These videos have the power to make me forget the pain and shame if my one and only skiing experience! Man…I want to do what you two are doing!! Have fun and keep sharing. Thank you!
I was there in 2023 and stayed at the same Hotel, I find the runs are confining and dangerous if busy but we were there at the end of the season and not many people. wish they open up more areas through the tree areas instead of fenced-in runs. your presentation was excellent Thank you.
Thanks a lot @tanggambalanga! Yeah unfortunately a lot of the resorts in Korea have narrow runs with too many people. Muju was probably the most wide and open, but it was still quite narrow compared to other places I've skied before. Also share your wishes that it snowed more and they opened up tree skiing!
Hi guys. Love your content that I have just discovered. We were planning for a bikepacking trip to Japan but the country being still closed to travelers, we changed our mind for South Korea. And your channel was the very first one with great and informative videos. I have heard you were a videographer. So I am, but in a country so far far away (not only in terms of distance). Please don't be mean to your s1h. It's an awesome camera! Yet heavy. I am an happy Sony fx3 user. And I even considered the s1h at some point. Especially for the unique 24 90mm brick! Would love to connect when (if) we come in spring 2022.
Hi Patrick thanks a lot! 🙌 Haha don't worry I treat the S1H very well normally! If I waited a year I would have bought an A7S3 or FX3 instead of the S1H for sure, but I still enjoy shooting with it a lot! You guys will have an amazing time bike packing in South Korea. I think it's the perfect country for it!!
@@lostthenfound the fx3 and the a7s iii are great. I am super happy with them, but they feel a bit toyish. Compared to the s1h. They don't really 'impress' the clients when being used. Thks for all the detail. We have been watching all your contents, it's an advice meccha! Actually, I have just realized that flying from Morocco won't be possible soon. K-eta is being tested with only 20 countries and won't be fully launched before fall. So we might travel to Korea in October. I will comment also with my other channel exclusive travel reviews as I watch some of your episodes on different devices. So don't be surprised seeing 2 watchers from Morocco 😉
@@patrick.arnoux haha yeah I'm pretty sure you could drop the S1H and it would destroy the floor but the camera would be fine. That's odd that the FX3 doesn't impress clients though as it's the same sensor as the FX6 and they would love that! Haha people care so much about the appearance of cameras and not what the video output is like eh! Too bad about the K-ETA time but the fall is such a nice season in Korea and amazing for cycling!
Thank you so much for your high quality videos and thoughtful insights. I am wondering if you could increase the length of your vlogs without comprising on the quality too much. I know it is a lot of work to produce 10 minutes of high quality video. I'd be happy to see for example from you High One in depth review some more of the travel from Soeul, more on your meals and other elements of your trip. Regards
Hey Matt, thanks for the great content! It's been really helpful. My partner and I are coming to Korea for the first time at the end of February for 10 days (15th-25th), and choosing which mountain to go to has been a bit of a mission. We are both beginners, and the plan is to ski/snowboard for 3-4 days maximum so we can also enjoy the city. What would you recommend considering the snow conditions at the end of February, the diversity of slopes, and things to do/explore around? I know you've probably answered this question way too many times, but your help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
Hey @TheCaiosk8 thanks a lot! If you guys are complete beginners, I'd consider going to Yongpyong which actually has another mountain nearby (5 minutes away) called Alpensia if you want to spend a day or two at each of them. Yongpyong has the most things to do in the village, and then you can head down to Hoengye (횡계) / Daegwalleong (대관령) for more restaurants about a 15 minute taxi ride away. I'd recommend renting a car for this trip if possible (you can rent from Lotte Rent a Car in English with an international driving permit), and in that case I would also try and make it over to Gangneung (강릉) and walk around near Gyeongpo Beach (경포대해수욕장) if you want to take a rest day from skiing. It's a really nice relaxing area with a lot of restaurants and cafes to walk along close to the ocean.
