaded. Class 1 work its not drop and go plus you have more restrictions on route such as low bridges and weight limits. There's plenty of money to be made now the rates have increased. Some general hauliers you normally end up sleeping in a truck couple of night per week so I would go for class 2 if your going to be concerned not getting home within 9 or 10 hours.

You still have to want to do it and the vloggers portraying all the rosie stuff leave out the crap. I came late in life to it so the road rage stuff doesn't bother me at all. Because of the current shortage of both Class 1 & 2 drivers, the government are considering giving anyone who has had their manual PCV from December 2000, I think it is, their Class 2 licence. No test. No medical. Just a short driving assessment. I do hope that happens as a friend of mine has his own business with road sweepers, tippers and a couple of recovery vehicles and he’s said that I can get a start with him. Been thinking of getting my class 2 for a while now but am hearing it's all 50-60 hour weeks which I just don't need. Really I just don't want to work over four day weeks because I've adjusted my lifestyle to just that. What are the chances of finding that four day job? I'd be perfectly happy doing ten hour shifts so 40 hour weeks would be great. Just don't know where to turn to find anything out.
@dennell
@dennell 2 года назад
Same mate... Sticking with the supermarket job though is dead end. The stories of 50-60 hour weeks are tosh... You can get agency work and do the hours you like 35-40... If you get treated like a mug in one job do another for someone else. Class 2 jobs are more demanding as you'll probably have unloading duties.. class 1 however usually just depot pick up and drop off jobs.. Loaded and unloaded by someone else... Just don't work for a supermarket.. they take the p**s from what I've seen.. expecting all hgv drivers to unload and load because they don't want to pay some someone at the supermarket to do it... So avoid them and you should be good

@@dsjmoto724 wow, that's mad man, I was after IS300 with that bombproof 2JZ-GE, was well stoked, but now I'm after something bit newer (however the IS300 1st gen stays in my heart haha), also Lexus. :) I live in Manchester as well and getting on with Class 2 soon, small world. :) All the best for you mate!

You shouldn't doubt yourself mate knowones a great driver straight away and these people won't send you for test if your not ready, I had alot of doubts in myself to be honest but once I realised how much I wanted it I just cracked on until I was driving one myself, the test isn't that hard either just like your car test I'm sure you'll be fine mate go for it 👌👍

Hi mate just watched the video, really enjoyed it! Quick question for you if you don’t mind, I did my class 1 and 2 licence while I was in the army about 2 or 3 years ago and passed them both with flying colours. I haven’t touched a lorry since then which was about 2 to 3 years ago. I’m thinking of giving lorry driving a go as a change of career. What would you recommend I do as I’m a bit concerned I haven’t drove them in a while? Also would an employer even consider me without any experience? Your thoughts would appreciated.

Hi Scott only just saw this comment, at the moment places aren't too picky and if you find a job offer just make them aware that your new to it all and just take your time you'll be fine, rushing and learning never go hand in hand so personally I would take it easy and build up confidence and skill as it comes all the best mate 👍

As a class 2 driver my money is about the same as my last job in a warehouse but I am not a money driven person. i love being on my own at work and just cracking on. so I went for the easy hours what comes with less money. But if your happy to work longer hours for more money then you can do that with no problem. The one thing I would say is that there is lots of different types of hgv work out there. Make sure you really think about what you wont out of driving.. btw that bit about road rage is so true.

Just spent £3.5k going straight to class 1. I had been driving buses for 3 years though so already experienced with large vehicles. Went straight into full time employment doing palletised multidrop. It's great that my passengers are now strapped to pallets and can't talk to me or spit at me etc. And I can listen to the radio too. My company will put me through ADR too so that'll make me more employable too.

@@dsjmoto724 yep, enjoying it. Oh and the bus driving taught me to ignore the idiots on the road. I see so many drivers losing the plot over others driving. Far easier to let it go and forget.
