Things I didn't have time to talk about/draw but wanted to mention: -when the curtains fell during intermission we liked to dance goofily in the dark right on the stage to get rid of the stage fright jitters in preparation for act 2 haha -group trip to Denny's after the last day of the shows. Every time.
That is an interesting way of solving the issue. Wouldn't have work in my elementary school because it was a private Christian school and my high schools had plenty of guys interested in the theatre and arts. Still, I have seen girls play guy roles because we had a lot more girls in our year. One year, the Christmas pageant had three girls (I was one of them) playing the Three Kings.
@@Little1Cave Sadly I don't know of any, would love a series about that; some of my favorite episodes in slice of life high school shows are when they do plays. It comes up a few times in Girls' Monthly Nozaki-kun b/c two MCs are in the theater club 😜
The only thing you shouldn' give me is any type of guns (but if theres no bullets that fine cuz i can close range combat with it if it has a knife on it) and long weapons
Mr C being an OG sass queen Theatre was my jam, I was my teacher’s favourite because I was one of the students who was actually enthusiastic about theatrics, an already loud person, and was decently good in the productions. They weren’t big budget productions but it was still the highlight of my high school experience
I joined theatre for the 1st time in 7th grade, when my general anxiety about stuff was at its peak. and I gotta say, something about the way you just drop your shame at the door when you step into a meeting really helped me. like, if you look or feel stupid, chances are so does everyone else and it's honestly so fun
I love theater. It is my main hobby besides singing and it’s kind of like therapy. I love the feeling at the very end with the audience clapping and cheering. It always makes me smile out of sentiment at how far we’ve come with the show
@@bethany7706 lmaoooo you musta changed ur name and pfp when this video came out... i applaud u good ma’am or sir 👏 😂 even tho i dont normally sub to ppl who dont post anything imma be ur first sub
Your videos are like a soothing massage for the soul. Between the always adorable art style and your light-hearted story telling, I keep coming back to your videos when I just need to feel…good. Thank you for always putting so much love into these 😁
Seeing someone else enjoy theatre and talking about it is really awesome. As a fellow stage actor I and can say that the anxiety and pain that is involved with acting is just like your experience. It really brings a smile to my face to see someone talking about acting in this way. Though I late to comment on this, it awesome to see. Keep up the great videos, my favorite RU-vidr 🥹.
My brain: * doesn't remember 90% of what happened in my High School days * Also my brain: *_The remaining 10% are just embarrassing moments that I cant forget_*
You know what? I´ve seen this video over 30 times already and I keep coming back to it a few times each year. I just love the story and how you tell it, so what the heck, i´ll say it. This is my favorite video in youtube. Once and again, thanks Emi.
“It’s not that you can’t play a mean character, it’s just that Bethany won’t be able to play a nice one.” *My new favourite teacher, forever.* Edit: *Omg thanks for 2k likes, this is the most likes I've ever gotten*
Ah yes theater, good times. I loved being part of the Sound and Light crew. We had the power to turn off all the mics and lights and make your life miserable if we lost respect. We control the show, you are all the puppets. I miss those days.
My drama teacher was a very nature-loving hippie esque type. She'd take students out hiking to pick mushrooms and forage in the woods! I gifted her a mug with mushrooms on it that i found in a second hand store- she adored it and used it every day the rest of the time i went to school ^^ when i had the flu she even came to my dorm room with ginger and honey tea- and during covid i was the only one she hugged goodbye. She helped me through some tough times and i miss her a lot 🥲 i might pay her a visit when i graduate uni(that i only got into because she was supporting me)
As a theatre kid, I ADORE theatre. I love seeing other people's experience's, cause to me one of the best parts about theatre is all about how each show is super unique!
I agree, theatre is really a good extra-curricular activity (even for those who does not like acting/performing). I just wanted to say that theatre is not limited to performing alone. (I was part of a mini-theatre production in our school once; a stage manager to be precise). For those who has stage fright or bad at acting (like me), you can always try backstage roles like director, stage manager, dramaturg, production designer, etc. They are a bit overlooked per se.
I go to a large school with a VERY competitive drama program, and very soon I’ll be attending another school with an even more competitive one. Already, the current cast I’m in is about 60 people, and about 70 were cut. Theatre is something I’m very passionate about and I highly reccomend trying it, I just hope to soon get a larger role in a production (possibly in a less competitive program lol)
My freshman year we performed Enron, which has only 1 female + chorus and is mostly male. We nad a lot of good female actors tho and a shortage of males so we had Femron instead. Everyone loved it
I did my first musical this year! We’re a small town, so we cast everyone, and it was really fun. And then the teacher who’s directed for about the last 5 years was fired. Coincidentally, this teacher taught choir as well as part of speech and directed colorguard. Great.
I can relate so hard to this one. I took theater just recently in my senior year - and it was the best decisions I had ever made. I started on tech crew but decided to audition for the last show of the year. Also can’t believe how similar the dropout experience was - We also had a dropout… except that mine had 3 dropouts. It was definitely an experience to pick up extra roles but we made it through.
Those things are pretty rigged, aren't they? A bunch of kids each has to cater to the same audience with not much of a way to make their stuff more appealing to buy since IIRC you can neither change the price nor the product sold, so you can only really get ahead (and get the prizes for selling a certain amount) by buying your own product, not to mention the fact that 8-year-old kids don't exactly get their own money to spend so they have to ask their parents, further reducing your audience, so unless you try to cater to a different audience by selling to the public (which your parents might not approve of and is hard to do) you can't really do much to fundraise other than, as I said, buy your own stock.
And me buying at least 4 bars a day when classmates were selling them. I swear, this is almost like drug dealing, except the habit is more pleasant and tasty.
