I did the full circuit of 12 Munros back in 1995 starting at the Mullardoch House hotel. I did them in two days with an overnight camp just below 3000ft near the summit of Mullach na Dheirgain. Loving your videos but they remind me how little technology we had back then. Just the SMC and Butterfield books, OS Maps, compass and our imagination.

I bet that was a fantastic trip Nigel! In a way I’m slightly jealous of how little technology there was - maybe makes for a purer experience? But it does come in handy! Cheers, James

Beautiful film of a beautiful day. I reckon you can see the Carn Eige / Mam Sodhail twins from over 100 other Munros, so you'll get lots of reminders of this day

Quite a hard day, so well done for finding the extra time for gathering all that footage for the video. Being more-or-less bed-ridden now I am happily reliving my 21 year Munro journey through your own beautifully filmed series of stories. My grateful thanks.

You are a fine film maker...love what you have done: the brevity of each film, the right balance of speech and views, the music and any film with Lexie is complete. Just watched your Being na Lap video and it's my favourite yet. I'm an auld yin and I'm living the Munros (again) through your terrific diary. All the best for your journey.

Did the same circuit with the dog a couple of weeks ago. Very hot and I was surprised how steep the rock stack climb was on the approach to Carn Eighe but the views as you say are stunning.

Why it was demoted baffles me. By any accepted definition of a Munro, Sgurr na Lapaich fits the bill perfectly. Its height is not in question, meaning its demise comes from whether there is “sufficient separation” from neighbouring hills - a term open to any number of interpretations, though the character of the hill and the time taken to travel between it and its nearest peak are taken into consideration. An accepted level of separation has been deemed to be 30 minutes walking time using Naismith’s rule. My rough route plan had the summit over 3.5km away from Mam Sodhail and with 170m height gain to be negotiated, meaning the walking time would be more than an hour.And as for character, this original Munro is a prominent landmark in Glen Affric and in my view deserves its place back on the list! Perhaps it suffers from the fear of confusion with its namesake a few miles away in Mullardoch.
@ScottishMunroJourney
@ScottishMunroJourney 2 года назад
It makes no sense to me, the view of it from Glen Affric is spectacular! Would be interested to know the exact reason for demotion, Have done a lot of munros that don’t deserve munros status as much as Sgurr Na Laipach. Hope they upgrade it one day, will boost my total since I have done it 😂
@HighlandHikers
@HighlandHikers 2 года назад
Compare it to Tolmount and Tom Buidhe in the Cairngorms and it becomes even more baffling. The route between them is slightly over 2km with about 70m of descent and ascent between them. Even in a straight line the height gain is about 120m.

Great video James.... I remember doing my first round of Munro's and all the top's and doing ever bigger day's, what I learned from that is, if you do big groups at a time and you're in and out in a day or two you never get a good prospective of what the area is really like, doing the second round I sometimes would have no memory of doing some hill's, so going back to finish hill's in the same area can be a good thing.👍
@ScottishMunroJourney

Thanks Jim, I think your right with that - It’s better to take in the area and appreciate it 😁 are you enjoying the second round as much as the first? Cheers, James

Hi James, finished the 2nd round 4 years ago, most of the way through the Corbetts now. It was just a thought as I remember doing all the Mamors and top's in a day from Kinlochleven and when I went to help my friend do the Ring of Steal I found I really didn't know much about that area because I'd only done the Ridge. Cheers Jim, once again enjoying your videos. 👍

@@ScottishMunroJourney I might do the Affric Kintail way this winter and explore a Munro or two along the way. I went for a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and a wide angle prime cine lens! It's meant to have amazing image quality for filming, although 100% manual so no autofocus or the like. I'd better get learning how to use it properly!

Interesting question about the demotion, what is also interesting is that Scotland is bouncing back from the weight of the ice from the last ice age making mountains higher but will that be offset by rising sea levels.

Its a strange one - it certainly looks like a munro! The experts must know better though 😁 Cheers, James

Hoping to do these munros this Saturday (15/04/23) . was also hoping you would have shown the accent up to the ridge but you didn't. Might not do the walkhighlands route like you did. That demoted munro your talking about, if you've done the Lochnagar route ? I don't know how all of those are munros ?
