The gear ratio on 4th gear auto is 0.7 as opposed to 1 on manual 5th gear, which means cruising on 4th gear auto is more efficient than manual 5th gear. Too bad you can’t control the gear while accelerating, the rpm goes too high before it shift (in auto)

Hey thanks for watching and reaching out. Haha... Not true! The Jimny is made for the hills and off road, folks are still learning to drive these cars - the Jimny has more than adequate power for the hills and such terrains - its tuned at high rpms for max power and torque and its light weight is big plus too! It just lacks high speeds - comfortable till 120 Kmph can go to 145 Kmph max but its a struggle. Hope that helps 👍

This video is to demonstrate that you have the best of both worlds, since you chose the automatic - stuff that will come in handy when you are not only driving in the city but also in a different and more challenging setting, assuming that since you have bought a Jimny, you haven’t bought it just for the city, as that is not its natural habitat. The 3-door unfortunately hasn't been introduced in India, and its not on the cards either - although if I am not wrong, it is made here (also in Japan) and exported to other countries - I have heard from a lot of folks that if they had the option, they would have bought the 3 door Jimny! While I am driving a stock Jimny and feel that its more than adequate for my kind of driving - I am aware or Tanabe, Ironman and Dr. Nano mod kits but not in a position to recommend one over the others - Hope this helps! It’s my first time with the black color too and I had the same apprehensions! I have faced no problem so far and I bought my car in peak summers. The AC is very powerful too, so that helps! I think the only time we will have a problem is when the car I parked in the sun for too long and then you have to get in and drive! Of all the Jimny Colors offered in India, I only like the black, grey and red! Hope that helps 👍🏽

As regards your query, if you are in a situation where you need to get into 4WD, the logical sequence is something like this, depending on your need at that moment: Shift to 4H and in D, then to 2 and then to L, if that doesn’t help then slot it into 4L and in D and then to 2 and then L if required. You will have the max power and torque at 4L / L. You can of course jump steps depending on what you feel will be most appropriate at that time and a lot of it will come from experience, once you have been in a few of these situations and once you understand the capabilities of your Jimny. Thank you for watching and for your comments! I am on OEM / Stock tyres, my Jimny has run 12k approx and 3 services with one engine oil change (16w0) done, I maintain 30 psi. I consistent get 12.5-12.7 KPL in city driving, about 14 on Highways and 9.5-9.7 - on Uphill / off road - Mine is an Alpha auto, I normally drive alone and my AC remains on all the time. It works flawlessly on my car and I haven’t heard about this before so can’t say what could be the issue here. Might be worthwhile to bring it to Suzuki’s attention on next service 👍🏽

Good question but they couldn't have, as the Jimny is the only car in the Maruti Suzuki stable that has a longitudinal engine and a rear wheel drive set up, while all their other cars are transverse engines and front wheel drive. The AGS is directly mounted on the transmission, which is possible in the transverse set-up. In the Jimny, the transmission further towards the back and the differential is in the rear. This is exactly what I do on our Ignis AGS, whenever I see that the traffic signal timer is 60+ seconds, and obvo=iously in a traffic jam. There is no P mode in Ignis AGS gear stick

I am not sure if we can or should change gears when on move, in an automatic Jimny ! I haven’t tried and I haven’t had the need to do that! So short answer, don’t know yet! When you are in 4H or 4L you can drive in any gear D, 2 or L - which one will depend on where or on what terrain, gradient or road condition, you are driving in! Hope that helps, cheers 👍🏽.

Overdrive is still a gear (or gears) often with a ratio lower than 1:1 which means that the output is greater than the input and therefore low engine rpms gives higher speeds with the overdrive engaged. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Simply put: OD remains on or engaged by default - only then will your car go into the 4th gear with OD off, it will be restricted till 3rd gear only! You should turn off OD for: overtaking on the highway when you need more power suddenly or in heavy traffic so that the car the car does not shift to 4th and then gear up again when you brake, that may give you better fuel efficiency - with OD off, the RPMs will be higher and the more power will be available at short notice, almost instantly. Drive in 2High in L, should be adequate - the hill hold works well on the Jimny. However if the gradient is very high and road slippery causing loss of traction, you can shift to 4High and that should do the trick. Be careful, cheers and good luck 👍

Yes, you can drive in 4L but only on off road / mud / slush, snow etc. like I have explained in detail in the video, please note that driving in 4L on normal roads will damage it! You can be in any gear when in 4L, depends on how much power you need to traverse that terrain. Hope that helps - good luck, cheers👍

You dont need to, just keep pressing the brake on D mode as it has auto start stop feature.

