"If you're going to be an uptempo team you are leaving the check world." Man you dropped a gem on me. I was shooting myself in the foot trying to go uptempo with wayyy too many check with me's. Great vid
If you are 1 back I suggest double reading the ILB to OLB on the play side with the running back or free releasing the running back in the route and throwing hot if that edge player rushes .
Once again coach great video, We used a 6 man blocking scheme every time we passed the ball. With the tags -60, and 61- for the call 60, the right side of the line including the center has the gape to their right. Center has A, Guard B, and Tackle C. Now the backside Guard and Tackle have a man blocking scheme. The back side Guard has the first man inside, if he has a three technique thats his first threat. Tackle has the end. Coach your lineman to "stay home" and not to chase their man. That way you don't have a Defencive end coming up the backside A gap and hitting you in the mouth. I know you utilize the pistol formation. Which is great for this scheme. The back will work to the man side of the scheme, he works inside threat to outside. If no one shows, have hime chip the end. So 60 he works left. 61 he works right. Three playside linemen have the two down players and the linebacker. Now if you have a 3 man front. Apply the rules it becomes a four man gap protection and a lone tackle with man protection. We had a lot of success with this scheme and had a great draw play off it. If you have any questions about it just PM me. Im sure i made explaining it more complicated than usual.
Hey coach, I'm brand new to Outside Linebacker at the High School level. Last year I played MLB but this year I'm moving to outside. If you could make a video about the "way to play OLB" I really need help on pass protection thanks! that would be great I really appreciate it.
Love the way you break things down coach. Very appreciative for the knowledge. Quick question. Is this the only scheme you work? Or do you switch things up according to how many guys you want in protection? Seems flexible and simple enough.
Center has to turn away from the call so he can protect the QB'S back with the zone side. QB can see blitzes coming frontside so he can protect himself
+Thomas MacPherson Coach Mac - for quick game, if you throwing right, you'd full slide covering your left gap. Would you let the playside end go free if he's outside shade?
As an up tempo team we try very hard to not change anything once it's called, we will freeze at times to get a picture and then make s better call. We want answers built into plays that handle bad looks, gotta live with that mindset and get a better play called next.
