People don't realize what a finely tuned sense the lateral line is. Muddy water or at night, fish have no problem finding your bait. And those lipless cranks are such a versatile lure. Multiple ways to fish them, and they work great in those low visibility situations. They're probably my favorite lure on the power fishing side.
I read in a book called “Knowing Bass” that they have lateral lines across the top of the skull. They use it for close up inspection of potential prey items.

Great video, Jeff, as always. That motor is a game changer and a life saver! Reminds me of the first time I went on the Kiskiminetas River. Failed to look at USGS, and it was twice as high, fast and muddy as hell. I tried to paddle upstream, but only got about a 1/4 mile, till I gave up and anchored off near shore. Found the fish, though, as they were at the shore, also! One set up shop, right under my kayak. Keep the awesome vids coming! 👍
Thanks. I live near a muddy river. I usually drive an hour to get to the bay and fish salt water in the kayak. But it would be nice to learn to fish fresh water when I don't feel like making the longer drive. I will try again, using some of these techniques. Now I will also look at your channel for a video on the motor.
That kayak is a Wilderness Systems ATAK 120. I think that at the time, I was still using the Torqeedo Ultralight 403AC. The 1103 came later, and provided much more power to shoot up through that much current!
Dave Thompson Thanks Dave. I actually chose a more calm area to fish. I don’t know if I would feel as comfortable at 10 feet targeting some of the big ledge areas I normally fish.
Best to save them for special occasions. I have some jerkbaits I use that are in the same category. I can't find them anymore and bought them from Japan probably 15 to 20 years ago. I use them sparingly now. lol tight lines from Rick
