Wasn't it that characters can't block to soak attacks for their unit anymore? I thought you said in one game that you can always target rank and file in combat now, which seems like an extremely good rule. I'll have to look in the rulebook... Edit: Yup, page 52, third paragraph under "Who can strike?" says that you can always target rank and file models, even if you're only in base contact with characters in the unit. No more forced to divide attacks into characters because of base contact shenanigans, aka no more wall of characters in the obnoxious ogre gutbus.
I guess it would have been better to ignore 5+ warded swordmasters with demis an threaten the archers. So your crossbows could've shot them instead of losing a full turn. Then, the masters couldn't have charged but need to move up, meaning they get shot again next turn. Then, when they charge crossbows OR swordsmen, you get another round of fire (stand and shoot: statetroops!) or an additional flank charge. Front charging demis into swordmasters or any high strength unit just does not work, because their killig potential is not high enough to make the enemy lose out on attacks.
This legit looks like the battle for the intersection of Westheimer and Gessner when the light is out. Houston is whack yo, people bringing their guns, mortars, and fiery convocations.
Always great to see a Batrep! Please consider for empire lists: Pegasus Captain with the LIFESTONE OF ASHRAAZ - charge any big monster and swap your wounds with it. Witch hunter with a flying carpet and a brace of pistols to hunt enemy characters
I love all these BatReps but I hate how Cullen "rolls" lmao...he just drops them or lets them fall out of his hand. Of course that is just personal preference and it still has some essence of randomness but I've always felt actually rolling them has had a better results. That is just me though! But, as always a very fun game to watch!
Because this game has a very steep learning curve knowing your enemy, choose the right deployment, pick the right match ups to fight and able to cast the right spells at the right time can all shift the game to one side. Plus LUCK is a huge part of the game where one or two dice roll can make or break the game.
Everytime one of these starts and steve goes "heeeeeeey" I think it's going to be followed up with "PIZANOS, IT'S THE SUPER MARIO BROTHERS SUPER SHOW!" just me? ... I'll see my self out...
Just a reminder! If you fully kill a unit in the first round of combat, and overrun another unit: you get to fight that unit. Your silverhelms could have killed those pistoliers
I find it so sad, that with all the experience that the community has , the guys who wrote this "New edition " units like dragons and fighty Lords are left at home along with low level wizards in favour of one wizard Lord who just throws silly amounts of dice at one or two spells that need silly high numbers to cast. They even kept lase guidednever miss cannons.... 8h edition was the worst edition of the game and its sad to,see it was the basis of this project . But you do great work and I do enjoy your Cotent .
I couldn't disagree more. It's evident by your post that you've never played 9th, and your opinion of 8th makes me take anything you say with a huge amount of salt. So far, this is the best edition of Warhammer, ever.

That is more like their listbulding choice than anything else. A few hero wizards are perfectly fine and fighty lords are much more viable. The cannons do scatter before bouncing, they are hardly laser guided. I suggest first reading the ruleset, before making completely uneducated comments
@@CommandingVoice. I HAVE read it . So don't speak to me about 'uneducated comments " I read it having seen Steve and co playing if and got curious. Magic seems is almost a carbon copy of 8th, but dialed up. Spells are better . More reliable as you don't pick to cast the more powerful version before seeing the casting roll .(a terrible change ) they kept the random winds generation so most of the time you have half the pool of dice to stop spells . This encourages the caster to throw a bucket of dice at every spell. Either to draw out the dispel dice or to go for irresistible force and push it through. I know it's also just list choices , but their seems to be far more items and abilities that boost casting rolls as well. And even the miscast table isn't anywhere near as punishing as previous editions . All of this points to the 8th edition problem of the level 4 being a key pick over say, 2 level 2s . You don't even have the old school scroll caddy anymore, to help keep magic down a smidge . The scatter does help make cannons slightly worse than 8th,but its still not enough . But it helps . My main issue is magic is still over the top and needed to be reigned in. Monsters like dragons for example look to be a bit too pricey to see regular play especially over a high level wizard . You need to to be able to counter your enemies magic or risk being torn to shreds . I guess I'm hung up on the fact that magic was badly written in 8th especially with the addition of super spells and the designers of this version seem to have thought this was good and healthy and even that it needed dialling up to 11 🤣
@@benbiddiss336 There is also more items to protect agains magic, you have 2 different dispell scrolls, mystic shield and mystic maze, MR adds bonuses to dispell roll AND allow you a save agains test-or-die spells and bonuses to casting from wizard level are halved compared to 8th edition. The characters on monsters are pricy because they are extremely tough thanks to combined profile and save, so no wonder they are expensive (and even then, in 2500 games you can field them without much problem). The cannon change is enough if you pair it with changes to Line of Sight, there just have to be something on the table that allows you to hide unlike the shooting gallery that was in this battle report.
@@CommandingVoice I agree, you need some intervening terrain for protection against shooting. That cpt on Pegasus shoukd deploy behind a forest or building.
