Jordan, you’ll be happy to know that I bought the house from the owners you met before you visited. The house had been for sale for under two weeks. I happened to come across it while looking for a home and it had just been listed. Coincidentally I had just watched the documentary and recognized the house immediately. I have been a big fan of Mark’s for a long time and feel very connected as I can tell you do. I’ll be working on restoring the house exactly as it was in the documentary. Nothing will be torn down or changed if it can be helped. My fiancé and I plan on holding an small annual music festival at the property to celebrate Mark and music in general and will be working on registering the property as a historical landmark to ensure it’s preservation. It’s also worth mentioning that I believe the video “Maxine” of Mark playing was filmed near the old smoke shack out back as well. Oh and the old basketball hoop is still up in the garage to this day.
That is so great!!! I was so sad when they told me they had to move because they were getting older, but they said the person buying the house intended on not demolishing it, so it really makes me happy to see you knew the history of the house as well!! Count me in for the festival! I'd love to come back!
@@DazewithJordantheLion Absolutely. It would be a pure tragedy to lose this piece of history. I will be digging the pool back out and restoring it as well. I don’t want to paint the roof either but the insurance company is fighting me on it as they won’t insure it otherwise unless I can find a work around. On another note, I have also been trying to find the contact of the director of the documentary to see if she has any outtakes or old footage that could be dug up that was not used in the documentary that could then be shared with the rest of us.
@@DazewithJordantheLion I think spiritually, Mark is protecting the farm from beyond. It’s a very special place with incredible energy that one feels when onsite.
I'm a huge Sparklehorse fan, and Mark's music had a huge influence on my music. I think of Mark often, and every few months, I fall down a pit of Google searches, looking up information about Mark's music. I'm so glad to see this! Thank you for your video!
Boy thanks for your consideration, respect and the great tribute to Mark with Sunshine, you are a good soul, thanks for keeping the legacy of Sparklehorse alive in some way.
That was absolutely awesome!!! You're so lucky to have gotten such free access to the property. So nice of the owners to let you walk around. I bet that was pretty cool for you. Glad you got to see it! Thanks for taking us along!
I’d never heard of him before. I have spent a morning watching his band, interviews of him and his music. Now I understand why his music meant so much to you. RIP Mark, thank you 💓❤️💓🤣
Kinda eerie in a way. He kinda became the ghost of that house. Just like his wife use to believe in. You’d think she’d want that closeness still but maybe the opposite happened. Crazy. Good stuff my man.
Very big fan for a long time, was happy to see this one and watched the other/older upload some time ago…thanks Jordan and thanks Mark for the gorgeous music, RIP 🎗
This was such a nice tribune to Mark Linkous, his story is sad and good at the same time. How nice you had a chance to go to the gravesite they have there, yes it was a very small cemetery. You also go very luck to get to to inside Mark's old house before it got sold. What a great place for peace and quite. Sadly he did not have more time to make music.
💋Thanks for taking us along. I remember the other vlog you did about him before and knew you were a fan. Poetic lyrical artist! Continued Blessings and Support. ~Love&Light♥️Carli
This was wonderful and I LOVE that house, the land, the sounds.. I totally understand why he loved it there. :) So excited for you, too bud! Incredible experience!😇
It was nice that you got to visit Mark's house and grave. I'm sorry he's gone. His music will live on. Thank you to the couple that let you visit the house and studio. That was very nice of them. Stay safe and take care.
Jordan, loved this. Prayers that whoever purchases home, honors it, keeps it - a beautiful property, generally. -Just love it, and think it *victorious ,when anyone lives their depths. Mark, did, live his depth and affinities, Jordan. You have introduced me to someone I now am intrigued to go and listen to , who is now a "son of ethers." He did his thing. Even the quality and spirit of gravesite matches his energy while alive. Much thanks, and as usual, you've touched my heart with this.
I was, quite literally, doing the same thing (attempting to find mark linkous’ grave), and went to the wrong Vanover cemetery, and made it to this one, but was too scared to approach due to fear that I was on private property (it had been a long trip, and i was all alone, and my nerves were frazzled at that point). I’m so happy you were able to do this. Traveling along the backroads to Clintwood made me think about Mark riding his motorcycle out on those roads, and how beautiful it must have been. I wish I had been able to approach the grave, and to thank him, but I felt it was enough, at the time, to listen to All Night Home on those beautiful roads.
