Breaking down all the meanings and references you missed behind Kendrick Lamar's first music video for his newest studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, a visual for the track N95.
My Video on Jae Ahn's Channel: • best college dorm room

At long last, Kendrick Lamar is back. The era-defining Compton rapper returns today with Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, his fifth studio album and first since 2017’s Pulitzer Prize-winning DAMN. The double LP marks Kendrick’s final project for TDE, the label he signed with as a teenager in 2003.
Mr. Morale arrives four days after Kendrick’s headline-grabbing “The Heart Part 5” single, which doesn’t appear on the album. Across the collection’s 18 tracks-which are divided into two discs-Kendrick welcomes a wide range of guests, including Blxst, Amanda Reifer, Sampha, Taylour Paige, Ghostface Killah, Summer Walker, Kodak Black, and Beth Gibbons of U.K. trip-hop pioneers Portishead. The production roster includes Sounwave, Boi-1DA, Duval Timothy, Pharrell, and OKLAMA, the new alias Kendrick has been using. The elusive MC discussed his creative process for the new album in an August 2021 blog post.
“I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts,” Lamar wrote. “Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence. I go months without a phone. Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family. While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next.”

I read somewhere that Keem kissing Kendrick actually has meaning. "He would you sell your bro for leverage" is the line that is said right before Keem kisses Kendrick. Judas kissed Jesus as a way to identify him to the Romans because he betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver

*warning * controversial * opinion* ahead* I like the video and the different takes on why/what the meaning of "kiss scene"... deeper meaning to add on to the what the hypocrites say... lets just say K Dots spiritual and religious journey is waay deeper than that of the followers of the dogma of the theologians of this time/world.. with said. Kenny is self Identified as an Aboriginal Herbrew Israelites.. has studied the bible and gets the inner/over/under-standing of sodom and gomorrah. Therefore the false jews or the synagogue of satin (look in your bible; THIS IS NOT HATE SPEECH)... would be the hypocrites being referred to in the line "what did the hypocrites say" while being kiss on his cheek by another man (cousin or not [its the visual to the msg being conveyed via the poetic express (lyrics, rhymes, melodies)]).. So from biblical perspective, the hypocrites said that its okay for man to kiss man (but thats not what GOD saaaaid) remeber WHY Sodom and Gomorrah (the world we current live in) was burt down... which coincides with name of song N95.. Once thought to protect you from catching c0v¡D... Did the Plandemic just disappear cuz 🇷🇺 is attacking 🇺🇦 (distractions, oh I mean news) what do the hypocrites say? (Are you not entertained) look here 👋👋 as the hypocrites bring ☠☠ 💉💉 to 🌍🌍..

I just realized that the “pupils on skate” line refers to his eyes struggling to keep up with the things going on in the world. But it also refers to his students (pupils) skateboarding pulling off cool tricks (like in the video), as in making impressive moves in the game. 🤯🤯🤯 Also the scene where the black child is picking the white baby could be tied to Kendrick feeling guilty about sleeping with white women in the following track on the album.
@Galaxy-rj1kj

No that’s the doll test it happened in real life and its possibly a reference to black people still not loving themselves, this album is about black trauma and pain at the core so don’t forget that
@charlieloffler4713
@charlieloffler4713 2 года назад
@@Galaxy-rj1kj You are right about the doll experiment. I was not denying that at all. I only thought that it was also in relation to Kendrick's life decisions; The doll experiment confirmed the disgusting conditioning of society by the system to believe that white skin was somehow better than dark skin. I just also interpreted that it was on Kendrick's mind when recounting his infidelity and that his actions were either as a release of spite or vengeance against white people and the system and/or a separation from his own struggles i.e. escapism into the elitist culture the racist system created. Either way, the allusion highlights how deeply damaging racism is in terms of generational trauma. It's a theme throughout his entire discography but, in this album, he puts that issue in an extremely vulnerable context of him coming face to face with his own mistakes and trauma.

4:40 It also feels like this row of chairs looks like an illusion, where he’s at the top of this stack of chairs only for a tragic accident (car flying by) to knock a few over and break that illusion It may seem like he’s at the top and unfazed, but at the end of the day, he’s just in line (hence the doctors office line of chairs type shit). Eventually another car will come by and hit him just like everyone else
@houseofbreadministries
@houseofbreadministries 8 месяцев назад
The scene of him reading the paper while the car is crashing in front of him while not looking faded is a depiction of how the industry and society is copying LA gang culture and are crashing out. Making a mockery of his reality. And he is not faded by it. That's why he is dressed as a late 1970s early 1980s LA gangster. The name Big Steppers was used in the early times as a description of gangster. That's why track number 3 is called the Worldwide Steppers.

Damn, this breakdown was awesome! Thank you. I think the mirror breaking scene can be interpreted in many ways, perhaps as him shattering his false vision of himself as well. And perhaps in the early scene where he is working out, it relates to the themes on the album about working on himself through therapy. And then once again where he is holding the bird, it might show how he feels boxed in by the perception of himself by the world and eventually decides to let it go. This view relates to the lyrics on Crown as well.

Something i've realized that's a theme of the entire album is that kendrick simultaneously portrays himself as Jesus, or the savior, and as cain by referring to his son as enoch, the son of cain. I think that the betrayal that is constantly being brought up is Kendrick, and also Keem, choosing to preserve their own mental health and sanity instead of being the savior/figurehead of the black community. Someone else said this part in a comment, but the biggest way that Keem is characterized as a traitor like Kendrick is how he's portrayed as Judas by kissing Kendrick like how Judas did before he betrayed Jesus. It's also stated in another part of the album that Keem has been laying low and working on himself after his success, I just don't remember exactly where that was said.

But honestly I fear in the long run it won't be brought or played as it should because of what he and it represents. But the breakdown seems to be spot on as to what the song represents and how Mr.Lamar is being asked to lead when he clearly states that he need work himself. It's stunning how he looks inside himself and is willing to bare himself in order to fix himself and take responsibility for his own actions. Thank you as well Sir for your work on this piece.

N95 is also a type of mask, not sure if he is trying to say something about covid in general with the opening like, maybe the song and album are about him taking off the mask and showing his true self? I dunno.

The scene with the pigeons and him doing burpees is a reference to Mike Tyson.

The kissing scene is a reference to how close Judah is , and how unexpected the betrayal happens. Just as kanye , kendrick also try to get sued by his cousin

The part where Kendrick Lamar says "when you sold your bro for leverage" is the part where Baby Keem kisses him on the cheek just like Judas did when he betrayed Jesus
