Then we proceed to eating the most underrated Malaysian breakfast which should be getting more recognition at Mom's Corner in Klang.
Thanks for watching! We are Logesh, Rachel, Zaden and Kyren from the Kumaar Family.

Logesh you're doing a great job teaching Malaysian culture when you told Zay Zay to give the money with his right hand. But then again Zay Zay is such a wonderful well-behaved likeable kid.

Logic behind this? Just a superstition?

@@avitolourenco so in Malaysia, the culture is that the right hand is mainly used for eating and most other stuffs while the left is generally used for toilet purposes. So, it is seemed as more polite to use the right hand than its counterpart. Love how Logesh taught Zayden the right-hand etiquette. Thank you for this vid.. enjoyed it! On a side note, I wouldn't recommend to eat an apple with the skin raw. Apples are industrially waxed on the outside (invisible to our eye). Either de-wax it first or eat it peeled.

Cakoi & Apam Balik are both my favourite local kuih..But im a simple guy..I like my Apam Balik in ORI flavor..No need to add cheese, choc or any other extra flavor.Same goes to cakoi..I like it plain without any gravy (either the sweet of chili base). My feveret one is the one my late wife make for me.Its her family recipe..I think Logesh must known this, cakoi is actually Chinese kuih but enjoy by all Malaysian..My late wife is 1/2 Malay, 1/4 Chinese & 1/4 Indian..The cakoi recipe come from her Chinese part of family.

I remembered the Klang morning markets. Used to go there when the kiddos are tiny like Zayden and Kyren The "char guey" were once predominately made by Cantonese speaking hawkers. It is (directly translated as) "oiled ghost". Which means it is pronounced as "Yao Zhar (Jar) Guai" The one with the sesame seed coating used to shape like a horse shoe (U shaped) where the Cantonese people calls it "Mah Kiok" (Horse's feet) and the one Logesh likes is called "Haam Jim Beng" , which has 3 types: - empty / plain (has 5 spices flavour in it) - Red Bean filling - Glutinous center Other than that there are also "Jin Dui" , which is deep fried glutinous rice balls that has sesame seed coated outside. Sometimes with peanuts + sugar fillings / red bean fillings. Those are the original recipes. I didn't like the apom when I was young but slowly it grows in me. Used to get it from the day wet market in a small town called Menglembu (century old wet market) in Perak. If there is a chance you get to see the wet market at this place and want some char guey, you will need to tell them those Cantonese names 😉 Great to see the kids are having so much fun! (The Rotan made many Malaysians better human beings when they grow up. I remembered the old folks once said: Never use anything else except the rotan for discipline - always go for the bum bum. It engraves a different type of mentality and tells us - 💩 we screwed up - that's like when we REALLY screw up.)

Jantung Pisang (Banana flowers/blossoms/heart) is quite popular in the Northern States of Peninsular Malaysia (Kedah & Perlis). After boiling, it can be eaten as a Ulam or Kerabu (Salad). We would also cook it in coconut milk (Masak Lemak Jantung Pisang) or as a curry (Gulai Jantung Pisang). It's delicious. I enjoy Palappam as well. Malays call it Appam, but some people call it Apom.

(Yao)Char Kuey is fried in pairs due to historical legend: During Song dynasty, a reputable general 岳飛 Yue-Fei was betrayed and killed by 秦檜 Qin-Kuey and his spouse. The peasants started frying doughs in pairs and eat them, calling the snack Yao Char (deep fried) Kuey. Kuey - having the double entendre of "soft cake snack" and the name of the betrayer.

Cakoi is my fav too, and although i dont agree with the rotan because it leaves a mark ( we are not suppose to educate children above 7 yrs old with things that leaves a physical mark), i grew up with it, more like the feather duster rotan and the plastic coat hanger. There was a time when even teachers at school uses plastic and wooder rulers to scold their students. Maybe it does work, as nowadays, without it we see students even murdering eachother, litterally. I'm actually surprised you didn't know the banana flower Logesh, also known as jantung pisang in Malay. I wonder if you can plant a banana tree in California.
