I just wanted to share my views on tweaks. I am in no way an expert with tweaks so feel free to disagree respectfully and contribute.
It is fun to talk about other stuff besides stereo so I wanted to share with you my experience with Wasabi chips and pork chop chips.

I went to an Audiosolutions event at a dealer, and the rep stated, and then demonstrated how starting a CD transport using a remote doesn't sound as good as pressing play on the player itself, and there was a noticeable difference. It's pretty amazing, but if you consider electronical noise, I can kinda see it.

I think the isolators make the power amps look even nicer, and at that level it can't just be about how it sounds, but also how it makes you feel. That said, I've always doubted the value of isolation on solid state products with no moving parts. Speakers, turntables and products with vacuum tubes is a whole different story.

I recently purchased Isoacoustics Aperta speaker isolation platform and inserted it between my KEF LS50s and its floor stands. Definitely there is a change and side effects, which might not be positive in other setups, but in my case it tamed down a 100 Hz resonance and improved high frequency details with added height. I also got SVS SoundPath feet for my REL subs and they made low bass a bit faster and tighter. Not a huge improvement, but for the price well worth the money.

I recommend putting a wasabi chip on a speaker cabinet. I think, the sound will be more resolving... ?? And you can easily A/B Test it - or with 1, 2 or 3 chips... The only thing is: Not to eat the chips after A/B testing, because you cannot repeat a result ;-) (I assume that each chip has it`s own sound-signature??)

HRS | IsoAcoustic Footers along with the ones from Shun Mook, are amongst the best I’ve heard or owned. I do agree with you these much like the proper balanced pair of IC’s, are both where ones journey should end. But in truth.........., it all begins with ones selection of AC Outlets ( Oyaide | Furutech are the only options that matter ) and AC Cords, show you just what any given piece of gear is truly capable of, it’s only when said devices are chosen properly, does one gain a sense of correctness.

Thomas, I need your guidance for tweaks. I have S400 on the Monolith 28 Inch Speaker Stand filled with sand. The stand is on the second floor carpet with no spikes(because I was worry about potential damage to the floor since they are sharp). While my friends and I listen to bassy music, we can feel the vibration in our feet and body, from the floor which we supposed it channels through the stands all the way to our position, we kind of like it. Also the height is at about the ear level already. If I get the fancy stand feet you friend has, what change will that possibly bring? I can afford it but just that after all, the feets are about $300 usd if I am not mistaken.
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 4 года назад
I am not an expert in that but usually when I decouple the speakers from the floor ,I get tighter bass but less bass weight. So what you like right now with the vibration, you might lose it. Why not put them on spikes and put like a penny or quarter underneath each spikes so it does not damage your floor and give it a try?
@shawnwu9529

@@ThomasAndStereo It is excellent suggestions that I have never thought of. I will give that a try. The effect of putting a penny for the spike might just give me the same effect as using the fancy feet. Again, thank you so much for helping me to improve. :-)

Those chips, while good on their own, sometimes need tweaking. It does, however, come down to personal taste. For example, a bit of salsa, or even onion dip. Sometimes what works for one chip doesn't work for another. Even the ingredients of the tweaks makes a difference -- what kind of onion is used in the onion dip, hmmm?? Also, sometimes the tweak is more than the chip itself! Can you believe it? Also, I can't believe how inflated these chips and tweaks can be. Those freaking greedy chip manufacturers! I mean, I can DIY by buying the ingredients (potatoes) and add spices. And even which oil you cook it in changes the flavor, and the texture. Or airfrying. (I know, that's thinking out of the box.) And one has to be careful about how the chips are packaged -- plastic has a subtle effect on the flavor of paper-based packaging. Hey, just cause YOU can't taste the difference doesn't mean I can't taste the difference. Plus the design of the chips matter -- it's physics. There's the flat chip and then there's the chip with ridges, and the ridges contain far more surface area to hold the flavors, so they explode more than the flat chip. Vintage chips -- the flat ones -- are awesome, but really, can they compete with the latest manufacturing processes? I don't think so. Anyway, what a hobby, amirite?!

Hi Thomas, Do you know why ELAC stopped selling ADANTE speakers? I was obsessively enthusiastic about them, I even saved enough money to buy these., and then, suddenly I se a lot of red lights: insane drop price in musicdirect.com, everything about them deleted in ELAC.COM. Obviously something is happening here. Thanks.

I would guess it simply did not sell well. I have the Pioneer S3EX also designed by Andrew Jones that did not sell well. Just because it did not sell well does not mean it is no good. If you like them, then you are in luck because they are heavily discounting them. Another good example would be Polk LSIM 707, did not sell well at MSRP because no one considered Polk as a serious speaker. I can assure you, it sounds fantastic.

Thomas What about those Raidho's? I have a lot of friend audiophiles who always tell me that bass from large woofer (like 12-15 inches) cannot be matched by multiple woofers which are 'small' like 16-17 or 20cm in diameter. Those Raidho's are like that with 'smallish' bass woofers so I wonder how they sound and if it is true about 'big woofer/big bass' theory/rule/stereotype please? Many thanks
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 4 года назад
I think there is no substitute for size and forsure the power coming from a large driver will not be the same. The Raidho have diamond coated woofers so they are really stiff. As a result, they are fast and really punchy. They will go really low although on paper they drop down to 30hz only. Lots of definition with the bass and strangely, I feel they have more power than some of the system I have heard despite those systems having dual 15 inch subs. You really need to hear these Raidho with amps that have a lot of power to really appreciate them. Now, for us normal mortals who can't afford $50k+ speakers, getting a speaker with bigger woofers if definitely the way to go provided you have the space and can pass your wife approval. The only issue is speed. With bigger drivers, they are not as fast and as tight.
@arkadiuszmikina4563
@arkadiuszmikina4563 4 года назад
@@ThomasAndStereo so from what you are saying: if one has the money, top of the line Raidhos (and GamuTs maybe?), even though they have "smaller" woofers, can surprise or even surpass much much bigger woofers. But if one doesn't have (that much) money, bigger woofers are better right?