It's really fun Lindie! Last year they closed it off so the olympic athletes could train because of Covid they were stuck in Korea so it was our first time on it! Really fun resort overall!
Hi, thanks for your video. I like your calming voice! We wanted to try High1 before the pandemic but was put off by the lack of information. Your video gave more info and I think we would like to visit in Jan 2024. The Trazy packages says the accomodation will be at either High1 Resort Hill or Mountain Condo. Would you know if these are near enough to the slopes and if there are food options at night? How far are they to the Sabuk and/or Gohan towns? Thanks in advance.
Thanks a lot @kweenahgan1725! 😊 Both of those places are right next to the slopes, and they are close to each other as well. There are places to eat, but not as many as you would find in Sabuk and Gohan. There are free shuttles to take you to those places from the resort though, so just ask the lobby and they will help you out.
Hello I am going to do snowboarding with a first-timer friend in early February. The guide is so helpful and I think High 1 will be our preference given the snow quality and good beginner slopes. Will it be better to use train or shuttle bus to get to High 1 from convenience perspective? Also it seems mountain condo is best as it has the Athena AT3 run, which we will be using the most (beginners)? We are planning to do 2 days of snowboarding and 1 night staying at High 1. Thank you
Hello @user-bl9gw4lx6l glad it was helpful! The most convenient would be the shuttle bus, as it has an English reservation system and it will take you right to the resort: high1.rideus.net/high1/ Mountain condo would be great too! Honestly any of the hotels right on the resort will be fine too.

Excellent video, thank you. Would you recommend booking everything on Trazy? Or I have read that I ca get 30/40% discount cards in the resort and then use these for buying lift pass and ski hire when there.
Hi there Edd thanks a lot! 😊 To be honest I've never heard of Trazy so I can't give a recommendation, but just looking at the site it seems like it could make things a lot easier. You can probably get better deals going to the local shops near ski resorts and buying lift tickets and/or renting gear from them, but it will take a lot more effort and hassle to do so for sure.
hey! is there a lot of taxis around the resort? i have to go from Seoul in the morning and go back at night to Seoul and is thinking to take a bus through Gohan Sabuk Terminal. But they don't have shuttle bus that goes to the terminal, so i think taxi is my only choice..
Hi there! There should definitely be some taxis around the terminal, and use the Kakao T app to call them if there aren't. If both of those options don't work then there are also regular buses that go around there.
It looks like they don't advertise it on their main page, but you can find lessons on Trazy there here: www.trazy.com/experience/detail/high1-ski-resort-basic-private-ski-lesson-in-english Have a great time snowboarding!
Hey guys, Love you videos! I'm planning to head to Korea over the Christmas and was wondering what are the key differences between High1 and Yongpyong that makes High1 a better resort. I'll be there for 5 days so looking for a lot of variety and activities to do on those days where I'm tired. I'm an advance boarder and would like to do some park (if any). Cheers,
Hi NootNoot thanks so much! 😊 At the time of making this video High 1 was our favourite but it's actually changed to Yongpyong now. The snow and terrain is a little better at High 1, but Yongpyong has a bit more variety and there are more things to do in the village as it is a lot bigger. Also the park at Yongpyong improved a lot last year (I'd call it the best built in Korea, but not he biggest) and High 1 stopped building a park these days.
Hi Crystal thanks so much! 😊 If you don't have a car, I would take the train from Seoul Station to Sabuk or Gohan (14,000 KRW) and find a hotel that has a free shuttle bus that goes between the hotel and the mountain. If you can't find one, May Hills Resort in Gohan is the place we stay at a lot and it has good facilities and a convenience store right inside. Then you can explore Sabuk and Gohan and enjoy the slopes at the same time! If you don't have gear, then I'd recommend finding a ski shop in Sabuk or Gohan that do discounts on ski rentals/passes (you might have to do some research on Google Maps/Naver Maps but there are lots of them), as it'll be cheaper than renting from the mountain. Also most of the ski shops will drive you to the lifts as well!
