I'm honestly so happy that Hideo Kojima isn't with Konami anymore. They were holding him back, and they only care about making money. Kojima is an artist, and one who deserves more appreciation for his work than what the jerks at Konami gave him.

Never enjoyed metal gear personally but I give all the respect in the world to this guy he changed the game of gaming and he forever has my respect for that

That was an incredible speech from Geoff. Emotions running wild, you can tell by his shaky voice that this means the world to him. Hideo also looked like he was holding back tears. This is a legendary moment in gaming history in my opinion.

As much as the Game Awards has turned into a bs corporate cluster fuck in recent times, this is still one of the coolest moments in it’s history

Absolutely well deserved. This a a guy who works and creates when he does not agree with something (not complaints, whines or boycotts). And in the end he creates, for many, incredible things. As a community, we should learn a lot from guys like this on this generation.

I don’t think the younger generation will understand just how much of an influence this man has made not on the gaming scene, but on the creative industry as a whole. Award winning filmmakers have ranked his creative genius and amazing storytelling on the same level as Kubrick and Fellini (and I’m not exaggerating on that). His vision for storytelling is just on a completely different plain. It’s such a honor to be alive to watch his creative work evolve over the past 2 decades.

there is something abut geoff trying his hardest to not break down on stage. idk why i mean we made our jokes about him over the years the doritos pic ect but around that time saw a picture of him as a teenager with gabe newell and i do think he is a guy who cares about his chosen profession

Kojima is an inspiration, and not just to video game designers. The man is an artist, the closest one can probably be to an auteur in AAA games. Saw this on my recommended sidebar, and had to rewatch it yet again. Shit makes me cry.

Kojima FTW. Always. The MGS solid francise is such a big part of my life to this day. Thank you Kojima for everything you have done. We all love and appreciate your work. May you continue to thrive in this industry as you well deserve. It kills me that Metal Gear is trapped with Konami. This still bothers me.

This was a very sweet award to a very deserving guy, but am I missing something here? As far as I know, Konami parted ways with Kojima after he finished making MGS5, but the way Geoff is talking about it he makes it sound like they killed his wife and kids and then kicked his dog to death?! What exactly happened to deserve this level of melodrama, or is he just doing it to give people something to talk about at his game awards?
