@@winn305 I have a decent shot -- used to haha. I am tall. In high school I used to wait to be shot on. My takedowns were usually singles that i completed by turning the corner or sneaking in an ankle pick. Being lanky, I found it hard sucking in the opponents leg and working my way up the opponents waist and torso. I was a leg wrestler, good in scrambles and couldnt be held down. Won NYS sections buy got killed in the second round at states (11-6) -- made a lot of mistakes. But even at 44 I think I can pull off this technique on my landlord 😁

@dfpguitar
@dfpguitar 5 лет назад
@@matthewhorizon6050 If you compare these to any of the other back arch techniques its is much much easier. If you have been wrestling a few months this one should be no problem. Even with the common footsweeps they depend on perfect understanding / control of which foot opponent is placing their weight and making sure they stay on it when you kick the foot out. I have not managed it yet! But with this move all you need is one arm, then you lock it to your chest and lean back which will unweight the opponent from their back foot, placing all their weight on their front foot, if you lean back/lift some more it will unweight them to the point they are airborne and reaching with the tippy toes of one foot to try reach the ground. The foot in question is the one right next to your own feet, so just move a foot forward, behind theirs and tilt them over it. Seems pretty fool proof to me. Also if you keep hold of the arm you can get the pin instantly.

@matthewhorizon6050 5 лет назад
@@jamesnieman2953 Yeah, I wrestled Too -- for 11 or 12 yrs. Maybe your point is being lost in translation and misconstrued? Drilling and working on the sharpening of technique is a process. Then fluently executing said techniques in a match is more challenging: it separates the men from the boys. I'm from Section 4 in NYS -- it's a breeding grounds for high level wrestlers. I never found it to be it as an easy endevour and was decent (won classes and sections at 145). Didn't do well in states, but I blame the bracket haha (met the previous yrs runner up at 138 and the 3rd ranked guy). My point, some wrestlers have an innate kinesthetic IQ for position and leverage. Others work hard, but those who excel in both are the best; plus, they wrestle 12 months out of the yr. Easy isn't something I associate to wrestling. Personally, there was nothing easy about the sport.

jay morris Not a Kosoto. He specifically says that he does not actually sweep the foot (as done in the traditional Kosoto Gari), but only blocks the foot. In addition, the Kuzushi is done with the grips and arm action in Judo, where as with this is done with the hips, and the arms are merely for connection/attachment. Technically totally different. Judo is awesome. Keep training if you do.

@judokapavel
@judokapavel 5 лет назад
Ko Soto Gari has a non-circular principle. I mean you kind of "rotate" around the axis of your opponent to get into the position, but then the sweep itself is not based on the opponent rotating around a pivot, he is swept directly down.

@EngineerMK2004
@EngineerMK2004 5 лет назад
@@johnsnider2956 Yes, but sasai tsuri Komi ashi makes use of uki movement. Rather, this makes use of hip action combined with a "from behind" foot positioning characteristic of ko soto gari.
@samuraisteve2775
@samuraisteve2775 5 лет назад
This is technically not a Kosoto. With a Kosoto the arm action provides the Kuzushi and you take the opponent the exact opposite direction with the Traditional way it is taught. In addition the foot literally sweeps in Judo, hence the name. With this the arms are only for connection/attachment, the hips break the balance and posture, and the foot only blocks and does not sweep. As mentioned above, a good eye sees parts from several different throws, with this variation having a unique angle of attack. Bruce Lee said, “efficiency is anything that scores.” If anyone has success with their technique good job. A rose by any other name... When you translate Judo to English, you realize the names are very accurately descriptive, so if you want to go back to any traditional reference material for Judo this will be nothing like what you find.

If someone is not familiar with or has ever even seen the attack before, they have no idea what they are defending against. This is a great attack and the Russian is a great transitional position, too. Easy to get to the back from there where you have virtually limitless throwing opportunities. Rome was not built in a day. Play with it live and you will discover some cool stuff on your own, most likely...if you stay with it.
