I just played a game where i managed to go 8/0 vs teemo as Tryndamere in lane. Rotated all game, caught kills and saved team mates... took both heralds and got two dragons. They had a vex, jinx, teemo, soraka and rammus. As soon as team fights would happen my whole team would explode and I'd get taunted, feared, blinded, taunted, rooted disabled for my whole health bar and ult period with near full build and merc treads. Even when I could make it out alive liandries burn would still dot kill me. It's not even like the game was heavily in there favour income wise, we were winning. Team fights were just impossible even when we had the undeniable advantage due to point click cc leading to massive chain stomp cc. I hate new champions man. Vex is disgusting in team fights

Taric OTP here and Taric has always been super adaptable in many roles with many builds. He is phenomenal if played well and with patience. Thank you for shining a light on a character that means so much to us over at the Taric community. The more general knowledge out there about him will make our game quality much better. A common complaint from our own team is "what does Taric even do" due to his unpopular nature.

I think because they really enjoy what they’re playing and limit testing. They don’t care what others think about them and focus on their own champion’s strengths in that role and their own performance. Granted, that doesn’t mean we should all just go off meta, but that does mean for us is that we should be enjoying what we play and strive for pushing our own limits. Because in the end, motivation and striving is more powerful than any tier list or winrate. This off meta unpopular champ shtick might actually be the true embodiment of one-tricking to an extreme level. They know their champion in and out and what they can do vs others. I wouldn’t be surprised if they knew how to play their one champ against every single champ in the game - that means they have an inherent advantage no one else gets.

This, so much this. If you know very well the capacities of your favorite champion, you can go any where and make it work. Way back in season 4-5 I played Nasus Support when the ADC relies so much on AA (Ashe, Jinx, MF, Tristana) due to his E that shreds amor a his W to slow them. Nasus by default is tanky, so I went with more armor, Magic resistance and mana items, you didn't need stacks, you just need to be there and intimidate the enemy. Rylais to slow them, Frozen Heart to reduce Attack Speed, Spirit Visage to improve his passive, the rest is up to adapt the enemy team. Some people were Mad with me, some others had a huge laugh seeing him work, others asking why it works, and some one literally calling him 'A personal Watch Dog' This is why I kinda like off meta picks, I can't be Mad at them because I used to do that. (I quite after season 6, from time to time I play Wildrift)

@@FinalShadowZX Nice name, anyways Kled used to be my most played champ (stopped playing) and sometimes I go Mid Kled if I got A.) An enemy mid laner who loses to trades like a really bad zed/yasuo B.) A melee jungler where I can coordinate an ult with like a Rengar The difference is that usually junglers are much closer and are more likely to gank mid which I can help with using Q,E and R (from experience) plus I can have a really fast rotation without relying on teleport since I can use ult on top and bottom lane, It's funny seeing Zeds scote plummet to 0/6

Athene's Unholy Grail used to be amazing on Taric. Just read this and tell me it isn't *exactly* what Taric wants. +80 ability power. +36 magic resistance. +15 mana regeneration per 5 seconds. UNIQUE PASSIVE: 15% cooldown reduction. UNIQUE PASSIVE: Restores 12% of your maximum mana on kill or assist. UNIQUE PASSIVE: Increases your mana regeneration by 1% per 1% mana missing. It was a very offensive item that Taric could build instead of another magic resistance item and it dealt with the vast majority of mana issues that Taric had. It did get some changes, such as the following, along with some other stat changes: Mana regeneration per 5 seconds changed to 50% from 10. Unique Passive "Mana Font" changed to "Restores 1.5% of missing mana every 5 seconds". The passive was later increased to 2%. While it was sad to see the flat MP5 go, the change to the mana regen passive made up for it. Of course, this didn't mean the mana issues were gone, but it made your life far easier. Sadly, they changed the item and Taric sort of fell with it. While some runes did help him, he could no longer be the crazy spam healer that he used to be while assisted with the massive mana regen from the item, and this also meant that his damage was decreased a lot with it. It wasn't anything they did to the champion that made Taric less useful. It was the items, and releasing other champions with kits that could simply outperform him at their respective roles. I miss the glory times of Taric.

@@Cynidecia Pretty much same here to be honest. I loved the massive buff he gave with the old ultimate for example, and the armor shred W Shatter was amazing. They honestly could've changed the E (stun for those uninitated) and increased his movement speed by 5 and the champion would likely be in a pretty good spot.

