Hats off to the developers for preserving the local history in such a thoughtful way. Land management themes do not usually have this much care towards the former tenants of real estate properties. San Diego is keeping history alive and well. P.S. The rapid-fire baseball zingers were awesome too 😅

They did it kicking and screaming! It was really the people and the local planning agency which made this possible. I wish they had put an actual baseball diamond there myself.

Well! I must say, this video is in a league of its own! Well done, you guys. Slick and well-edited with incomparably witty baseball puns and humor, none of which were particularly cringeworthy (except perhaps "I had a ball with you today . . .". but that may have just been a poor 'delivery'!).) Your foray into baseball trivia in downtown San Diego is much appreciated and well-timed with the imminent return of another season for the Boys of Summer. Keep up the good work.

When I was a kid, I had a little book of Baseball trivia which claimed-a bit tongue in cheek-that Ted Williams hit the longest homer in baseball history. From Lane Field it landed in a railcar going to Los Angeles! When I read that I didn't live in San Diego or know anything about it, but it just stuck in my head. I moved here as an adult. When they talked about this project about 10 years ago, it was a weird light bulb moment that "ohhh that's exactly what I read about in that book!"

There was another Hollywood Stars team in the PCL and I was taken to some of their games. They played in Gilmore Stadium in the Fairfax area of L.A. I believe that Gilmore, who made his money with oil and gasoline, owned the club and the stadium. They also moved 1957, the year before the Dodgers came to L. A. I don't know of any park or recognition of the Stars. Thank you for the video.

Fair enough.. I never watched the entire video to be honest. Never knew San Dan Diego Padres were a minor league team as I’d say 99.9% of people do not know that. Most people only know them as the team they are today in the MLB. Ted Williams is a legend in Boston.
@GSMSfromFV
@GSMSfromFV Год назад
@@thefourfourclub - The Padres joined the Pacific Coast League in 1936, after moving from Hollywood and changing names (per video). The PCL was founded in 1903, which included, among other teams, the Los Angeles Angels. MLB didn't arrive on the west coast until 1957 & '58.

The actual locations of the original bases and plate would have been about 147’ northeast of the markers. When the park was built instead of putting them in the buildings (where they would have ended up) they recreated them in a different location as a commemoration to the stadium. Home plate is actually about 20’ north east of 2nd base in the park. Good video though.

Useless but fun trivia IMO.