I can see why you thought that because of the house on the property of the cemetery, but I figure when it's a cemetery people are usuly pretty understanding..
@@DazewithJordantheLion I do want to return with my sister one day, because she is also a huge fan of his work. Hopefully having someone else (and also a better plan for the roadtrip) will make me feel better. As a straight shot, its 18 hours from where I live, so it might be a while before i get the energy to do that again haha
that was nice of the couple to let you in what a grand moment for you . that is a huge piece of property, nice. I have not heard this persons music but will look into it . glad you had a good time . thanks for the trip again Jordan and lucky Jah. take care be safe
Too bad you couldn't have bought THAT House!! I so happy you got to go there, I could hear it in your voice. Well, now I gotta go listen to some don't I? Thanks man. You always make me smile even when it's sad.
Hi Jordan, glad you managed to find his grave. Boy, his house really is in the sticks. How kind and what a lovely couple to let you go inside the house and film, a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity. I bet that farmhouse and the outbuildings will be changed completely. I was hoping you could have got a little memento while you were there, but, at least you went in the actual house and the outbuildings. Great vlog Jordan.
Beautiful tribute ❤ I'm glad you got to see his home . I remember the doctor he made . This took me back looking at the house again thanks so much Sparkle Horse fan 🧡👍
Whoah, Jordan. I am so bummed about Mark. I am still coming to terms with his passing. Such a horrible truth. I love your work, thank you so much for this. Great work man! danoz in Australia
🦁 Jordan, I enjoy my FA ✈️ trips to Virginia. Virginia is beautiful and that was Awesome how the owner let you explore his whole house and land!!! Hopefully, they sell it and receive a lot of prosperity for selling the house and their kindness to you comes in abundance prosperity back to them 🙏.
Wow, pretty amazing that you were successful in tracking down not only where Mark passed away here in Knoxville, Tennessee, but also his house and grave (five hours apart !) in Virginia. Your uncanny luck or karma or whatever it is proved itself rather spectacularly once again. On a lighter note, if Scott Michaels were with you, he probably would have found some way to obtain that air conditioner and file cabinet.
This is a beautiful upload. Thank you for this. The man was a genius. I wish i saw him perform live but unfortunately i got into his music a few months after his last show here in Glasgow.
Actually, those were the people selling the place when I was there.. they told me the property was too much for them to keep up with in their older age, but a fan of mark's contacted me and said he bought the house!
Thank you for telling us ( especially the ones who didn’t know about him) and showing us his gravesite. Glad the couple let you see inside the house and around the outside of the house. It was nice getting to learn about him. He was so loved by many people sounds like. Wish I had known about him when he was still on this earth. Thank you for all you do. Glad Jah gets to go with you. God bless you both
I love Virginia there is a lot of history in the state. Northern Virginia reminds me of Mississippi where my mother was from. I wonder how old the farmhouse is.
This was definitely one... what you didn't see was the two other small Vanover cemeteries I went to looking for his grave, only to almost end up stranded.. the cemetery was so small it doesn't even show up on maps... and the house was down a dirt road about a mile with no trespassing signs everywhere, so I was very shocked I made it to both places.. I almost gave up
Not familiar with Sparkelhorse at all but I will certainly give a listen now. Love driving the backroads too. Thanks for taking us along now that it is getting harder for me to get out more.
Mark and I have mutual friends and I was fortunate enough to buy a ton of his gear from Theresa. I picked it up from Scotts house in Knoxville, the location where he commited suicide. Ive been to his last home in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where we took some spent shell casings that were on the property from the rifle he turned on himself. His gear still has a mystical quality about it. Theres something special about those Mountains.
Man this makes me sad. I saw him as a 13 year old and that music changed my life. RIP Mark. My dad would always say “stop blaring that stupid glitterhorse guy”
Lol! 😂 My friend who I play Sparklehorse for sometimes, who is stuck on 70's rock music cuz that's his era, once called them "that My Little Pony band."
Thanks for the video. I have watched Mark's documentary several times. He seemed like such a kind soul. I do have a question: What is the song playing at the end? It is great.
What a thrill for you Jordan to have been in Mark's house. I'm sure he would have appreciated you remembering him. Do you know how old the house is ? Sad he couldn't beat his depression.
What's really crazy is the woman that lived in the house let me go upstairs. When I did, there was a leather jacket in the room. I asked if mark left it behind.. she said , "no, that was my sons... I heard Mark committed suicide, is that true?." I said, "yes, sadly"... then she said "so did our son..."