The beauty of AT is that you don't need to change gears often! In stop and go traffic you will use your brake in D and if it's a long stop and you need to keep the engine running, you will shift to N & engage the handbrake if required, like the road has and incline etc... and you can rest your foot. P is only used when you have to do what it stands for "Parking" 😊. Hope that helps 👍

Good question! I haven't compared it specifically, but it has to be that way as the gear ratios in a 5 speed will be lower compared to a 4 speed and therefore the RPMs will be lower in a 5 speed comparatively. Hope that helps, Cheers👍

You are very welcome 😊. No it doesn’t have lights but there are enough and easy to install after market options if you want to add lights! You really don’t need it too, you can see the gear in the MID if you are new to the automatic and once you are used to the gear shift, you will not feel it’s absence at all, as it will become instinctive, good luck 👍🏽

On the practical side, i don't see a scenario that would require 2L specifically, what with 4WD available on demand! I also think that today's new "off-roader" neither has the patience nor the appreciation for old world tech, unfortunately! You are right that the Nexa folks are not completely on top of the features but they are partially right on the 4WD engagement, the 4H can be engaged on the fly, when your speeds are UNDER 100 kmph as per the owner's manual, but 4L engagement is strictly on a stationary vehicle in Neutral. @@handsonwithbabbar I use the 2L when I need to crawl at very low speed on non slippery road surface, dry bumpy fields, very badly surfaced roads where in 2H, 1st gear at around 2000+ rpm is too fast to drive. In your video at 12.35 seconds you correctly quote Maruti "You should not use 4H or 4L on normal road unless they are slippery (dry dirt road is not considered slippery), it can damage the 4wd system". You must have noticed on the roads in 4H or 4L you cannot do a sharp turn or U turn, the Gypsy/Jimny feels as though the brakes are being applied progressively as you go into the turn. To avoid this problem in the Gypsy/Jimny while using the lower gearing (L) of transfer case on non slippery roads, the free wheeling hubs in early version of the Gypsy would be kept in 'Free' position. Another advantage of the 'free wheeling hubs' in the early Gypsy was in 2H the front differential was not engaged. Maruti did away with the Free wheeling hubs when they realised that majority of gypsy owners did not know about the 'free wheeling hubs' since they had not read the Owners manual.

It means that the Overdrive I.e OD is not engaged! The car will only operate between 1st to the 3rd gear only, it will not go to the 4th, if the OD is off! Hope that helps!

There is gear lever position called P for Park, unless you are asking me a trick question 😉. The only thing to take care is that you stop and put the gear lever in P and then engage the Hand brake and not the other way round, Hope that helps.

When you press the accelerator down hard, the engine knows you need more power and it gears down and you get more speed and you can overtake, you can also use the O/D off feature and get more power, hope that helps, Cheers 👍

Not quite sure what the point you are driving home with your comment, but good for you that you know everything about AT and No whatever I have explained does not come in all AT cars, so don’t agree there, there are many nuances that a Jimny AT has that are not there in many other AT cars but you know that already. I have talked about 4X4 too in this video, may be you skipped that bit! Yup I was new to AT and I said so in so many words in the video, so no mystery there bro! The fact however is that thousands of people have watched and benefited from the video, even folks who have been driving AT for years have commented that they learnt few new things and hundreds of them have thanked me in the comments, so new or not it’s certainly super relevant and that’s what matters in the end, isn’t it! Haha - like I say Maruti themselves don’t know the gem they are making - Suzuki Jimny service is poorly rated across the globe- in India they botched up the launch with greedy pricing then lost the plot and are discounting it heavily… you are right, you will have to be proactive and ever vigilant when your car goes for service… but to be fair, you have to do that for all cars and dealerships, here the challenge is that, Jimny Specific mechanics are very few and they are also learning at our expense!
