This is a video I watched while training for my Wildland Fire Cert. I felt like it had a great message and believe every company officer should watch.

I have been to several of his classes in my 24 years with the California Highway Patrol. Gordon was a Sergeant with the CHP at my first time seeing him. He loves to make fun and crack jokes about the higher ranks. He had a way of irritating those in command, yet C.Y.A. at the same time. He was just plain smarter that bosses and was always about 10 steps ahead of them.

Gordon Graham is by far one of the best speakers in the country when it comes with emergency services. His philosophy crosses over

Absolutely one of the best leadership and personal accountability videos! I have seen a lot from the Marine Corps and the Fire Service and this one always sticks with me in my decision making.

Gordy knows how to talk to his target audience. He's brilliant, yet funny and interesting. I've seen him a couple of times, and both times he kept his audience glued to him until the very end. A natural speaker, and leader.

I saw GG 18 years ago and was amazed at his ability to take complicated topics and make them simple enough for an average assistant DA like myself to understand. I emailed him right after he spoke and through the years kept in contact with him. Nine years ago I went to work for him writing policy manuals. I can tell you that he is the real deal, a genuine, caring individual, and if you have the chance to see him speak, bring your boss, your spouse, your kids...bring anyone you can...and send him a message afterward. He will respond. Thanks for posting this video of my dear friend.

It's always good when someone takes a bunch of common sense, like oils on a pallet and paints a picture so easy to see, Well presented, thank you!

Gordon Graham presented at a Salvation Army fundraising conference a few years back! Totally different type of audience but we were on the edge of our seats. He teaches the concept of high risk, low frequency so well. It has stayed with me all these years.

I have a long history in skydiving, Instructor for over 30 years. In training, and in competition, we have the saying "Slow is Fast" - take the time to learn it, take the time to PRACTICE it, and when it comes time to DO it, "take your time". We spend HOURS on the ground, training for mere minutes or seconds in the air - so that we will do the RIGHT thing, straight up, when we absolutely NEED to get it right. And now I'm a volunteer firefighter, "training young firefighters how to be old firefighters" - and I will be showing this video soon at our weekly training.

Perhaps the engineers at Fukushima Daiichi should have taken his seminar before their power plant was destroyed.... Nuclear Power Plant = High Risk ... Earthquake and Tsunami = Low Frequency. And, of course no time to think it through.

He said "Baskin Robbins" by the way when you heard the horn around 1:30 ... I'm not sure why they bleeped it out. I read lips for a living.

I have seen Gordon twice last century. I don't think I can see a mattress tied down in the back of a truck without thinking of him and his stories. He would have made a great judge.

Featuring such classics as "Always opt for the V8 folks; because Mr. Floppy Mattress is lurking out there on a highway near you!?" Funniest safety course ever.

@@mornbar1 I actually caught a pic of Mr. Floppy Mattress in my hometown. Sent it to him and he appreciated the effort. Saw him 10-12 yrs ago in S. Portland Maine .. had him for a day of lectures. I was lucky to share a lunch table with him...we had a great conversation.

DEI has entered the chat. Now, thanks to lowering of standards, doing it "by the book" results in a higher probability of disastrous results. Thanks DEI! 🤪

Interesting talk but I actually think this misses out on one of the biggest issues in the fire service which is complacency emerging around high risk high frequency events. Eg gas leaks, vehicle accidents, EMS calls with behavioral issues
