I just wanted to share again my appreciation for this sort of reviews and the way you analyse and share your opinion in regards to steering wheels. I could be for hours listening without stop, and also give me some insights on my inclination towards one product or another. Thanks again for doing this in the way you are doing it. Much appreciated. Cheers. Ps. As someone else previously commented, I cannot wait to hear your opinions on the GSI Hyper P1, cannot wait... 😊🙂

Thanks for taking the time to post this comment. It does mean a lot to me for you to take the time to write this. Since I don't have a P1 any comments I make are only based on what I have seen, read etc. Quirk did a comparison between the x29 and the p1 from GSI in terms of their grips and he personally liked the x29 grips better. I keep hearing how heavy the p1 is in weight. Their website I believe says it is 1850g without any hub or quick release, which is about the same as the GRID RSR +/- 50g So I think the weight is up there but manageable.

@@Crispy.iRacing it has been my pleasure to leave this comment, and I genuinely appreciate your kind words. Happy to give something back to you in a similar way that your video has given enjoyment to me. Thank you also for the added information about the Hyper P1. Thank you for that great comparison. I totaly agree with the BST Pro grips (it's the only of the wheels I own). It's the reason why I not use the BST Pro so often. After a whyle my thumb hearts because the top of the grip, where the case is, press on my thumb when I turn the wheel.

Great video! For those of us who use gloves is the grip material comparison negligible? Also since the bavarian is a technicaly shaped as an f1 wheel would the driving angle at which the hands come from your GT rig play any role in those issues with the ergonomics?
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 11 месяцев назад
With the right gloves I think the VPG grip level is good enough. The grid rsr will still provide more grip, but with gloves on the VPG you don't have to hold on too tight IMO. Regarding the Bavarian wheel, yeah...if you have a laid down f1 position where your head is therefore lower than a GT sitting position, that will bring the screen more into your line of sight.

Bought the GRID Porsche RSR wheel just this week. Had it on my list for quite some time since I am a big Porsche fan, but I am also an early adopter of the new Asetek ecosystem, so I had to wait at least until Asetek came out with their universal quick release... which happened just two months ago or so. Now I pulled the trigger and I think it's really really great. Worth the money? Naaaa probably not, don't want to know how much goes to Porsche just for licensing... but it is a very nice and very good quality piece of hardware. And it's so good to drive with. I was worried a little bit about the grips, thougth they might be too small or so... but they are perfect for me. By the way, the issue with the thumbs hitting the wheel case on the Bavarian SimTec when further turning the wheel is just exactly the same issue on the Asetek Forte Formula wheel... so that is now out of the way. I still like the Forte wheel, for it's price it's a very very good wheel and of surprisingly great build quality. No machined aluminium housing but a carbon/plastic compound injection mould... but it's super sturdy, feels very good and has lots of buttons, rotary encoders and 7-way switches... but honestly I don't really miss the latter, because I couldn't use the push-button function on those properly (for example in order to dial in a setting in the pitting screens), it would most of the time be registered as a sideways click. And I had a similar problem with all my Fanatec wheels I had prior to that. So yeah... GRID Porsche RSR it is then 👍

I only use iracing and for me it has not been an issue. I have used the funky switches on other wheels for the black box but I just use other inputs on this wheel to do what I need. The thumb rotaries can be pushed in as buttons so I use that and two other buttons for black boxes.

Lol thats prolly the biggest pro for me, as if someone in this price range doesnt have a button box... especially on a replica I think funky switches are pretty stupid. I would probably still choose vpg tho just cause 700€ extra just for a porsche logo is insane. Then again I know people who own the PSE so I guess these are still cheap in comparison😂

Just an fyi, there should be no duty when shipping sim racing gear to Canada (from most places at least). The prices are mostly taxes and brokerage fees. Brokerage fees are variable depending on courier and shipping plan. Everyone is supposed to charge taxes. You can self-clear to avoid brokerage fees. Assuming you don't live in Alberta, it looks like you somehow got a deal on the Grid taxes. The others two look about correct.

