I feel like in her recent interview's she's being a lot more genuine and less of a specific character that she always used to portray. It's really refreshing to see her coming into her own with the new music she's been releasing.
She's not working with titanic anymore and it's like she can finally be a real artist. Her saying this feels like her first album even though it's her third is powerful tbh
An extremely mixed(ter) bag, that one. He's brought so much art forward, and so much bleeding, over-the-top tragic-romantic ego at the same time. He has so much talent and at the same time so little self-transcendence: a truly tragic combo.
I thought Norma Jean was actually much odder mention, and it was first - the other two were mentioned after (making it all the odder to me). I'm sure there are weird internet services you can pay to record weird shit in in Poppy's voice... *runs off to check if they exist, if not, to make one*
All the posers and hipsters said for years how they listen to Iron Maiden, Slayer and Metallica while in reality they don't. She seem just like another one of those posers and happen to be lucky to find a certain audience. Seen that millions of times before. Pink or white, black shirt with Slayer on it while being on a Techno party. WHile asking the person which songs of the Slayer they like the most they look at me like I fell from another planet. In her case she is just selling her self by venturing into different waters because doing one thing over and over again doesn't work on the long run. It's hard to believe her. She puts up an act to gain certain attention. The only thing I do agree with her is that she said genre doesn't exist and shoudln't because it limits a persons abilities to express them selves. For example back in the day I hated record labels making brands instead of free spirited performers then in mid 90s we got a huge boom of all sorts of different things which was a good thing but they still make up new genres names like it means anything. And even myself I never liked to label myself as one or two genre because I like to work on everything. Well almost everything. And that is how all music lovers should do.
"not being afraid of burning things down, starting over." i got chills. she really is so over titanic and is ready to move on without him. i'm so proud of her.
@@hector101997 Really? :o Yeah, hence me being able to find out he co-wrote the album. Have Googled, found nothing. He's been advertising the album as recently as late November. So sounds like bullshit to me tbh
Norma Jean I get... she's was probably a scene chick a few years back. If she would've said I'm a Big fan of Decapitated, At the Gates, and Dying Fetus I would've shit... On the keyboard
Alissa Lea ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_8XSVlDkhPQ.html check the difference. Also there is more proof out there that it’s a character she’s playing. Also Mars Argo is worth checking out.
This is the most authentic I have seen Poppy be. She seems like she is actually a person rather than that robotic character she was playing. It's like she actually clicked with the character and her actual personality finally engaged fully with the persona.
I think genre still exist, but new music within an specific genre is getting redundant. Unfortunately, metal music has been suffering from this a lot, power metal bands are still making power metal, thrash metal bands are still making thrash; add to that that the production on 90% of metal albums is getting samey, too clean, lacking edge... So yeah, I'm grateful for artists like Poppy that are reinventing heavy music, ignoring elitist fans, creating their own sound.
@@RENX5 Avant-Metal is booming at the moment. You've got Poppy and Babymetal kicking people's shit in for the mainstream, and now Dog Fashion Disco are back in full swing. It feels good being someone who loves seeing Metal evolve.
Honestly there are still genres. People sample and are influenced by wider amounts of other genres thank to technology and internet. But humans still have patterns
To clear up the confusion on everyone saying they’re confused, she’s releasing a metal album and some of her past songs have had guitar riffs and quite metal sounding songs.
So simply adding generic metal beats and riffs to Dora the Explorer would qualify it as Dora the metal-corer? Well at least poppy has a music genre still available especially for her, cringe-core🖕😂.
Curious Fiend why not be open minded and just try to listen to other genres of rock it’s not like the 90’s anymore where rock has to sound a certain way. Btw I’ve never listened to any of her music and I’m just saying this since you clearly don’t give anything a chance
I really like her, she seems like a very unique and interesting person. She's this innocent looking girl that for sure has a few skeletons in her closet and I mean literal skeletons.
@@brunacm7594 I know her history. Why the fuck would I care about that. I care about what she does now. If the album she puts out is solid why would I care about the work she dis before that?
ok but she SLAYS every answer not just here but in any interwiew like omg she don't throw shade at anyone directly, she dont say anything you can turn into something drama but tho she express what she want to say so good omg
If yall in the comments haven't heard the single for "I Disagree" definitely check it out. I think it's got a groove metal feel to it. Good on Poppy for not limiting her artistic expression to just one genre!
sunnibird bruh just because you dislike something another person likes doesn’t mean you should hate on it at the end of the day they’re still going to listen to that genre of music even if you hate on it so why not be open minded and try new genres and things in life and say if you don’t like it after you tried it
Lord Doggo you have no idea what I listen to so not sure where you’re going with the “try new things” pep talk. I just prefer artists to corporation manufactured drivel. If you want crap on a waffle cone and want to call it ice cream you go right ahead.
