Great video. At 19:47 we see the line sort for the Nickel Will. With the nickel dropping, the Packers get the RG and RT on 52, as well as the triple on 91. They solved two potential problems there.

I love the sarcasm about the complexity of this scheme. It kept making me laugh.

In football, we love to make it sound really complex & difficult. The reality is that it's really not... unless somebody makes it that way.

What are differences with higher number zones? I think we mostly understand Covers 1-4, but what about 5 and up? I just learned that Cover 6 is a combination of Cover 2 and 4. I would like to know what wrinkles are in the higher ones.

CAPAE cover 7 and 8 are a little more complex. These are quarters coverages or “pattern matching”

Quick question, is there ever a two-way go type of pass pro? What I mean is instead of a RB watching multiple LBs they read one D lineman? For instance, say you have a 5 tech on your left tackle. Could you slide right for everyone except the LT and your RB reads that DE? The tackle takes that DE wherever he goes. If he stays outside the RB fills the B gap which has been opened by the tackle going with the DE to the C gap and the LG going right with the slide to the A gap. If the DE slants inside, the tackle stays with him and the RB then fills the C gap. Idk if I’m making any sense or not, but I was just thinking of ways to where the back doesn’t have to read multiple LBs and all gaps are accounted for. You could wind up in a situation where a stunt causes the RB to have to pick up a D lineman so I would imagine if something like this even exists, it would only be used on quick throws.
@TheQBSchool
@TheQBSchool 3 года назад
I’m having a hard time following. In full slide pro the back can end up on a DE. In the League, this is usually not the match up most teams are looking for too often.
@a.spellman5481
@a.spellman5481 3 года назад
@@TheQBSchool right, so to avoid that match up the line slides right except for the LT. So in this example four lineman are sliding instead of all five with each of those four covering the gap to their right. The LT takes the 5 tech DE no matter if he goes towards the B or C gap (if he attacked the B gap then it would look like full slide since the LT follows him). Once the DE attacks a gap, the RB fills the opposite one so every gap is covered and you keep the LT on the DE instead of the RB like in a full slide. It still might not make sense, I probably need a white board, but the idea of it is every gap is covered like in full slide, but you don't have the mismatch of a DE on a RB

It all depends on their tendencies and what they show in game. You plan for a lot and go with what might be best....and THAT is the first part of the chess game of football

12:20 I think you mislabel this play. Isn't the same on the line of scrimmage making that S Linebacker actually a Safety?
@TheQBSchool
@TheQBSchool 3 года назад
Maybe but I don’t think so. This is the nuance part. It depends on Gameplan, personnel, and look. To me, the mike, most often, is the middle of the three linebacker types. Not necessarily the true Mike. Can have safeties as LBer types. Hope that makes sense. So it’s formation, D look, and play. Probably why so many peeps struggle to piece it together. In short, mike is usually the middle of the three linebacker types.

@@TheQBSchool I think he's making the point that it's an Under front, and that guy is a drop-down $ guy versus an Even-front Sam. So you've got an eight-man box with a potential 4 Strong threat. How do you account for the Sam as a 7? Are you going to declare the $ guy and potentially leave Will unblocked on the blind side? Or do you tag Y as a hot vs. $ blitzing? Seems like there's a lot of trouble there potentially. I see what you're saying above, but IMHO there's a little more nuance in that particular situation. You do brush past it at 17:00.
@Ironmonk036
@Ironmonk036 3 года назад
@@TheQBSchool That I'm saying is that in that diagram, you got LBs label as Squares. I don't believe this is a 4-4 front but rather a 4-3 under or over. Because of that, that square you marked as "S" is probably a "SS". Unless this is a 4-6 defense, its rare to see a SS on the line of scrimmage.
@oversizedopinion1512
@oversizedopinion1512 3 года назад
Phillip Emery I was actually wondering this as well. I think you’re only option is to tag Y hot vs blitzing $. If not and they both come you’re pretty much screwed.
@phillipemery572
@phillipemery572 3 года назад
@@oversizedopinion1512 I guess you could have the outside blocker double-read the Sam and the $, and just take the inside of the two if they both come. Inside guy takes the Mike, line takes the Will. It'd be a rare thing for somebody to bring both in reality, especially in a situation where 21 personnel is going to make sense. Probably a situation that would come up maybe once a year, if that.
