RDR2: fast travel costs irl money, literally 300 hours of grinding to unlock a horse, 80% of the game is horse riding... and worst of all, it can't pronounce boy right.
@@sil5429 if you say TGA 2015 by The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V and Super Mario Maker is better, I will 100% agree with that. But 2017? Nah, way less competitive.
God of War, Celeste, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Detroit Become Human were unique experiences to me. Ones of the best story telling games. 2018 is the best year imo
I was a little disappointed that they didn’t show no love to Christopher Judge or any of the actors in the back. They deserved some love on that stage for their excellent work.
I just saw the “Raising Kratos” documentary and the amount of time and work they put into this game was unreal. They deserved every award they earned at the show.
@@drasticturnip891 It makes sense considering GOW is polished, have a lot of content and is overall a fantastic game while on the other hand, RDR2 has nothing outside of the story other than beautiful environments which would take less than 7 years
@@ishanramen5254 wtf u mean a lot of content? It's fkin 1 way game when RDR2 is a huge open world. GOW is game for 1 time, RDR2 u playing much better time and u have a lot of things to do even after storymode, and after all it has online game, u will spend your life playing RDR2, so wtf u mean about GOW content? Lmao I can't believe people really thinks GOW is better, I have feeling that they didn't even played RDR2 bruh
EA: “Single Player games are a dying trend for stupid people” God of War: Wins Game of the Year AND outsells every single EA game in 2018. Edit: I was mistaken. It outsold MOST EA games, but not all.
@@gorus6996 the only thing redeeming to rdr2 is its phenominal story. I am a huge red dead fan but i was so god damn dissapointed to see what happened to red dead.
I'm proud of Celeste. For an indie platformer to be held to the same regard as RDR2, God of War, and Spider-Man. I've beaten Celeste, and it is a wonderful (and rage inducing) experience.
Yes! I was thinking the same. For a small indie game to be up there with the AAA titles is no small feat... PS: I never raged while playing Celeste because every time I died it was of a mistake I did lol no cheese deaths
@Skitz0frenix that's why I love god of war, never felt cheese, it was me messing up timing, sometimes it feel like you can't breath on give me gow but that's gow baby, u gotta have fast reflexes n use all ur kit to the max.
Wow that Orchestra absolutely stole the show. Mixing the theme songs like that was masterful. I love how the composer of God of War, Bear Mcreary, was there too to witness them integrate his music into their performance.
I hate how people argue over micro transactions, It’s one of the only ways for companies to make money. As while they make micro transactions not pay2 win than that game really doesn’t have problems. Some games offer micro transactions only for cosmetic and wouldn’t affect the gameplay etc. Isn’t it boring without online? Hanging with friends and stuff. Err... DLCs are usually good, They are just content that doesn’t give advantage either I only agree with the micro transaction part. But not all games who has micro transactions would need you to pay to win. Edit: It seems many people getting triggered over me saying “kids” I changed it to people.
@@bruh_3139... Im not a kid :-) I have 32, and I grow up with PlayStation, when videogames were "complete" Without DLC and others stuff. This is only my opinion. Have a nice day ✌
@@UnGa11o lol :-) I dont hate online but I dont like when people dont care about a videogame if it dosent have online mode. (sorry for bad english :-))
God of war is one of the best game I've ever played, But RDR2 deserves the award. Rdr 2 is too much! Exceeded all my expectations! Rockstar games at its finest
@@automaticpinionWinning an award is meaningless in the long run. I’m sure the devs don’t care as long as the fans enjoyed them. They’re wildly beloved game that had massive heart, no need to diss one to praise another.
If God Of War 2018 won, God of War Ragnarok is surely going to win. There will be no competition, B O Y ! Unless Rockstar decides to asspull read dead 3 or gta 6, Santa Monica has it in the bag
And now 4 years later, Ragnarok is upon us and it back for its GOTY award with its staggering 10 nominations this year! Wonderful game and the team deserves all the praise for the game they created this time around
@@Kagetora- And you were right, Elden Ring is an amazing game and it ended up winning! I was okay with either game winning since both coming out in the same year is a win for gamers
EA and Microsoft: “Single Player Story Driven Games aren’t as popular these days.” 2018 Game of the Year goes to a PlayStation Exclusive game that is a Single Player Story Driven Experience. Mic drop!
@@UltimateCarDrawer567 RDR2 is probably the most detailed game in gaming still almost 5 years later. There is a reason it has over 275 Perfect Scores and 175 Game of the Year Awards.