I hardly ever play League anymore (I think I have around 20 ranked games this entire season), but man I love when you upload content. Your videos are so in depth and cover so much info, and it's clear how much effort you put in to editing them. If you were to do more videos like this, about certain players having quirky picks like this, it'd be awesome if you could (assuming they would be willing to work with you) have some kind of interview/Q&A segment with the player. Like where you could ask Rocket why he picks up Doran's when he does, or what made him decide to try Taric in the jungle to begin with. Things of that sort. Thanks for the content!

Hey Exil I'm big fan I watch all your videos and like them all but I found this one to be very underwhelming and hard to get through it felt like this could of easily been a 10-15 min video that was stretched out to 25 minutes by repeating yourself and talking in circle......usually love the content but could not finish the last few minutes of this youtube video, it was a little boring. Taric was my “main supp” back in the day and I honestly never saw another Taric on any team unless I picked him lol. Btw I used to max 1st his “W” which was called “shatter”, and my friends thought I was trolling bcuz I didn’t max his heal or his stun. But his W passively gave you extra “damn good” armor/MR with each rank, which “always” made me tanky asf in the early game without having to buy any items compared to my opponents. On top of that the W’s active actually “shed enemies armor” essentially enabling your team to do true damage early game, and also gave Taric decent burst damage. Add in his steroid ultimate that used to boost your entire team’s AP and AD by like 40 each at level 6, it was almost guaranteed won lane with multiple kills fed to ur Adc by level 6.

Instead of PTA, LightRocket also goes Glacial Augment on occasion; especially when playing Blueside for the easy level 2 gank bot through the tri-brush. If he goes Glacial Augment, he usually picks up one of Chemtank (rarely) or Randuins (more more reliable) to activate the AoE slow. Few other tips: Similar to Warwick, you don't need to buy a refillable at the start of the game; your healing should keep you topped up. On Blue Side you should double-camp the blue buff with gromp because Taric's single-target clears are slow because you can't afford to spam Q without Blue buff (and even with Blue Buff, Taric's Mana Pool is too low early). Lightrocket doesn't finish items early; Taric is a very strong early game and you want as much early-game power as possible so he buys components: Glacial Shroud, Plated Steelcaps and Bramble Vest are his most frequently bought early items. Glacial helps with his mana pool issues and Bramble/Steelcaps give a chunk of early armour (passive and E damage scale with armour). Skill order: Take Q level 1, then E. You can gank top (red side) or bot (blue side) here at level 2 if you have Glacial Augment. Take W and then level E->Q->W. Take a second point in Q at level 7 for the increased healing. Early game try to look for plays or 1v1 vs the enemy jungler; there are only a handful of champs who can actually handle you early game (like Warwick and Xin). Post-6, group with your team every time your ult is up and force a fight; you can afford to take bad fights (like dives) and still win because your ult is so op. He goes great with engage champs that can force fights for that reason.

Taric is fucking busted yet nobody plays it. Lets give kayn a skin and buff him although hes already busted, yet nobody plays him kekw. Here's why i dont play taric: 1. Broken 2. Not actually a "support" type rather more of a bruiser type 3. Ppl don't know how to play with the champ 4. I prefer learning the game properly as a support, so you don't get your "elo-inflated" support eventually... if I'm even going to be playing this dogshit junk of a game later. Also the champ is highly skill-rated when it comes to both R and E(stun), so don't expect just to do well with him, same goes for pros. As Exil pointed out in comparisson to e.g Leona and Rell, that's pretty much why. The champ can either dominate the game or be useless.

There are some builds only player that love soo much the champions get to know and HOW to use. Mine is Quemtech turbo tank shyvana with glacial augment. It just does so much DAMAGE, like, more damage than my REAL DAMAGE build hahaha.The reason is just that I get to live forever, and thus, dealing constant shyvana-like base damage. sorry the bad english btw

Been playing taric top for a while So the thing about taric is.. you win level 1 against almost anyone melee... and it tilts the fuck out of anyone who plays bruisers, juggernauts, or assassins (many easy snowballs from dipshits underestimating the troll support top laner.. then ezpz lanes from tilted afk 0/2 darius) its fucking amazing. I intentionally locked myself at m6 because it baits rage better .. ive had resources,tokens, and even champ shards(mutiple) for getting m7 taric for like a year now and it pays off Hot pink pool party or fifth age are his two best skins, always be sure to max taunt first with pool party (he has a megaphone)... not really but i usually go 2 in q then max e or w first based on matchup, then i max q. Basically any tank mythic works on him but also 3 secret mythics: sunderer, the ice zone AP mythic, and protobelt... youll figure it out within a few ganes experimenting which to get (Either tear item is great) you can get good value out of Overshock, Slowyslap, Grasp and PTA... Usually i just kinda default to yellow/green trees for tenacity and mana in yellow then situationals all the way up green. /Endtangeant

Disagreed with the statement " he was a troll pick between 2012-2016", at no point old Taric was bad, he had an absurdly good winrate due to giving tons of passiv stats, his winrate only fell at very very high elo ... but was still at least 51% at all time.

