I couldn’t get to fold my scooter and this was the first video that clearly showed how to do it. I watched +10 before getting here. THANKS SO MUCH 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I got this scooter last week. Its really good. It goes up to about 20 or 21 mph. Decent battery. 2 nice lights. It has suspensions on both tires. Its $400. For that kind of $$ (without spending a king's ransom on a scooter) you're getting a very nice scooter. I suppose that if you are planning on doing more off road riding then you would probably need something more serious but for any city...this is your scooter. Again its a reasonable price ($400 was my limit as I have a car). I've read reviews on other scooters and from what I saw this is the best scooter for under $550 or $600.
Glad you like it, you must have gotten a different model if you have dual suspension, . I agree it is really hard to choose another scooter over this one, in this price range.
I really enjoyed the hiboy S2 it was it's my first scooter and it definitely it's fast and it's not as comfortable as to the other scooters and you're right man the the noise from the back spring that helps click the handlebars is very loud take a bit of quick tie or a couple of rubber bands to stop it from vibrating and essentially the scooter becomes very silent after you do that measure but five out of five scooters for 5 out of 5 stars is what I'm going to give this scooter thanks for the review
@@mike_t_007 I am enjoyed the S the Highboy for so long I've wrote it for 2 years and I just recently got the not the ninebot from Segway the gray one not the other color right now the odometer says 641 miles I write it to and from work everyday and the range on it is just amazing the e-revolution is coming and being a part of it is so much fun I recommend starting out with the Segway ninebot if you have the money to afford it
@@christophersmith1601 Wow thanks for the update. I have the S2 that I bought to ride from the charger where I plug my car in everyday which is a mile away from my job. I love everything about it except the solid tires. Otherwise they nailed everything and I mean everything with this scooter especially for being less than $500. Currently researching how to put regular air tires on to cushion the ride a little more while I adjust the suspension 😎👍🏾
@@mike_t_007 I know on my Highboy S2 the back tire underneath you can adjust the suspension by either unloosening or loosening the nut or tightening the nut that will give you some play in the rear of the suspension I have no idea where to find air tires for the high boy but the solid tires were great relief to know that I would never get a flat try my suggestion to see if you get a little bit more movement out of the rear end to soak up the bumps
I just ordered one of these for $328. I live in Capital Hill and need something to commute to work in downtown only 1.5 miles away and this looks good for the price and the solid tires although not as great as air are still preferred for daily commuting for worry and maintenance free.
Thank you for "reviewing" a "normally priced" "commuter" scooter!! The hard tires are also something I'm thinking about. I think it would be a great scooter for me except for that. There aren't really as many choices as I would like so I might go with it. Not only is the ride "important," but also the "wear and tear" that more bumps can have on other parts. Any thoughts about locking it up? I'm not very "security-minded," In fact, I often choose to cringe at how seriously some people choose to take it sometimes, but I would like *something*- anything- to "physically" lock up to on it. I do not "understand" why "manufacturers" don't just weld a little "loop" in the front or something. Someone could easily just pick it up and take it as if it were me taking it! While it "can't" be "driven" (maybe- because of the "software") there's still probably about $100-200 worth of batteries and motor in it... and someone might be able to "unbrick" it somehow too. To me this kind of seems similar in some ways, maybe, to leaving keys in "your" car and the door "unlocked" while nowhere near it. There's a good "chance" "you'd" have your car when "you" got back- probably almost "certainly," in fact, but it's just... ... "irresponsible"- I guess.