Rdr2- Single Player focused GoW-Totally Single Player Celeste-Totally Single Player Spiderman-Totally Single Player AC Odyssey-Single Player... EA-Single Player Games Are Dead..😅
@@asmit4166 Yeah, all orchestras were great (except Monster Hunter World, I found it only ok), but I found that the electric guitars were out of place sometimes
2010: Red Dead Redemption took game of the year tittle and defeated God of War 3 2018: God of War takes REVENGE! In the end its a draw between the two franchises
John Carlo Cruz mood I have played both games so I’m not being biased. While you probably only watched gameplay and haven’t experienced the full game...
God of War is proof that you don't need overpriced dlcs and microtransactions to make a good game, one of the few new gen games that didn't ruin the gaming experience . *EDIT*: To everyone in the comments saying it's about profits, what I meant is most AAA games now have dlcs and microtrasactions, I don't mind microtransactions when it's just for cosmectics, but I hate buying a game only to be forced to buy more dlcs for the full story or even worst the full ending e.g FF15, it's ridiculous !
these comments are starting to get gay af. The majority of GOTY titles have been single-players, and there's nothing wrong with DLC or microtransactions as long as it's done tastefully. Did Zelda BOTW stop existing? Every single nominee was a singleplayer game.
@@paroxysm_brian7817 Thats probably because single player games have more developed stories, characters, and more room to appreciate the amazing soundtracks, multiplayer games like cod and fortnite are mindless and are more like a time vampire for most people.
Coronavirus םֹןשתֵר But it’s amazing for Celeste to be the only indie game in the nominations against AAA games. They did not win but it’s amazing that they are contending don’t you agree?
I remember watching Cory Barlog in BTS of God of War 2 in 2009 or something He is definitely only of the goats of creativity. Ragnarok 2022 was amazing -I just loved all the realms and how things work in this game. Thank you for an incredible decade ❤
Dudee Nah, they said something about linear campaigns not being as popular as some years ago anymore. The whole "sp games are dying!" thing is from some Forbes journalist.
That was awesome. I liked how they changed the music to fit in with the game that was being shown on the screen, but they did it with their own musical sound to it...
Still upsets me all these years later. A game with so much detail and time put into it, that will be remembered forever and will go down as one of the best of all time, and got snubbed for game of the year smh. RDR2 still lives on, nobody even remembers GoW
xKarma _ True, I prefer RDR2 but GOW deserves it because their game is much more polished and doesn’t include an online that’s fueled by micro transactions
Austin Shepperd Try playing RDO if you have it. In the first day you’ll see that everything is overpriced and it’s a constant grind for money. I’ve been playing for a week since it was out for the public on Friday and I’ve been grinding more than actually having fun. Rockstar already said there is going to be micro transactions and the economy is terrible which is just going to encourage people to pay for in game money because they dont want to grind. I shit you not there’s shirts that are level 60 and once you get to level 60 it still costs 30-40 dollars
GoW4 winning the award is a victory of true gamers. No controversies, no 10 ultimate editions, no lootboxes, no xp throttling, no forced diversity. Just pure joy, and that is what gaming should be about.
Dude it's just 5 years of work and a mediocre story at best. Can't even commprehend how did it won Game of the year against RDR2 that took 7 years of work
Bro I remember watching this in 2018 and today I cried after the orchestration, that was so good, something that makes us understand that we have something to look forward to. God of War was totally deserving considering Spiderman, RRD2 and AC Odyssey was there.
@@whatif7351It’s very unlikely TLOU2 will be nominated or will win. That game has had to much controversy. I’m glad you enjoyed the game tho cause not many people like it(including myself).👌
@@el_martinez3275 The controversy doesn't matter at all, I mean, look at the critics reviews, Game Awards doesn't really take people opinions, that explain pretty much why overwatch won over uncharted 4
@@charliemurphypendleton1071 In my opinion, i wanted any story-driven based game out of the Game of the Year nominees in which GoW won. Congrats to them
I remember being shocked by God of war winning since i was primarily a Xbox gamer with my ps4 being a glorified paper weight at the time but then eventually last year i finally decided to play God of war and it is very deserving of the award! The boss battles, the story and the whole world are perfection! Its a fantastic experience
It kind of blows my mind that the sequel to both these games was 8 years in the making, respectively, and that they would both compete for the GotY award again.
This year was amazing for games. We shouldn’t make fun of those who lost. And those whose favourite game lost should not be angry. For we are all winners today, because as gamers we experience the best there is.
MrDVB it was only a small number of really high quality games that made up for the rest being absolute disappointments. I think 2019 will be better. Personally I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, The Outer Worlds, Metro: Exodus, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Doom: Eternal, Rage 2, Wasteland 3, Far Cry: New Dawn, Anthem, Code Vein, Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and Scorn.
SmøøthBrëêžÿ I'm on PC but I'm gonna have to get a PS4 because there's too many exclusives. I already missed out on God of War, Spider Man, and Red Dead. No reason whatsoever to buy an Xbox though because even Halo is coming to PC now.