6:00 If the sound of an amplifier changes dramatically from the addition of feet I think one can confidently state that there is something seriously flawed with the amplifier. For an electronic component with no moving parts to be so susceptible to a minute vibration is a major failure.

I couldn't agree more Justin. Getting the speakers best situated and getting the speakers set up for the acoustics of both the speakers AND room working together optimal is crucial. Something way TOO many people seem to entirely not understand. So instead they read and fall for marketing wank, and spend more cash to try to remedy sometimes trivial problems. The room essentially becomes a part of the speaker. Getting them to work synergistically is crucial. Even if that is simply slightly moving the speaker positioning, throwing down a rug and maybe a heavy wall hanging like an embroidery and moving a bookcase to a more useful position. Even simple stuff can transform the sound in a particularly problematic environment.

@rationalmartian
@rationalmartian 4 года назад
It seems to me if a bloody speaker is needing bricks on top, it has been poorly designed and built. Better for the weight to be naturally IN the speaker enclosure build itself. In other words a better more robustly built cabinet. Then again, the vast majority of speakers that are not ridiculously expensive esoterica tend to be insubstantial and poorly done. This is understandable for cheap tat, but not for speakers costing a few grand. Lobbing weight on top will also do nothing to stop the colourations from the side cheeks resonating like a drumskin. Or the baffle and rear, depending on speaker cab shape. The biggest panels being most problematic. I'm not even going to go into the quality of the crossover and internals. I'm not against tweeks as such. I just tend to think there is far too much marketing wank and bullshit. I also suspect the placebo effect is heavily involved. I should really think that they should only be needed for cheaper gear, to remedy faults. PLUS, many can very often be done oneself, for little, or sometimes NO cost. But that doesn't play well in the bragging rights stakes I suppose.

@ohjoy40
@ohjoy40 4 года назад
You have the right idea about tweeks or mods. Is it better or just different ? Often people hear differences but dont listen to the full range of the music and focus on one aspect of the music. oh I hear more midrange or i hear more of the snare drum, but what is it doing to the rest of the music. I have a client that has made tweeks and mods to his system and asked me to evaluate it only to tell him it did not improve the sound. Then I take it out and he goes oh yea it is better without it. So you have to have good ears, use a wide range of music, you cannot tune a system to play that one cd or album perfectly, huge mistake. Over time you learn what tweeks or mods have a chance to make some good improvements and which dont. One of the big mistakes is acoustical treatment. you cannot position speakers with acoustical treatment in the room. The room must be naked with only the furniture that will be in the room all the time. Then play with speaker placement and ou will notice when you have speakers close to or in the optimum position you will hear the least amount of interaction with the room. Essentially tuning the room out and minimizing the coloration from the room into the music. Once you have speaker placement dialed in, THEN you can strategically place acoustical treatment to fine tune the sound. But if you go into the process of thinking damping is good your sadly mistaken. You want reflections, you just need them to be delayed. The problem with damping is it will rob the system of dynamics speed and extension, and it will color the sound because damping creates comb filtering effects. essentially absorbing certain areas of the sound spectrum which then emphasizes others. Acoustics and room treatment is a art and must be done carefully to get the best results. Another thing I am not a fan of is AC filtering. I have yet heard a line conditioner that I feel truly improves the sound. i believe in dedicated lines and lines that are run properly with the right wire, shielding and conduit. AC outlets also make a difference. But yes overall tweeks and mods are trial and error and should be played with and evaluated carefully to determine if its truly improving the sound or just adding its own coloration to the music.

My only concern is that the cold wet environment would be bad for my stereo equipment. In fact, the cold wet environment required for optimum wasabi growth would be rather uncomfortable in general. Turntables may need isolating due to feedback through the needle. I’m not convinced Mr Vintage is being real Thomas. Wanting something to be true often biases us to experience it to be true. You can help him out by being his honest broker and give him a blind listening test for some “tweaks”. Remember what PT Barnum said.

I got the Gaia ... in my system it does work. Not just because of change in height. It’s not a huge difference but it’s audible. ROI? Baaaaad. 😬 I just tried Chicken Rice flavored chips. Was kinda weird. 😂🤣

Thomas & Stereo ... I got the Bright Star Isonodes. Half sphere sorbothane like stuff between speaker and stand. If we believe in decoupling the this is good enough. Zero vibration can be felt on the stand’s vertical pillars. By the way ... Gong Hei Fatt Choy!!!

Tweaks are the dark side of being audiophile. For the ultimate tweaks, upgrade capacitors and wires in the audio components and speakers.
@amirjubran1845
@amirjubran1845 4 года назад
Crossover upgrades are definitely more than a tweak, especially on a higher priced speaker. I have M30.1 Harbeths and find the 30.2 to be much more neutral sounding with less warmth in the bass region. As far as I know, the biggest difference between those 2 models is the crossover components.
