Just to clarify Zac was off filming "Hairspray" during the time of the "High School Musical Tour" Drew did in fact sing all of the songs throughout the first movie due to Zac not being able to reach high notes. Though Zac didn't completely sing in the first film, he did perform his own songs in the last two sequels. The song writers wrote songs for Zac in more of a low vocal range, so he would be able to perform the songs. Edit: I didn’t know this comment was gonna get this many likes or replies. 😂 Yes, Zac did sing a few lines in some of the songs. Zac only sings the first four lines of “The Start of Something New”, the first sentence of “Breaking Free”, and during the balcony scene. The remainder of these songs were sang by Drew. Drew sang “Get’cha Head in the Game” and the reprise of “What I’ve Been Looking For” in its entirety. Zac didn’t do his own singing until the sequels, all of the music in the sequels had been tailored to fit his vocals.
TheMikeandStephShow i knew that zac efron lip sinked but i didnt know that he didnt sing breaking free ,which has made me really disappointed, its not right to see him do it and not zac , i love hairspray but the fact that zac efron moved on so quickly i think is awful :(,not trying to hate or anything but thats not even right !
Wtf. HSM was my childhood and I only just found out Drew was the one who sang Zac's parts (found out from from the comments in the sing along vid ABC posted today).
I found this out when i watched an interview with zac and he didn’t know any of the hsm songs... I’m like uhhh wtf how wouldn’t he, he sang em... I found out drew sang em I felt duped 😂
Zac did sing some sections. There was a mix between Drew and Zac because just hear his voice in this video and then the movie. You wil notice like two voices in a few sections.
I don’t see many artist sounding the same live as they do in the studio, for obvious reasons. But Drew sounds almost exactly the same. I love it. I remember when my young stupid self learned it wasn’t really Zac Efron singing I was like what kind of sorcery is this. 😂
Drew, as an actor, is too bold. It can't work well since Vanessa has to act shy and reserved. It looks weird, also because in the movie, Zac's supposed to be unsure of who he is, Drew's just to confident to look the part XD Drew sings better though :D
+BellaLovesPewDiePie I don't think Troy knows who he really is in any of the movies. In all 3 he is just trying to do what he thinks is the right thing and ends up hurting people in the process....which then of course he breaks out into a dramatic song and then apologizes and everyone loves him again
Actually, Drew got offered the role.. But he chose Another cinderella story with Selena Gomez, and turned this role down but was asked to sing for it as Zac couldn't hit the high notes. He agreed and they then mixed Drew and Zacs voices together to the first movie
@Shane Krisiah Gabat I think this was actually meant as a compliment to the fact, that he sounds the same singing live as he sounds on the studio recording done for the movie. Lots of especially pop singers sound much worse singing live than on studio recordings. Drew is professionally trained, if I remember correctly he studied musical theather and that is basically classical voice training (opera). So no wonder, he can sing 🙂
After all of these years......and I all of a sudden, right at this moment, find out that zac Efron isn't the one who sang these songs in high school musical. My heart just broke:( now I'm upset.
Two reasons for that would be: 1. If one microphone stopped working they would have a spare and 2. Half of the songs they sung in this concert had dance moves that require a lot of hand movement and the other half were sung without dancing.
I seriously though the reasone was because that this scene is in the auditorium where they would actually need a mic to sing and this is just a homage to that
Back when I was a kid, I’m confusingly mad watching this “stranger” guy with Gabriella. I was like, that was supposed to be Troy Bolton and not this stranger guy.. but why his voice sounds like Troy??? 🤣
I think they used Zac's vocals for the opening line "soaring flying, theres not a place in heaven that we can reach" but then the rest is Drew. Like you can hear a big difference. They did that for a couple of the songs in HSM1. Like Zac opens with low notes and then its Drew for the rest.
For those wondering, Zac Efron’s voice was still changing at the time they were filming the first HSM, so that’s why Drew stepped in to do most of the singing. & Zac wasn’t part of this concert because he was filming the movie “Hairspray” at the time
I remember years ago when they first brought out High School Musical Live Concert and when they made out Zac Efron couldn't make so they replaced him with Drew Seeley but the truth was Zac couldn't hit the high notes in the first film and it was Drew Seeley's voice all along. After we heard it in the concert everyone was like the voice is identical, it's actually Drew's voice not Zac
I know this is the person who sang zacs voice in hsm 1, but I really wished that zac was there instead of him. There's no sparks while they sang, no chemistry. But if zac was there the chemistry zanessa had would've made the whole song feel like it was in the movie. So sad
jOHNATHAN RAND Why the fuck are you commenting on others posts with negativity? You’re a fuck wit with no friends obviously. Try being nice for once, if that’s even possible
It’s just because this was near the end of the show after they sang for 2 hours they’re fatigued here. When a singer’s voice gets tired it starts to change the tonality, just check out the full concert of any great live vocalist like Beyonce or Adele, there’s a drastic difference between their first song and their last song. Not to say their last songs is bad, it’s just different, the voice is a muscle.
The funnest part about this is that Zac and Vanessa were dating at this point in time, it’s almost like a full circle: Zac stole his film, so Drew stole his girl!
And so I knew Joey Parker first before I knew Drew Seeley played Troy in HSM concert. At that time I was really looking down on him for singing songs that I considered bad and just so whatever but here right now I want to apologise! He sings so good! He reached that high note effortlessly! And man they way he looked at Vanessa was something else. Too bad Vanessa likes Zac lol
Actually, for some weird reason, Zac sang the first lines of this song in the movie. The difference in their voices is so obvious, you really can tell when it goes from Zac to Drew in the song.
Zac isn't in this because for the first movie. They combined both Drew's voice and Zac's voice. As Zac's was in the middle of breaking, and Drew filled in the notes he couldn't hit. And so they put Drew in the concert cause it's alot of his voice on the original track. And Zac had other commitments. That Drew guy sings amazing live though. I feel bad for him. He got no credit for all the work he put into HSM1, And also if you just listen to the first compared to the 2nd. You can tell.
drew seeley is the vocals behind troy ( zac efron) ,, we all know zac couldnt sing for the movie lol until he stared doing hairspray . drew has been a singer on very few disney channel songs . he also has his own album. other than that he is very hidden ... he has some serious talent .. just so hidden ;/
Yes. The only thing Zac sang in High School Musical 1 was the first and last line of "Start of Something New" and the first line of "Breaking Free." Official fact, and common sense if you listen to the recording track cause it's so damn obvious.