The reason why I don't play him even when he was in meta is that: 1. Is boring(not flashy and no huge visible impact) 2. It's easy to mess up. As you said, mana issues, if u miss ur stun u look like a clown and u might cast a 3 minutes cd ultimate too early/late 3. It doesn't look that cool. Some say that he's gay(like an insult), some just don't like him. It reminds me of Zilean, good champ but ugly for most of the people. Even people who played him when he was busted didn't actually like the champion, they just liked the LP gained from playing him.

Completely divorced from the video itself, I gotta say, the thumbnail and title are THICK with clickbait, man. The whole title is intentionally nondescript, only using generic terms for "High ELO" "Player" "Unpopular champion" "Off-meta role" in order to incite questions in the viewer's mind, such as "What tier? Which player? What champion? What role?" and then finally asks "HOW?", all to make the viewer of this thumbnail desire the answers to these implicit questions enough to unconsciously click the link into the video. For most people, this entire thought process is unconscious and none of the questions enter the memory of the viewer as something they wanted an answer to, but the video is still promising them some satisfaction -- to learn the identities and arrangements of these generic ideas. I mean, I'd watch your videos either way, but seeing all the clickbait just reeks of desperation and makes me a little uncomfortable supporting that sort of behavior. Not that being a viewer means I hold any stock in your marketing tactics... And not that my support is self-important enough to have qualifications that should be imposed upon any creator I choose to view... And not that I have any grounds or standing from which to launch this accusation. Whatever, I don't matter.

Picked up Taric jg a few weeks ago. Im 35 games into ranked with a 71% WR. If you like support but dont wanna be in a lane, play Taric! Avoid heavy AP/kiting enemy comps. If you do it anyway, go glacial augment with merc boots.

You're memory of Taric as a "Troll Pick" is very sus. Taric was reworked not because he was bad or outdated. He was reworked because they couldn't balance his kit. He was the best support in the game for years and years in solo Q and was freelo. His passive was just way too strong coupled with shatter and it put him in a spot where they needed to shift his power budget off his stun and armor shred and onto something people could play around. Unfortanately Taric's ult aged very poorly in the anti-tank, roll your face on the keyboard with Zed for 25 kills a game meta we're in. But the real reason Taric is a "troll" pick now is that everything he does is anti-fun. He doesn't actually effect a fight by doing anything but preventing fun coming into existance. He needs another rework IMO.

the game back then was so much better with more counterplay and when decisionmaking mattered now the only thing matters today, are mechanics and who rolls his face on the keyboard to oneshot someone with broken CANCER picks like akali, irelia, fiora I want my old game back why did I make this post? because he doesn't know anything about the game (the uploader) he says many champs are viable, are 10 champions whom I see every game MANY? back then we had many metas at once during a season now its always the same

@18:40 This is why it's advantageous to play unpopular champions (or champions in unpopular roles for them) if you know how to play them well. If your opponent(s) don't know the champ well, they are at a disadvantage trying to play against it.

Any game you do something different you will be getting told by silver and bronze players you are playing the game 'wrong'. I don't understand how people can fully commit to that comment. Sometimes they start trolling the game because technically you did first because of your pick.

Something about 1 tricks, they are scary to play against because a 1 trick has so many different plans, styles, winning objectives, and tactics that you could camp a 1 trick and shut them down hard but turns out that is their plan and they snowball their team. Its why i really think KDA doesnt matter at all when you want to see if someone is good at climbing in solo q or if they have good knowledge over the game ( no im not saying this because of my 2.01 kd on darius)

I think the Dorans Buy is for the Buildpath, none of the items he builds seems to include AD (dont know about athenas) but i believe he cant buy a Longsword to build out of, so he goes for HP and Damage + Lifesteal

Honestly, if Taric had gotten that anime art and his VGU involved that as his rework, he'd be a ton more popular, I think he needs the slightest bit of edge and "coolness" along with his generally "pretty" aesthetic.
