In Thailand's glorious rainy-season daily rainbow full of green, make your way through some small alleys to find this restaurant in the humid mist, a chorus of birds (I'm not exaggerating :) )... sing with the birds after this stunning Isaan meal, and kudos to you for successfully finding this restaurant! Thanks to ‪@footimetraveler‬ for the recommendation, and for joining us this day - thank you for watching, I'm sure you'll enjoy this video!
Its a great day any time having purely local food like this with your friends, but this restaurant specifically should be on your mind when you're wanting one of the best versions of OXTAIL SOUP, as well as her stunning plates of SOM TAM LAOS, any time you're in the Esaan region of Thailand.
Today, we're in Khon Kaen, happy to have you join us for an amazing meal, in this small home of truly incredible food - Grandma's Oxtail Soup, at Raan Soop Hang Wua. Khon Kaen, Thailand, near the entrance to the Decho Chai Rat soldier camp (off the Maliwan Highway 12, near the KK airport road flyover).
LOCATION INFO:
Raan Soop Hang Wua - Khon Kaen, Thailand
Google Maps - goo.gl/maps/8c...
Incredible restaurant, every item on the menu is impressive.
Full size fire pots from 200 baht each, non-soup dishes range from 40-80 baht.
Vector Coffee Roaster - Khon Kaen, Thailand
Google Maps - goo.gl/maps/vT...
Items range from 50-80 baht, they have some food items as well, and they
have a HUGE selection of beans roasted in-house, most of them local
varieties (from around Northern Thailand).

@Joel Bruner - Hi Joel. That unknown herb you showed is called Fish Mint/Bishop's weed /fish wort in English. It's found throughout Southeast Asia and Northeast India. We love it here in Northeast India and is usually eaten raw with rosted fermented fish & chilly.

@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 4 года назад
Sorry about that Nikki, I am starting to see your comments and... try to understand a little bit, and please correct me if Im wrong, if I am assuming too much here - I think that because many people have now followed me from Marks awesome channel, that theres some assumption that my channel is also a food channel. I spend many hours a week writing for Mark as well, entirely about food, for my job, but my own RU-vid channel is not a food-only channel. I care mostly about the people making the food, and in the moment that Im filming, there's only one shot that can be taken at a time. And I am waiting for the human shot, the relationship shot, because thats where my heart is. If theres free time, then I totally will get a few shots of the food (sorry if you are left hanging, like in this video, but on a side note oxtail needs to cook for hours and hours, every soup was definitely finished cooking long before we arrived). I hope this doesnt let you down in any way today Nikki :) and thank you for continuing to write me, I easily recognize your name now because I have been trying to think how to lovingly respond to... comments, for which theres really no answer to!
@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 4 года назад
and the coffee also, there was no process to be seen, all the coffee is produced from the 2nd location... which is why I want to go and visit that place! And then yes, there will be a showing-of-the-process type video :)

Do you have any Jamaican restaurants/takeaways near you? I’m from the UK but the Jamaican places here seem to have oxtail available all year round. It’s also available in most butchers. Funny thing about oxtail is that up until maybe the past 10yrs oxtail was considered a throwaway cut of meat and very very cheap like pennies. Now it’s grown in popularity it’s become very expensive 😠

Hello Joel! Oxtail soup is truly one of my favorites. The extremely herbaceous broth so soothing when you have a cold. It soothes a stuffy nose and sore throat. Love your videos. Keep them coming ❤️

I love it Eugenio, a fellow curious investigator of the 'other' options in meat animals. I have always loved this about Thai food, and now I love it about any other country which does these kind of dishes... to me its just respecting life so much more!

Hi Joel, how did you learn Thai? At a Thai language school? How long did it take you to become fluent in Thai? Thanks
@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 4 года назад
Hi Kevin, great to see you commenting - for Thai language, its going to be tough for non-tonal language speakers, but you can do it! A lot of hours are needed for any language, and the best way is full immersion. Thats how I did it, no classes, just walking around and meeting Thai people - and I also bought some childrens books to learn to read and write immediately as well. It made the amount of material to learn even more, but in the end it gave me many more tools to use all along the way. Good luck!

@@JoelsTastyRide - I'm actually Thai-American and my second language is Thai. I'm about 80% fluent but I still need improving. I asked because I'm trying to become fluent in Spanish. I live in Southern California, so the second language here is Spanish. I'm about 60% fluent, and I needed some tips to become 100% fluent. I've taken 4 years of Spanish in high school but that was over 20 years ago! I'm trying to get back into the language.

I am simply dying to have a real, authentic papaya salad. But I live in the USA. ☹️. I was lucky enough to have an amazing oxtail consúme in Mexico! I just think you’re awesome Joel! Great content, quality video, and one of the best, sweetest, knowledgeable , and respectful video presenters. 👍🏻🙌🏻💕