No way, you did Comedy of Errors! I did too! We combined it with Loves Labors Lost as a two week intensive during the summer. Yeah, we learned everything in two weeks and then performed at the end. I was cast at the Governor's Wife. What you described for the scene where Antipholus threatens to claw out Adrianna's eyes sounds a lot like how it was directed in my production. The more we practiced it, the angrier and more intense it got. I think it really added to things. The rest of the play is really hilarious, and then you get this, where things are suddenly very real.
5:38 my theater teacher actually told my class, “nobody is going to care or notice if you switch up the words a little, we’re just here for the performance.”
The fact that your teacher made your friend play an LGBTQ+ character and her accepting it, both doing it without a problem, even as a backup plan because of the genders, really shows that teaching your kid about the LGBTQ+ community isn't that big of a deal.
Yes, but that’s high school. If you’re forcing this upon little kids you’re just gonna confuse them and they might make decisions they could regret in the future. It’s the same reason people don’t let little kids get permanent tattoos.
@@oinkitysploink2213 but how does teaching them about it do any harm it does not hurt them it teaches them knew stuff that could help them from having a real hard time later down the line and if they think there one thing unlike a tatoo it can change ya know so they can just later decide ya know what I was that back then but I have changed and am now this
@@oinkitysploink2213 Telling them LGBTQ people exist and that it's okay isn't forcing anything. There's a lot of differences here. 1. Your orientation isn't a choice, who you date is but if we're talking about younger kids they hopefully aren't dating anyways. 2. I'm good with telling kids that tattoos exist and that people who have them are fine. 3. Tattoos are a problem because they permanently change your body forever. Labels are fine and all but if you think you're a lesbian and later realize you aren't it's not like there's a law against saying "oops nevermind". Again going with the analogy if my kid puts on a temporary tattoo and changes it later then that's fine, being young is all about exploring who you are anyways.
@@stars4809 what’s the point of even teaching them if they don’t even understand what any form of sexuality is yet? Just like current sex Ed in schools, It’s best to wait until they’re in fifth grade at the earliest, I say.
@@oinkitysploink2213 cause on the off chance they do feel attraction to someone you don’t want them feeling like something is wrong with them and they gotta change and also lgbtqia+ is not just orientation there are genders too which many kids can find out pretty young with the right Information
Imagine if Jesus just put his chocolate bar aside while cleaning his desk, intending to eat it right after the lesson And Emily just straight up deprived that guy from his after school snack
I was part of stage crew for 4* (it's complicated) years and even initially went to college for Theatre technology (college for stage crew lmao). theatre is a wild experience, both in good and bad ways but I always recommend people try it, at least once because it can be a huge confidence booster.
You guys are so lucky you have theater, in my country its not a class we can take, and if we can it's only a one year thing with a half assed teacher :/
I was in a Shakespeare play before, so I know how hard it is to learn. We also had someone who didn't show up a lot, but that was mainly because he couldn't, and yet he was amazing during the show along with being a main character for one of the 3 groups (We were doing Midsummer Nights Dream, so there's a lot going on). Theatre is a blessing and it gives you so many skills that can help you in life. Thank you for sharing your theatre experience!
@@user-yd6sb2ol6z Isn't redpill the "hard to swallow pill"? So, the hardest pill for you to swallow... is supporting LGBT+ folks, right? Wouldn't that be redpilled? Anyways, you're cringe lmfao.
The sweet girl of the class playing the mean, b*tchy wife, and the school brat playing her sweet sister in honestly so appealing to me like- it’s literally movie plot material. I’m surprised mister C didn’t originally cast you like this. X)
@LilyTDG Ochako uraraka It's not swearing. They literally mean she was acting like a pregnant female dog. Besides, even if it were misused, it'd be cussing, not swearing.
I think it has been 7 years since the last time I set foot on stage. I miss theater. I think you just inspired me to go back and try for my Uni theater club!
a moment of respect that emirichu was honest and did not lie about bethanys performance edit: OH MY GOD THE AMOUNT OF LIKES CAUGHT ME OFF-GAURD THANK YOU!!
I watched this the day before the first day of middle school and I had theatre arts in my schedule so I was super excited and honestly it’s been so much fun!!
I love theatre, too! And I'll always advocate for it in high school. Even if you don't appear on stage, there's tons of opportunities backstage, from lighting to set building to costumes to stage management. You gain a lot of confidence in yourself, make great friends...and get ALL the gossip!!
I saw "The comedy of errors" but it was all modern and part of it was in Spanish as well as a role that acted in the audience (that also spoke primarily in Spanish) to encourage audience members to comment on the play, it was really fun. It was part of an event that a local theater was doing where they did a bunch of musicals.
Awesome vid Emirichu! For all those who haven’t done or are going to be in a play. Being on stage isn’t so bad. This is coming from someone who gets nervous just talking to people and (I’m taking Spanish) when speaking in a different language I just freeze up. You just need to trust the blocking and the people around you.
Just finished my last performance in the pit orchestra for my schools musical and it was such a good experience I wish I wasn’t graduating this year so I could do it again
That no glasses hack is super smart! As someone who’s also blind and interested in doing theater I’ll most likely be using it when I hopefully start preforming in the musical my schools doing (ofc in order to do that I have to know what part I got, but either way thanks for the helpful hack Emily 👍)
As someone who's been in community theater for over 12 years, I can confirm that nothing is worse than having a cast member who isn't putting the work in that everyone else is. (It's usually the one who tries to backseat direct, too.)
Some Mortal one day I walked into a bathroom and some kid just gave me a dollar which confused me then the next day I walked into a classroom to talk to the teacher then while I was leaving another random kid gave me a dollar