Thank you for replying. I'm 65 and I'm going to have a listen to Mark's music. You have paintings by Steve Keans (apology for name mixup) of the album covers don't you?
This connection you have I got with Joy Division. In Ian Curtis I think to see a young man doing his best, gets a job and marries and gets a baby. In the mean time he grows intellectually and starts to have minor succes with the music. Parallel he developes epilepsia, not too much known about treatment, medcine was more trial & error so it apears to me. To get back to the musical succes that is apparant he developes a relation with a Belgian journalist. Some say platonic some believe more. For sure he found somebody for his intellectual needs. Now with his marriage ruined, his live performances getting iffy and major US tour ahead at 23 years of age it ended in tragedy. There is a certain strange kind of beauty in it, it was no act it was real.
Great video I’m a huge fan of theirs I live in richnond and wanted to drive by the driveway to see where it is , is it 637 Perkins mill road? Thanks again
i gotta make the trip to his grave! i'm only a few hours away. I'm pretty close to hayesville nc. do you have any idea where his studio was in north carolina? i believe the person that bought marks farmhouse in virginia is a sparklehorse fan. i absolutely love sparklehorse and everything mark did. listening to sparklehorse in the hot virginia summer night is like nothing else.
Yes, the new owner of the house is a Sparklehorse fan. They commented on here somewhere. Mark's music was a special perfection that too many aren't aware of
if you ever come thru portland oregon you have to check out fred coles and andrew from dead moon, pierced aarows, the western front, the lollipop shoppe , so many bands , theyre both buried at lone fir cemetary in the heart of portland. then of course theres seattle a few hrs away with jimmi hendrix grave and where some of kurdts ashes are scattered and his final place.
@@reactionsb1 it was in Andrews NC in an old ski chalet. I won’t say the exact location because I don’t want RU-vid to take it down and out of respect. But it’s right by a place called “Deans” the studio has a green door. Most of Marks stuff from 2003 on was recorded here
❤ Beautiful. Was this the final house he lived in? I remember him talking about some house way far out that practically had it own weather system, and I think he had a more proper studio..? Do you know? Thanks! 😢
P.S..is there a way we can subscribe to find out updates on the festival? I live in the U.K..and have played in many bands playing my own music, if there was a way of coming to the U.S to play a festival at Mark's house, I could die a happy man
amazing work Jordan You don't have to do this but if you find it in your heard to help me, I would like to ask you a few questions as I'm planning a 4500 kilometer road trip to follow Mark's traces, I'm trying to find the exact location to the house and the cemetery and I'm gonna give him one of my motorcycle key on his graveside. please help me out friends! I've been working on that trip for two years now. Mark passed on my daughter's first birthday and I love them both so much thanks in advance
@@reactionsb1 omg! I am so bad at this computer thing I don’t Know how to message you!!! Were planning the road trip in october I’m gonna keep trying to get in touch with you Maybe I can find you on messenger? I Didnt even see your response until now Haha sorry about that
I can’t find you on messenger… ben dot caissie at the most obvious search engine!!! I think it’s impossible to leave an email address on RU-vid:-) Cheers!
Very interesting. I loved Vivadixie - so many sweet, sad songs on that album. I have three copies lol - two vinyl and a CD, plus the singles off it. Regarding the video, I don't get why Mark and Theresa sold the place. It was so perfect. The lady said she bought it off Mark and Theresa. Did she mean after Mark died?
Exterior of the house needs a lot of work. Interior didn't look too bad though. the surrounding buildings need TLC. Someone with some money and elbow grease could make this estate, a great peaceful hideaway! Museum for Sparkle horse.
I bought Marks old farm. It will be restored to its original glory including the exterior and pool. When the time comes, I will open it up to visitors. I’m working on getting it registered as a historical site as well.
question - There was a tribute album recorded a few years back but Mark's Estate threatened legal action if it was released. I wonder why that happened?
Yeah, I heard that too... I really don't know.. im hoping some of that changes.. his family hasn't seemed to want anything done, from what I understand. I was pressured when I posted my videos about him to take them down from people that ran his fan groups saying that his family wasn't happy that I made videos about him, but I refused to remove them. The videos are about making people aware of his music, amd not forgetting it. Lnowing his story makes the music even more powerful.. I love that apparently his brother was responsible for getting the last recordings out, so like I said, I'm hoping that their stance on marks Music and legacy will lighten up.
