You can use an inspection mirror and a flashlight to see the fuel pump mounting bolts. You also want to remove the two pieces on the fuel pump (that require a seal plate) to have enough room to access the two mounting bolts on the right. Also, I think the bolts require a 5/8” socket. It’s a tighter fit than a 16 mm.
You have to replace the two high pressure fuel lines that go from the pump to the common rail. They are single use and are very thin. I didn't replace mine and one of them suddenly split a few months later.
My idle was up and down. And sometimes the engine would shut down by itself. I replaced the crank filter, fuel pump and oil suction manifold at the same time. All problems were gone. Engine has stability to ride. No shutting down. It works evenly at 600 RPM.
@@rodneyjohnson2064 I bought all part at the same time at the dealer, and I got a good discount. To replace the high pressure pump, you need the pump ($1,084.38+ $420.00 core deposit), gasket (I do not know the price, I did not buy it, the original was in good condition), fuel hoses and fuel pipes (I did not buy them, I screwed them off and then in very carefully; I have driven over 15k miles already with no problems). The new fuel filters (around $65) and 2 gallons of diesel (to put it directly into the new fuel filters). The first time I did this work, it took me around 4-8 hours (it was raining outside and it depends on time it takes to unscrew a couple bolts from the left side of the pump). Oil separator filter (crank filter A4720106662) ($317.94) less than one hour of work. Oil suction ($131.03), 4 seals ($47.74, 5W40 oil 13 gallons (around $286) and oil filter (around $40) I lifted up the truck for awhile (I was on the side of the road) Work time is from 4-6 hours. Vladimir Minerva . I am thinking about replacing my fuel pump as well. My idle is up and down as well, rough idle and sometimes it sounds like it wants to turn off, but it doesn't. A mechanic checked it for metal and found nothing he said to keep running it like that. Another mechanic suggested that my metering control valve be replaced. Then I saw other video where a guy replaced the fuel filters and his problem was solved. I am curious because refuel pump replacement is just about $2,600 parts and labor here in CA. ANY suggestions?