If you lock the stem portion by where it folds you can usually get a secure mounting point for a lock on any scooter. I do hear you on the hard tires, it is a trade off. I will say the small size of scooter tires are much harder to change than bike tires. Thanks for the comment
I just got mine but I purchased with the seat, and it it AMAZING!! It actually carried me and my wife at a nice speed, as long as you stay on a flat smooth surface..but we are purchasing 3 more for the wife to give me mine back and slower ones for the kids.. thanks 🙏🏾💯
@@mike_t_007 It's great! For the price I paid, it's an awesome scooter, but the rattling sound from the folding lock on the rear fender is kind of annoying and the shock absorption is not that great. I ended up buying a Ninebot Max after using it more than a half year
Excellent review! It certainly was professional quality. I just found an S2 in a dumpster today. The date on it is “2020.7.15.” I noticed all four hexagon screws below the charger connection were loose, but I managed to tighten them up. It looks like something is broken off on the rear brake. The rear brake cable connection is loose. And the part that you fold down the handle bar on the rear fender is missing (it has coat hanger wire on it as a Jerry rig fix). But other than that I have not found any obvious crash damage. Also the charger is missing. Do you have any idea what issue could have caused this to get scrapped? I would like to fix it if I can. But if not, I’ll just take it to the Goodwill to scrap it.
Join the Hiboy Facebook group and share your story. You may find someone with some local parts you can get to fix your scooter. Otherwise, Hiboy sells just about any part you need to get it safely back on the road
I'm using a gotrax gxl so I'm looking at this like this would probably be a better choice. My only thing is honeycomb tires. But if the ride is good I might give it a go. I've been looking at the max v2 model hard
It's rated better/higher then the GXL for sure. You can adjust the rear suspension and add the Monorim V3 front shock to drastically inprove the ride quality. Definitely worth it
Nice video. It would be better to not shoot into the sun when you're showing the scooter. How did you get the on screen stats while riding and videoing? It's pretty neat.
Heyy. I see you from Spain . The only think i want to tell you is that maybe if you put in km also It Will be nice for allí. I imagine that are people that see you all arround the world. Pd: nice video nice job
Thank you, I have been putting in metric speed and measurement conversions. I will try to do km for speed as I am riding or talking but doing the conversion in my head still takes a minute. Thanks again!
Excellent review. What was the music at 7:59, lights at night? Also, could you give me a location of where you shot the video, so I could look it up on Google Maps? Thanks Jim.
Hey how's it going! It was called Grestle Cove, in Salt Point State Park, beautiful. That music is just some free stuff from the RU-vid audio library, I can get you the name if you'd like. Thanks for comment!
@@JellyMonster1 If you search for the RU-vid audio library, the track was call "The Jigg is Up", I can't seen to figure out how to link directly to it. Thanks
@@fazesh9775 My ranges tests were between 1:10 (sport mode) and 1:45 (comfort mode @13-14 mph), I usually only think of miles, didn't really think of time. Thanks!
Hi, do you know if the monorim front suspensions can work on this scooter? And could you please explain well how to loosen the rear suspension? maybe you could even make a short video
I just sent a question to highboy about that, I couldn't tell for sure how the Monorim connects. The rear suspension is loosened by backing off the 14mm nuts at the end of the springs, you'd go opposite to make it firmer.
The suspension adjustment should be used as a SAG setting. The heavier the rider the more preload. The goal is to have suspension barely into its travel when the rider is on it. If it’s too soft the spring is always riding in a compressed/stiffer part of its range. Ride will not get better for a 175lb rider by loosening the bolt on those tiny shocks.
Been thinking about getting this. Just for reference. What’s your weight? Wanted something that’s sturdy enough to still go fast even with being a heavier weight.
i’m 5’6 134 pounds and i just ordered this scooter yesterday. i got it so that i could commute back and forth to work(14 miles). do you think it’ll have enough battery to take me back and forth and last a while? also, how long did it take to come after you ordered it?
Iam a 180lbs adult and debating between this one and the lite one for teens. I just need it to go from parking lot to work, its about 1 mile distance. The lite one is only 21lbs vs the Hiboy S2 Electric Scooter which is 31.9lbs. Can I ride this when rainning?
Have you tried installing a front suspension on yours? The amount of vibration from riding on this scooter makes my wrist hurt a bit and I wanna install a front suspension on it
I have not, at one time this company ZukBoard had a sweet suspension made to fit the ninebot/segway scooters. If you do the change, please let me know how it works!
