I'm going to make a few blanket statements. Forgive me. All lights on audiophile equipment must be amber colored, like tube amps, like the filaments in an Edison bulb, like coals burning in a fireplace. No color is warmer, softer, nor more inviting than amber. And stop making the lights so bright. All lights must be dimmable and have the option to be turned off completely! It's 2022, people! No more excuses for annoyingly bright audio equipment.

I bought a Roksan Caspian system with Roksan speakers 25 years ago. I’ve never heard sound quality like this before. It left my other Marantz system for dead. The company was originally started by two Iranian guys operating out of London who were two hi-fi nuts.

I've been a Roksan fan for many years. Founded by Touraj Moghaddam, it was better known for its Linn LP12 killing Xerxes turntable and radical speaker designs (the Darius incorporating spring suspension for the tweeter and exoskeleton stands). They still make a very good turntable (the only Attessa product made in the UK) , which has similar design cues to the higher end Vertere vinyl spinners (again founded by Touraj).

i have the attessa streaming amp with ls50 meta on the kef stands , i use the svs 3000 micro sub to give a little bit of weight to the metas . i love the roksan as was using my yamaha av receiver for music now the roksan powers the front channels on the yamaha , reat for music ...

A couple of years ago I purchased a CD player a Roksan Caspian m2 a great machine for the price. However what really impressed me was the amplifier (the shop were unable to get mine) The amp used in the demo was a Roksan Blak, pre the Monitor Audio buy out. I was determined to save up and buy one.

Excellent review - as always - especially the comparisons. For me, the absence of tone controls is a dealbreaker. Most of the time I bypass my tone controls, but when I need them, I really need them. Not having them renders some old recordings much less enjoyable.

Love Roksan gear. I have a Xerxes 20+ and Roksan TR5-S2 speakers. I have just swapped my Roksan Caspian M2 for a Naim Uniti Atom, and I was considering the Attessa option. They are a fantastic company and are very good at aftersales support. In addition you get a 5 year warranty on all their gear. I'd be interested to hear your view on the Roksan Attessa vs Naim Uniti Atom.

I tested my new b&w 703 S3 with the roksan attessa streaming amplifier from my son. I connected the mojo2 dac to it and put the volume on "blue" .. The result was amazing.. i still have a luxman a373 amplifier which is about 30 years old.. And my god, it sounded old compared to the Roksan. The Roskan, together with the mojo2, streamed digital by usb-c from my ipad pro sounded amazing.. The details, a perfect polished, controled, seperated sound.. incredible. (only thing it lacked maybe a bit was a less bass compared to the luxman). In Belgium you buy the Roksan without streaming for 1400 euro, 2000 with streaming.. Remember the roksan does not have tone control. But the mojo2 has an EQ on many frequencies. Shame you have to change the equaliser settings manually on the mojo2. But the combination rocks.. thats for sure!!

Thank you for this review, and for the approach you take across your channel - I am really enjoying working through a lot of your previous videos, and love the dialogue between the two of you as a way of getting insight from challenge. I am somewhat invested in BluOS, and while I recognise there is a lot out there, I am relatively keen to stay in that ecosystem as I am building systems for other rooms. I would love to see a video with your take on the various streaming amps that use it, from the Powernode, through the NAD C-series, the Attessa, and the NAD Masters. Focusing just on sound quality, you have suggested before that the Powernode / NAD devices all share a certain house sound; how does the Attessa differ from that? You talk about clinical vs character when comparing to NAD in this video; would that apply to the Powernode as well?

great review , glad i bought the attessa , hooked it up with kef ls50 meta and svs 3000 micro , intergrates with my yamaha av receiver , and when i boughht the attessa i could sell my blusound node as integrated inside and think this is better as the dac is superior to the node .. am pleased with the svs but wounder if a should have bought the kef kc62 sub , ? and also purchased another item you like , the beoplay level , what a great sound my kitchen has now ...

Thanks for reviewing the Roksan Attessa Streaming Amplifier, I know that I and probably a few others asked for this some time ago. Anyone familiar with the publication What-HiFi will be familiar with the brand Roksan, there higher end stuff is even better aka 7000.00 amps. That said, what is your beef with NAD? I understand that, you two prefer class A/B to class D and digital amplification, and like a more forward or live presentation in your music, but come on!! The Audiolab over the NAD!? ,🤔😏🙄 And I know that the only one who has to like the sound of your system is you, but can you please explain what is the problem with a powerful, yet neutral Amplifier, that's load invariant and removes itself from the Audio signal 🤔? Love you guys!! And please keep up the great work. 👍🏿

This actually looks incredible... I have the Audiolab 6000A with a Node 2i, this looks the be a cool upgrade for later on. Since it has BluOS this should support Tidal MQA, correct? I just use TIDAL for hi-fi streaming and love it personally, so was just curious.

Thanks for the review. Very helpful. I'm on the tipping point of buying one. I do know the brand Roksan. It will be connected to monitor RS 8 (older speaker). It's half the price as the amplifier I first wanted to buy. Also I'm happy with the BluOS integration. Not sure if the LAN cable is mandatory or the dongle can do the trick

I would be curious about your thoughts on Arcam? I have the sa-20 and I love it! Also have experience with the sa-10 also a good amp. The SA20 and SA30 are excellent imo. Ive always been a fan of both Arcam and Roksan amps but they are very different in their sonic delivery. Roksan is a more neutral cleaner sound where the Arcam lays toward the warm side and has a huge soundstage. I prefer the signature of Arcam these days but to each their own. I've never heard this specific Roksan amp, it looks awesome. Also Arcam seems to be shying away from sending review units out.

