The new Skoda Fabia is $13,000 higher than the last time we saw this hatch in Australia. Now priced at $37,990 driveaway, the 2023 Fabia Monte Carlo Edition 150 is a bigger, more refined, more powerful, higher-tech vehicle - but is the price too high? Considering the new Fabia 110TSI now falls between a Volkswagen Polo 85TSI Style (about $35K driveaway) and a 147TSI GTI (about $43K driveaway), perhaps it makes sense.
We will drive the new Skoda Fabia next month in August 2022. For now, Chasing Cars editor Tom Baker shows you around the fourth-generation Fabia Monte Carlo pointing out the increased size and new features for that higher new price.

I have a 2019 Fabia and a 2021 Scala, both terrific cars but the Fabia is much more fun to drive and the 1.0 engine is a great unit. Shame they aren't bringing the "standard" fabia in.

Wow new car prices are up at least 10k and yes an A1 or Polo sit in this class which makes a base Corolla Golf and Scala look good value - I can also see why so many MG3 on roads as even a Swift is a high 20s car now - plus supply seems so constrained as local Ford dealer has no stock except for a few Rangers - interesting times 🥺

Great review but the price has shot up since the the Series 3. I bought the Run out Wagon but with a manual for over $10,000 cheaper even with similar spec headlights, hands free entry and the same darn steering wheel. My fuel economy is better than the 1.5 (should as it having a 1 litre). I really do like the series 4 Skoda but I'll wait for a non Monte Carlo version and see if it comes with a manual gearbox like the Scala.

@@chasingcars I’ve been trying to find out about PHEV Škodas coming to Australia currently labelled iV in Europe. The work is that these are not under consideration, but the Enyiaq, which is full electric is. The only possibility of PHEVs coming is when new iterations are developed and our market is planned for. Hopefully this will include other fully EV models they produce.

@@indetailcarcaresolutions3770 It's the fully electric Skodas which bear the IV (Intelligent Vehicle) badge, which at the moment is the Enyaq, in both standard and Coupe versions..... I think a number of Skoda PHEV models are transitioning to newer technology, hence there not being the production capacity to send any to Oz.... at least not yet. But that's more or less what you said anyway.... Skoda needs a Golf sized electric car asap...... and I gather the Scala is being dropped to make way for that.

Interesting subtle differences to NZ spec - in NZ comes std with 17” wheels (18” Libra a $2255 option), but comes std with paddles for DSG. Pano roof is also available option (+$2070). Weirdly although the std lighting package seems to match Australia, there appears to still be a $2470 upgrade lighting option available. Also option packs called winter ($700) and park assist ($990). So theoretical can spec this to NZ$50k ($39999 base)

Nice review Tom. A couple of points. Remember, a car this size is a family car is Europe/UK hence the vents and detail in the back seat. Auto unlocking doors were in my 81TSI wagon I bought new in 2017. It came as part of the Tech pack. Also, I think you mean tombstone seats. i haven’t heard them called coffin seats before. Skoda are correct about buyer wants. It’s a rare Aussie that’s wants the base model. Also, we are not a big enough market to have the system in Europe where you start with the base model and tick boxes. The fact Skoda offers a choice to add one or two ‘packs’ is pretty amazing these days. Most companies just offer various levels! Still, you review has me missing my Fabia 81TSI 3 cylinder wagon so it’s time to jump in my new Kodiaq and have my Skoda experience! Lloyd