It seems a lot of the functionality of the control panel are undocumented. For instance, it seemed the different ways of disengaging the cruise control surprised you and that you discovered them through experimentation not documentation.
Hiboy instruction manual's leave a lot to be desired. The disengaging of the cruise control while hitting big bumps was surprising. It is nice to have the audible tone when it goes into cruise control, more expensive scooters could really use that same feature. Cheers!
I bought the s2 pro I tested it and the speed goes up to 19mph if it hits 20mph it atumatically uses the electronic brake and is very stable however the suspension is very stiff, I think I got a new model
The S2 pro has a bit more battery so it may go slightly faster, it could be weight difference also. With the stuff suspension those speeds are pretty brutal on rough ground. Thanks!
S2 is slightly faster and better... Max V2 is more comfortable with the air tires but then you run the risk of flats. S2 you can loosen the rear suspension and add the monorim V3 front suspension for $90 and BAM....you've got the best scooter under $500
Its a UVEX brand, I got it on clearance a few years ago. I don't know that you can even get anything besides snowsport helmets from them in the US anymore. It's a little heavy but has really nice features.
Are you or anyone reading this comment have issues with battery life? It's advertised at 17 mile range but Im not getting anywhere near that. Honestly I feel like I am getting 3-5 miles maybe. After using it for maybe a mile or 2 the battery indicator goes down to half way. Does turning it on and off often maybe cause a battery drain? I had them ship me a new battery and still the same thing.
That is a little bit of a tough question, it can depend on how rough you are with the scooter and what kind of riding conditions you have. The key is properly maintaining the battery, not storing it at 0% or 100% charge. If you do that you should get years of use. Generally, what I see is if it last through the warranty period (1 year) than people usually upgrade before the scooter is having problems. Cheers!
If the headlight is up top and this has holes in the tires it's the S2 Pro. Also if it has red led lights around the deck. Can't tell from the video but this looks like an S2 pro. 🤔
I have had this asked before, it is 100% the regular S2, not the Pro, the best way to know is by the battery capacity and the tire size, these were 8.5" vs. 10" on the Pro. If you look at Hiboy's US website the regular S2 has all 3 of the things you mentioned. Thanks!
Does anyone know the height from deck to handlebars? Just ordered mine today and am curious what are some great things about the scooter? I did my research a lot, but love to hear from fellow buyers.
@Kylimy, I measured it at 39.5 inches. I always measure that and put it down in the description. I think you'll enjoy the speed and how solid the stem feels, it rides kinda rough so I hope your roads are pretty good. Thanks!
Pro has bigger battery, motor and wheels. Pro goes (further 8 miles more) than the regular S2. Both have too speed of 19MPH but can hit 20/21 on the right surfaces
+1, The little bump in motor wattage should give you a scooter that feels about the same from an acceleration standpoint. If you live with really rough roads the bigger tires will help with ride.
@donut132, I haven't tested the Max V2, to me on paper it looks like much the same scooter (battery and motor) with just a little difference in folding mechanism and style. I was impressed with the stability of the folding mechanism of the s2, the type on the Max V2 isn't usually as solid. I would expect similar ride and performance, so a tough call really, thanks for asking!
I was anxious to get an electric scooter a.s.ap. but I wanted to be smart about it and do some more research on several different scooters and today i finally decided on buying the hiboy s2 and I should get it shipped here somewhere around a week and I'm excited cause this thing is going to be very fun to ride.if I were u I'd go with the hiboy s2.
@@mike_t_007 i would definitely recommend a different scooter . This scooter feels stiff when riding on rough terrain . Also i had throttle and dashboard issues . Only had the scooter for 1 month . Seeing what i know now i would lean more towards a segway ninebot or a gotrax
When I try to go this fast just for a little bit it just stalls out cuz of the green little bars either telling me I’m going to fast or they turn orange and letting me know I hit a bump but the bump wasn’t even that bad
You might check some of the connections in the wiring if the stall happens after hitting a bump. I think there is also a potential that the brake cut-off sensors can be triggered by bumps sometimes, which would cut your power for a second. Those are my only two ideas, hope that helps!