While the Grid and the VPG are, in this case, GT wheels, the Bavarian is a F1 wheel. VPG has great formula wheels aswell, so it's a bit difficult to compare GT and formula wheels
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 10 месяцев назад
You are right that they are similar to F1 and gt wheels irl but in my opinion they can still be easily compared. They are all the same diameter and are more similar than different imo. Also the owner of Bavarian Kolja who uses this wheel pretty much only drives gt3 cars. Sven Hasse who is one of the fastest GT3 drivers also uses the Bavarian wheel. Of course this is only my point of view and everyone is entitled to their own point of view.
@Clay_Regazzoni
@Clay_Regazzoni 10 месяцев назад
@@Crispy.iRacing I just wanted to point to this difference. And they have all VoCore displays. What I found interesting is the height difference you mentioned. Is something I also thought about. I just don't know if one sacrifices balance and weight distribution, which is something VPG wheels are done perfect.
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 10 месяцев назад
@@Clay_Regazzoniyea the vpg wheel has done a great job on the weight distribution as a result it rotates well around the center of rotation where the grid is a little top heavy giving it slightly more momentum perhaps during rotation. For me they both feel natural however in their rotation. Not sure if the grid is more true to life in terms of its center of rotation but I did notice the rsr in game wheel in iracing seems to have the same center of rotation. Not sure if that is accurate to real world but I did notice that. I personally prefer the higher dash even with the more top heavy wheel as I drive in a more gt position. If I drove in a formula position then the Bavarian and vpg screen heights which are very similar would be fine or course.
@patrickdurka6188
@patrickdurka6188 8 месяцев назад
@@Crispy.iRacing The original Rsr Wheel has its center of rotation exactly at the middle of the Porsche Logo, so even lower that the Grid Wheel, whould have loved to see that on the grid wheel. I find it weird how high many sim wheel have that center of rotation, it should be roughly at the height of your thumbs or lower. Pretty much every real life lmp/lmdh steeringwheel has such a super low center of rotation. The original rsr wheel is also 1 or 2 cm more wide, still great sim wheels :)
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 8 месяцев назад
@@patrickdurka6188 Yeah. I looked at some in car video of the RSR wheel a long time ago and I had the impression that GRID's RSR was fairly similar rotation point...but I will have to look at that again and see...maybe my old man brain is remembering it wrong :) lol.

GRID MPX and the Bavarian SimTec One are about the same price for black friday. I know you are comparing the Pro version in this review, but which wheel do you think is better if price is the same, the BST One or MPX?
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 9 месяцев назад
I would go for the Bavarian pro over the MPX personally. But this is subjective. I found the Bavarian grip better fit my hands than the MPX being the main reason.
@CynicalManInBlack
@CynicalManInBlack 9 месяцев назад
@@Crispy.iRacing thanks for the quick reply. Is it because of the issue with the fit on the thumb knuckles you have mentioned in the MPX review? My hands are pretty small (gloves size S/8US) so I wonder if that would be an issue for me. But in terms of ergonomics of the inputs (encoders and buttons), would you say MPX is the winner? You said that rotaries were perfect while I have heard that they are stiff on BST wheels.
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 9 месяцев назад
@@CynicalManInBlackYes it was mainly the thumb area being too narrow for my wide thumb knuckles being the issue I had with the MPX, otherwise i loved that wheel. In general i like GRID products. I do think the middle thumb rotaries on the Bavarian are too stiff. The top one is a little less stiff and the bottom one is very light. So yeah that could be an issue, but I just avoided using the middle really stiff thumb rotary as there were so many rotaries to use :) With your smaller hands the mpx might be fine. I have a few teammates that have the mpx and they have no issues with the thumb area. Only one other teammate had the thumb issue like me so it is for sure user dependent.

would you trade in a Grid MPX for the Porsche wheel? Is it enough of an upgrade to justify the extra cost?
@Crispy.iRacing
@Crispy.iRacing 11 месяцев назад
Cost aside I much prefer the Grid Porsche wheel over the Grid MPX, mainly because of the thumb area on the grid being too narrow for my fat thumb knuckles and I don't like the position of the funky switches on the MPX. Is it worth the extra money? for me yes...but that is too subjective to be meaningful I think, and for sure that is entirely up to whoever is spending their money.

Hi, thanks for the question. The curve on the grid and vpg seems about the same to me actually. The VPG has larger diameter grips and a small ledge for your index finger. The perfect grip for me would be the shape of the vpg and the material from the grid.
