A thorough comparison of two hifiman headphone of about the same price. Bluetooth and USB set aside, which sounds better wired to a high-end amp? apos.audio/collections/brand-...
Thanks so much for this, I decided to buy Sundara 2022 rev instead of Diva Pro for me, because I didn't use Bluetooth that much because I already have B&O Beoplay EX for that.
You're a really good reviewer compared to other mainstream reviewers, I just discovered this channel today because I have the sundara and also planning to buy the Deva pro
Thanks for the nice video. I have the sonarworks SoundID program which tries to correct the frequencies of headphones. I was wondering how those 2 compare with the SoundID correction. Best wishes from Berlin
I have the Sennheiser HD650. I'd love the portability of the Deva Pro. But I'm also wanting something with more detail and a wider sound stage. Does the Deva provide this?
Have you tried using TRRS 3.5 mm plugged to the left on the Deva Pro instead of L/R 3.5 TRS? I think that would make the wired comparison with the Sundara a bit more interesting.
Please make sound demonstrations for both. Thank you very much. God bless you. Have a good day. Best Regards. Enjoy the sunshine, fresh fruits and vegetables.
I got the Devo pro now and Im happy with them. The only thing is I would like a little bit more warms to the lower mids. Is this possible with a different cable under 40$?
In my experience cables always make a difference, sometimes more, sometimes less. The standard cable is usually one of the best in the price range. However I know that the only difference between the Sennheiser HD600 and HD650 was a different cable. Though the HD650 was notably more "warm". And as far as I know the HD650 cable has a higher impedance, resistance or Ohm - in other words, it is "lower quality" and cheaper... (Literally, it always costs about 17€ here, the other one 30€ or 40€, and it breaks _very_ easily, the cheaper one is more robust. And despite this, the HD650 cost more... That's Sennheiser.) So maybe if you get a cable with a higher resistance, you get a warmer sound? I have the HD600, by the way. And I also had cables, silver cables ("high quality" and I think low resistance), which created a cold, centred, "crystalline" but harsh sound. (Imo cables make more of a difference than pads, which I find rather silly, especially if a review waxes philosophical about different options without having said their overall opinion about the sound yet. At least as far as materials is concerned, however if you add or remove all airflow, I suppose one will hear it rather clearly.)
I have the Sundara hooked into the ifi zen dac version 2 to USB to my computer and although it sounds decent I feel like I'm listening to a closed back headphone, little Soundstage don't know what I might be doing wrong
I swapped the earpads of my Deva Pro's with sheepskin with holes and the soundstage got bigger than the one of my Edition XS. These headphones are absolute steal for their prise. They sound so good now that I am thinking of selling my Edition XS headphones lol
Great review, I've had the 2020 Sundara for a few months and the Deva Pro about a month. First question is how did you drive the Sundara and the Deva Pro. Wired I run both balanced, took a bit of sorting to get the cable for the Deva Pro (DPR). The difference in soundstage and openness balanced compared to SE wired was significant. Saw a couple questions below on using a Zendac, use it balanced for a start with the Sundara if you are not already, the ifi Zen products balanced output is higher quality than the SE, also it gives the extra voltage/current and mwatts the Sundara needs to open up more, on a Zen Dac in SE it's underpowered. I tried the DPR on the hipdac which is very similar to the zendac and the blu mini sound far better in BT LDAC and even better again in USB mode. Moved up to Zencan and still blu mini sounded better. I tried a few amps and wasn't sure they really improved over the blu mini as it's tuned to the DPR, I'd like to try another R2R with class A amp but I don't have these at present. In terms of hologragraphics and staging I found the DPR via USB into the blu mini very noticeably better than my Sundaras. However if I was sitting down and had my music to the front of my mind (I hate the term critical listening) I would use my Sundaras, the DPR are just so convenient though, I think hifiman are right and this is the way forward. Once losless APTX adaptive is mainstream and miniaturised amp technology keeps progressing apart from ridiculously hard to drive headphones I think this approach will become more the norm.
I went with deva pro but feel like the sound is missing something. Thinking about getting the amanda but i saw in your other video it will lose the low. Damn it, nothing is perfect unless it break the bank. Being messing around with eq but still missing or lack of something.
In a similar situation but leaning towards the Exdition XS rather than the Ananda. I've read that the XS has a bit more bass than the Ananda. It is also less expensive.
@@richardwilliams2396 I was thinking Arya but the price were still at $1.3K at the time, so I went with Ananda SE. The low on Ananda is much much better than Deva and a slightly better resolving HP but not much, still something is not right in the sound TBH. So I decided to bite the bullet and went with Arya SE as it now down to $1K instead of $1.6K. The moment I put on the Arya, all I can say is WOW!!!! It's like someone just remove the paper towel from both ear cups that muffled the sound all those time. And NO, you don't have to do an A/B to justify the sound. The clarity is just amazing and the low will rumble both cups while maintenance that mid/high. I should have just went with Arya from the beginning if I only knew. I think it an end game for me with Arya. It sound just like my main setup ML Vista. All I can say is that I'm very happy with Arya. 😁
The Verum 1 MK2 is said to be superduper good and preferable to the Sundara. Though the Sundara has a lot of haters, strangely... Despite phenomenal qualities which I never heard before at that price. I think more that the always popular Sennheiser HD600 is way overrated btw (and clearly old and flabby). But I'm not going to get into it. Rather add, that the Verum 1 MK2 is also said to be better than anything else in the price range that might be compared to the Sundara. That's the interesting part. E.g. see the Honest Audiophile. However it can be hard to get...
@@fifthhoven So after Ananda, I bought HD660s2 which were a huge mistake. Yes, it thats bad. So I pull the trigger and went with Arya SE. It solved 95% of my hearing problems but i am now in the works of trading in my Arya and upgrqded to HE 1000 stealth magnet. But I heard the bass isnt great but its a far more resolving than Arya, so i'm kindna not sure. After owning few headphones (Deva Pro, HE 4XX, Ananda SE, HD660s2 I return the HD660se) in lower price tier which isn't cutting it for me. I just don't want to waste money to beat around the bush.
@@denis4072 Apparently my reply got autodeleted from too many keywords or namedrops or edits or whatever (even if there were just a couple), it happens sometimes, though it's odd... (Just RU-vid.) But it doesn't matter much.
Did I say that? I guess it depends on the "expensive headphone". Some are much easier to drive than others. As far as the HD600, that is a headphone that most consider to scale very well with better amps.
IMO, neither is "better" or "worse". They are just "different". That said, if you're explicitly talking raw VALUE though, then the new Deva Pro's absolutely CRAP ALL OVER the Sundara's. They are literally the single most flexible single pair of open-back planars (if not ALL over-ears) on the ENTIRE freaking market!
@@theheadphoneexperience-wil2250 Which is an award that I agree with WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!! Hell, I'd argue that the Deva Pro's are the best value in over-ear, open-back headphones for a first time buyer (aka no suitable DAC+ amp setup) across probably the ENTIRE PAST DECADE! IMO, literally the only other pairs that can compete with it are either the two different HE400i's or the HE400se's, all of which were ABSOLUTELY GARGANTUAN drops to the "entry level price-point" for quality planar magnetics.
@@bfkc111 I frequently use the Sundara as an example of what I consider to be a neutral headphone. Although Hifiman treble is a little too bright for some.
Listening to audio reviews the last two days for headphones has convinced me 100% this shit is mostly snakeoil. Nothing personal, its just so subjective. "there is less bass but its more, this one is softer but the bass is more flavor" shit is a joke.