@@stevenmartinez7111 That is steep, I personally don't like the way scooters ride with a seat, I'd advise trying someone's with a seat before buying one.
I believe this is the S2 Pro you are reviewing. The regular S2 doesn't have the red electronic brake on the handlebar like the Pro has and the hand brake on the S2 is on the left side and the Pro is on the right side
I double checked my photos, it is definitely not the Pro. It has the lower ah stamped on the side. Most scooter companies will have small changes and the photos online may not be exact to a given scooter. Thanks for making me check and keeping me on my feet!
@@ElectronSurfer Oh ok, I just found it weird cause the S2 does not have the red brake on the left and the Pro does. That is very weird to me but ok and thanks for the video by the way :)
@@ElectronSurfer Me either, that's why it was a surprise to me. As far as it compares, to me, the only difference with the Pro is that it has 10 inch tires, it can hit 20mph and has a 25 mile range.
@@jacobholder9913 do you get any error codes? I can't recall if all of the S2's have motor disconnects. I'd check the cable near the motor and also the connections at the handlebar from the display and throttle.
It looks like that Xiaomi is similar to the Hiboy Max3 correct? If the battery, motor, and tires are the same size between what you are comparing, I'd go on price and availability. It's hard to get Xiaomi models here in the US but I was quite impressed with this Hiboy's quality, especially for the price.
There is some disagreement on some advertisements, even the Hiboy website says 15.5 and 18.6 mph, luckily it looks like it hits the higher number. Thanks.
I noticed you live near Sacramento. Look out for aggressive homeless near them bridges. I am curious, do you think it’s worth it to get the pro model? I am liking hiboy. There is a dealer in Sacramento that sells and services Levy brand. Is customer service decent for hiboy in the event I need service or parts? My concern is buying something and being stuck with a lemon.
I am in Sacramento, l have been able to avoid the camps but am very cautious and aware. I think Hiboy and Levy are pretty much on the same level. I have a Hiboy Max3 you can look at if you are in Sacramento. I have heard mixed reviews about Hiboy dealing with issues, honestly I think you'd hope that you don't run into any issues because most scooter companies will supply parts (sometimes you have to wait awhile) and expect you to do the work. The benefit of Hiboy is you didn't spend all that much and even if it had an issue you would be able to sell it for a few bucks.
@@ElectronSurfer thank you for your reply. I’ve seen a few reviews on the Levy. There is a place in Sacramento that sells them and works on them too. The reviews aren’t great. It seems like they are dogs going uphill. What I am liking about Hiboy sr pro is taller tires, shocks, power and comfort. They are about the same price. I talked to someone at a campsite not long ago who had 2 of them and loved em. I guess my only concern is service and parts.
@@ricklarmer461 All 36 volt scooters are dogs uphill, bigger tires makes that worse as your effective torque goes down. I don't see the SR Pro, do you have a link? For people that have an initial concern about service I do suggest buying one with a local network, so that local shop may be the spot. Even if the scooter isn't ideal, the first problem with an online only scooter will make all advantages to that point moot!
@@ricklarmer461 Gotcha, The ride is still going to be pretty rough, a little better than the S2 but really just because of the 2" larger tires. What shop has the Levy, I'll go see if I can demo one.
@@ElectronSurfer I bought it but he didn’t come with a charger so I’m a bit confused on how do I get another charger without going to Amazon or Walmart
@@ElectronSurfer Not going to lie when the package was ordered to me it was kind of already ripped up like someone damaged and stuff like that so I figured I don’t know maybe someone destroyed it or something when I obtained it because the scooter was pretty beaten up and stuff
Nice scooter but I'll pay a lil more and get the pro version which has 10 inch wheels with softer rubber for a smoother ride a more powerful motor and longer range..
Just got my S2 Pro and it DID NOT come with the seat I ordered. Does anyone have a phone number so I can contact the company…. I have set an email as it seems to be the only way to contact this company