That's right David! Right in a nice hotel too. Skiing isn't as good as it is in North America/Europe, but it's still a great way to spend the winter if you are in Korea! Better than being in the city for sure!
Hi guys. I will be moving to korea in a few years to teach english while I look for other jobs and maybe stay for a few years. While I'm in korea, I want to take up snowboarding as a hobby. Is that realistically do-able? Are there many places in korea that I can go snowboarding on the weekends?. Thank you
Hi there! Taking up snowboarding as a hobby on weekends is totally doable here! If you are new to snowboarding and living in/near Seoul I'd recommend going to a place like Jisan resort to start out. It's easier to get there with transportation, and you can start out by renting gear (literally everything) at one of the rental shops nearby. We made a video of Jisan here if you want to see what it's like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o5EUBEH56Ak.html Then once you are looking to buy gear, just use Karrot Market (second hand app like craigslist). Snowboarding gear goes for so cheap on there, and the new stuff is really expensive. Also Koreans in general keep their gear in amazing condition compared to what I'm used to in Canada.
So about $800 USD for the whole month? Ok I saw the USD cost on bottom of screen. Thats cheap, 1,100 for the whole month, in America it would be 6-9k for month, why so cheap?
Hi @user-ey2ei5yv3f that's right. Korea is quite a bit cheaper than USA is, especially when it comes to skiing/ski resorts. The prices might have increased a bit since this video though. I'm not too sure.
During the ski season months, which month or week days would be the slowest at High1, going this coming winter and wanna go ski for a few days or, I'm still doing research in planning the next visit, the more videos I watch I change things up but definitely going to Busan and Jeju Island.
If you are renting gear you can get cheaper lift tickets from the rental shops in Gohan. Here is the location of one of them, and they are all super close to each other: naver.me/xPIMb4pa Or else check out Naver for '하이원 리프트권" to see the cheapest prices. For example, this is much cheaper than just buying a ticket from High1: tour.wd.wemakeprice.com/activity/direct/detail/GD210000000498444?PRICE_af&NaPm=ct%3Dkyllkbi0%7Cci%3D8a68c0640ceb73af192e02cd8d145bd739837b1b%7Ctr%3Dsls%7Csn%3D197023%7Chk%3Dc6146f153b96c11f75bd00bd58e7155ba18df7a1
How many days of skiing would you recommend to go for? I've been skiing before and am beginner/intermediate but would probably need some time before I'm ready for advanced slopes. Would it be enjoyable to go for 1-2 weeks?
You could spend about a week at Yongpyong, High 1, or Muju and there will be enough facilities and slopes to keep you occupied. Any longer than that and I'd recommend traveling to multiple resorts instead.
They stopped building a park since 2020 and they fully took it off their website now. Also Jisan Resort decided not to build a park this year. Seems like a lot of resorts in Korea are starting to go that trend unfortunately! Yongpyong, Phoenix Park, and Welli Hilli all have great parks still luckily.
@@lostthenfound Do you know why they do that? not much interest in parks? I just started skiing in 2019, planning to learn snowboarding in next year in Solang valley. Still early for parks, but i plan to go parks in Korea someday.
John Chia I tried to pin your comment but I accidentally pressed the "Remove Comment" and I can't get it back. Sorry about that! I'll pin this and hopefully you can see it! For renting equipment, I'd rent from one of the smaller ski shops located in Gohan. Here is a Naver map link to one of them, and they are all really close to each other as well: naver.me/xPIMb4pa You can also get discount lift tickets if you rent from these shops, and they even offer lessons. Right now with the pandemic it looks like High1 isn't offering lessons directly, so if you don't speak Korean at all then I think the best option would be to check out the "Snowboard and Ski South Korea" Facebook group as people are always posting lessons to English speakers on there. Another great option is www.adventurekorea.com they offer ski tours all winter for foreigners and it's a great place to meet new people and have a great time! I've done them before in the past. They will also arrange rentals, lessons, and accommodation.
