In the 1940s during rationing my mother regularly received an extra ration of cold cuts, usually pressed veal, from the owners of a german pork butchers. This was given in honor of her mother who, in 1915, had saved the shop and the family from a lynch mob. My grandmother's gallantry went to feed me as a child.
Yo. Hello 'sausage' was a sort of joke/insult that me dad said when I was a kid. He grew up in Scotland Road and Kirkdale area so seen all that mayhem. Wow well done Dr. Bryce for your outstanding work. I hope this is shown in schools as part of History syllabus. Ye. X
Having only watched the first 7 minutes it dawned on me, it's a sweepstake! We have to correctly predict or estimate 'How many times he says 'pork shop,' during the 26 minutes?' Ok lol, I'm so making this up as I go along. I never even got as far as getting shoes and socks off,
I lived in Walton , the ship roads behind Queens Drive ....Mauritania , Lusitania , Saxonia , Woolhope , ....some history Liverpool , very rich at one point due to the port , from 1210
I enjoyed this documentary, I’ve actually read that book. It seems to me something that starts with commendable outrage turns into mob violence. The actual sinking of the Lusitania holds a lot of secrets, to which somebody more informed than I could shed more light upon.
I'm sorry that I've only just come across your you tube channel, I was brought up in Everton and my late father was born on scottie Road yet I never knew any of this. Thank you for sharing
Same here ,born in Everton dad born netherfield rd. No idea a ought this. Have heard of the 1911 strike . Churchill admiral of the fleet ordered the navy to point its guns at the city and heavily rumoured he withdrew the protection convoy for the lusitania in the hope if sunk it would bring America into the war
You failed to mention that the German government advised people through cinemas and papers in warmongering America against sailing on the Lusitania because it was regarded as a military ship and there fore a legitimate target of course this was denied but later confirmed to be true, why was it sailing completely unescorted? against the captains concern?
Embarrassingly tho, the German Military did tell the transatlantic passenger liners NOT to transport American weapons to Britain, and we put our own people in peril by doing so. So war time craziness was just that. And then innocent people who have not done anything to contribute towards any harm to their communities or country of residence, get treated uttery disgracefully.