Had mine over a year with the cd transport I have kef r3s been waiting on a proper review for time , I use qobuz , love mine but can't get the maestro app to work with the cd transport , not really bothered as you say bluos is great , nearly bought the audiolab I listened to them both , roksan won hands down , with sound and a superior app , who needs tone , hdmi , Dirac,

I have had 3 Roksan amps over the years, plus Marantz (PM55 SE and a PM17) and Arcam's (two class G's - an AVR750 and currently an AVR850 that has Dirac) . The Roksan's have been a KA1 Mk3 L3, a Kandy K2 and a Caspian M2. Oooh, the Caspian sound. The reviews' opinion on the Marantz sound v Roksan rings very true in my personal experience - a general warmth to Marantz (their HDAM circuits seem to have this) versus clarity, punch but no harshness with Roksan. Take your pick based on your personal preference. I currently use a Chord dac into a Roksan amp with Monitor Audio Silver 8's for music and that mix works wonders for my personal taste. I can use my Arcam AVR850 if I want room correction, but it still sounds inferior to the untreated Chord/Roksan/Monitor audio system (I have both set ups in the same room). If people want their TV played through the Attessa, just use an optical cable rather than HDMI. The omission of HDMI really isn't an issue. If you want tone controls, buy the non-streaming version of the Attessa and add a Bluos Node. Love the channel. Keep up the great work!

Yup, what is up with the red lights? I think there was a bit a 70's or 80's nostalgia for Knight Rider or the Cylons but yup it looks terribad IMHO. Still would love to hear the integrated just to compare. At $3200, I know there is a lot of competition in that price range. @Kristy- may I say that you are getting some mad audiophelia chops! I have a question regarding the sound quality of the Attessa. How does it compare to the Hegel H95 which is about the same price as the Attessa Amp in Canada. Thx.

Hi Andrew! Fantastic and great review.... as usual! I don’t want to sound like a parrot here, but the powered speakers with the name starting with “K” keeps coming to mind as an all- purpose solution type of deal. My focus now is: powered speakers vs passive. Is it true to say that one must first look at the space and figure out the appropriate application.? These days, couldn’t someone manufacture extensions/ adapters for proprietary cables for active speakers??

So people over at avs forum say there's some noise in the right channel. I guess you have to be a foot away to hear it. It's not affected by the volume nob. It's supposedly with all units and Roksan has replied to a user and said it's do the toroidal transformer and gave no indication that they were going to fix it. Might be a problem with high efficiency speakers.

Yes I read this too, was just about to pull the trigger on one and to be honest this article and responses stopped me in my tracks! I just don’t know how bad the hum noise would be as can’t hear one first. As you say £1495 in uk at the minute though. I’m running Dali Opticon 1 with an Audiolab 6000a at the minute and wanted an upgrade as well as the streaming functionality. So I just can’t decide what to do now, the other system I have been looking at is the NAD 700c for a couple of hundred pounds less too.

As usual a great review, thankyou Andrew and Kristi. Just one question, I have been reading a few owner reviews on the Roksan Attessa Streaming Amplifier and an issue that keeps popping up is a humming noise coming from the right channel speaker. Did you guys notice this at all?

I have noticed that issue in mine. The hum has a low, consistent volume regardless of the volume. It only happens when there's no sound playing, and as soon as you start playing music, it disappears. I personally use it for streaming, and it's only on while it plays, so I have not noticed it since I originally set it up. And I agree with Andrew - the sound is incredible.

Well I can tell you that the Audiolab 7000A has no issues driving the LSR+ but I usually use my Luxman 509X for that task, but I was pleasantly surprised it drove Maggies and did a decent job. My favorite new Int. Amp goes to "MoonRiver" 404 Reference Int. That thing is remarkable, retro look but Amazing sound!

Read reviews of the Roksan components quite often in What Hi-Fi? magazine. They did well, but I've never had the opportunity to hear them. Not sure how available they were in the U.S. at that time.

I’ve known of Roksan for a long while now. At times I thought about buying a Roksan Kandy so this review had me interested. But I can’t help but think you can say features aside, this amp wins on sound etc, but when you’re actually buying something, you really do want some of the features built into the NAD. Because it’s annoying that the class D amp on my desktop ($100) has a sub out - with controls - and the Attessa doesn’t…

I would love to know how you "stream" to the device. Is it over the air (wifi or bluetooth) and/or do you use ethernet or usb to connect.

Streaming is either wifi or bluetooth. Best is via the BluOS app where you can then use your Tidal (other streaming services are available) playlists etc. But the Attessa amp can be seen (and used) by other sources also on your network (e.g. TV, laptop etc etc). Hope that helps

Pretty sure it's pronounced Rok - San After some ancient goddess. I have the 150 watt per channel k3 integrated which I bought second hand. I like the musical sound. Paired with monitor audio silver 100 7 gen. Would be great it you could get a hold of the Roksan Blak amp.
