Another incredible film from this duo. Love that you include the process, emotion, disappointment and exultation of these experiences. In love with this team.

That stream looks like one I fish in the Southern Uplands of Scotland (apart from the colour of the water - the one I fish is peat stained). Your video gave me a few hints and tips for winkling out a few more trout on my next visit! Thanks for taking us all along on your trip.....

Happy you joined us in this one - we try to share and put you there :) There's a universality of trout water and features that trout can't help but use, that's what we really focus on here, trout behaviour. A lot of people want to see fish caught repeatedly, we want people to get how we can line up on a piece of water and know that we'll get a take from 90% + of the trout we encounter and understand why/how/when/where. :) All the best! Dave

Looks like a superb day searching the water and achieving some amazing results. It's too easy sometimes to forget when at home how challenging conditions can be out there. Especially seeing as its late season now and you've already caught those fish 🤣🔥👌🏽🏞️

Some extremely spotty fun for sure.... classic high ctry walking. 😊 The 4 months drought hasn't made life easy nor possible through a lot of that water this year or most years come Jan. The good news is that we fished and filmed 17 months ago so they should be well rested from our impact... we're always at least a year or two removed to avoid hot spotting. 🍻

THANK you for your support and encouragement. It was a great season. The drought was a little rough but we made certain to skirt the harshly impacted waters. Hope you get the time and life opportunity this coming season. Dave

great video guys so often our fishery is portrayed as rock on up and bingo but there is a range of skills from a level of fitness to spotting and reading the water, combined the rewards are good, for those coming all this way and are just the average joe i would recommend a guide

It's quite the balance between setting the stage as it truly is vs what viewership will tolerate. We tend to linger and tell the longer story - not popular with YTube algorithms, hence the few actual views of most of our videos. But it's EXTREMELY important because otherwise people feel a sense of exactly what you're saying, which things so incredibly seldom are. Somehow social media has lost touch with what it actually takes to fly fish, the pace of things. As I led with in the video - short form video misses the cadence and reality of things on the water over the course of a day or multi-day experience, much less the how/where/when/why. And this river and video SCREAM those things to those paying attention. We certainly are advocates of the NZPFFGA because we've referred so many to various guides... and 99% of people that come back from NZ send us a note and comment how incredibly easy we make it look when it is so not - it's not the robotic cast & catch of Patagonia or cutthroat trout. The reality is that we simply go about picking apart rivers, get the take from most fish... but what 99.9% of people miss is that not only do we get the takes but we get it all on video as well. That should spell things out to people but as we've been told time & again, when you do it well and make it look easy, people live through your rod & lens and feel empowered. That's great and that's what we are here to do - encourage the go and share the how, but walking up to almost any fish and getting a take on rod and camera so consistently takes... well... uh... a few years of doing it. ;)

@@jensenflyfishing my understanding is that the guides have been trying for years to have a registration process and this might be about to come to fruition Also we have a new minister for hunting and fishing and it looks like the current structure of fish and game are about to be brought into the 21st century this will upset some of the old guard and their silos, but its long overdue

@@kenlloyd5195 here's hoping. Sounds like a number of people have been saying similar. The ongoing focus solely of what anglers can get out of a resource rather than putting the resource first does need to change.

Nice work. Fished that stretch quite a few times when I was starting out ... 25 years ago. next river over (westward) holds quite a few double figure fish. Caught my first ver 12 lb-er there. But, beautiful valley ... and plenty of water.

It's a neat bit of water - incredibly not fishy but for a short time given how the seasons go. The video was more born of a desire to walk a heap of KMs up there as it's such a wondrous region. The river west is also one of the worst rivers in NZ on high cloud to cloudy days for sighting, hence why it gets the pressure in spurts :)

Dave Help me please ? I live in Loveland Colorado I love climbing mountains and fishing the high mountains lakes and streams for cutthroats what's the best single fly pattern and method do you and Jen recommend I am 20 miles for rocky mountain national park late July end of august ? at 11k elevation bushwhacking I cant carry a lot of gear and tackle what I have must count. FYI your a very lucky man the lord has blessed you both. thanks for any help you all can give.

Hello and thank you for the note. We haven't fished your waters so anything we'd share is projection from afar. Midge patterns - particularly chironomids, would be the #1 fly choice. Zone in on fishing those and you'll find far more consistent catching success. It often isn't as sexy as beadhead nymphs, terrestrials or mayflies/caddis or small streamers but it is the most consistent method. :)