I love watching interviews with Poppy, you can tell how intelligent she is, as she carefully chooses how to answer every question. She definitely keeps them on their toes!
I don't get some people in the comments here. Hating on pop music, but when they try to change it up you also hate it. I'm not realy huge on poppy's music either, but at least she is trying. come on guys
Badman oddly enough, I actually like her straight up pop music more because it was some fun, well written pop. Her newer music mixing metal and pop kinda feels disjointed and just not my cup of tea I guess. I respect her for doing what she wants tho.
Because she finally got freedom to make music based on her own taste. She was always fan of rock, metal and punk. Even her father used to play for punk rock band. She used to be lead singer of indie rock band before she met Titanic Sinclair who turned her pop. You want it for some reasons. 1. Interesting journey of pop singer turning into metal musician. I've been listening to her tracks because I was intrigued by the decision she made to make metal music. 2. Better incorporation of pop parts and metal parts. It's true that Babymetal isn't liked by many Metalheads but poppy feels better as compared to babymetal (sorry it's my opinion and some Metalheads feels same way) 3. Weird visuals and hilarious lyrics. It may be biased but I've met Metalheads who says that. 4. Not repetitive background music. 5. Mysterious decision-making of creating metal music.
I see some confusion and ignorance in the comments so let me explain: (I watched the most of the videos so I follow the lore a bit.) Poppy is a multi genre artist and art project originally created by herself and Titanic Sinclair. The idea was originally suppose to be a young innocent girl who signs a record deal to the devil (Bubblebath EP) and then when she gets more famous is invited into the secret “inner circle” (Hollywood corruption) as seen in the Poppy episode on RU-vid and the beginning of Poppy.Computer. That’s when the plastic, manufactured star starts, with Poppy.Computer and Am I A Girl?, her being controlled by her companies to make catchy pop music while making a cool futuristic yet weird aesthetic for herself. But she doesn’t like it at all, so here comes Sumerian Records and another change. I Disagree is a just a fuck you to the softer and electro pop songs and persona which she probably hated, her breakup with Titanic (who was an abuser if you are not aware.) and her getting to try another new chance in music. I’ve followed her all this way because she might not have the absolute best music in all of history, but I sure as hell love watching how fascinating she evolves and getting great songs like Meat, BLOODMONEY, Play Destroy and I Disagree in the process doesn’t hurt either.
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW! ALSO THE FACT THAT THESE STORYLINE REALLY HAPPENS IN POPPY'S REAL LIFE LIKE SHE REALLY IS A STORYTELLER THO, I MEAN ABOUT THE EP/ALBUMS OF HER. SO GENIUS! I EVEN LOVE HER MORE! ♡
It would be cool if she dropped her act voice and talk like she really does. She is from Nashville. She does not talk like that. LOVE that she is now a metal icon especially at such a young age. At the time of this text she is now a millionaire.
If she sings about sex and boyfriends then she evolved into a producer produced pop poppy, if she sings about doom, violence and thing that piss her off, and pisses off feminists as well, then she is metal.
Poppy needs to be a wrestling manager at some point. She already plays a character, never really lifts the fourth wall and the amount of heat she's getting is more than any wrestler can dream of x)
I get the feeling shes trying really hard to stay in character when she wants to stray out a little to speak in these interviews. So strange and yet also cool. I dig it.
I'm so happy that poppy acted more natural here, in a metal environment. I've seen other interviews with her and she was acting weird, maybe because this was about the music instead of being about the poppy aesthetic? She was definitely a lot more interested in the questions.
@@TECfan1 my theory is that the pop scene was turning her into a robotic soulless entity, and now that shes able to get away from the machine shes humanizing.
@@jessiehoolahoopsmcgee I am not heckling she finally got to Slayer can't wait until she gets to Disturbed & System Of A Down King Diamond ect...im glad for her and her creative partners💜🙏✌
After knowing whats going on, and going back to watch her old vid, I saw that poppy's been hinting that she's in an abusive relationships for a good while 😭😭 and we really just go "haha wird vid lol" to her basically crying for help😭😭
