Great choice for a reaction! One of my favorite 80s flicks. Also glad you noticed Christopher Lambert's underrated performance as Connor MacLeod. You hit on it, MacLeod was a man who went through a LOT of physical and emotional pain over hundreds of years and it was all embodied in Lambert's eternally stoic facial expressions and calm, confident demeanor. He felt like someone who didn't quite belong in the 20th century and was more than just a mere mortal. Sean Connery's mentor role as Ramirez was a perfect fit that anchored the middle part of the film and Clancy Brown was a scene-stealer as the larger-than-life Kurgan. The Queen soundtrack is just icing on the cake.

@@petertrudelljr As far as anyone knows, the minute or so of New York, New York in this film is the only fragment that was even recorded. It's rumored that Brian May has a recording of the full song, but because Freddie hated covering other artists' work (and New York, New York is best known for Sinatra's version) it's dubious it will ever be released even if it DOES exist.

If you two like watching movies with young actors who were just starting out, you should watch 1981's 'Excalibur'. So many actors who were just starting their career. It's also one of the best adaptions of the King Author legend. Also, watching this movie will explain a major point in the movie 'Ready Player One'. In the 80's (sword and sorcery (D&D) / post apocalyptic dystopian) movies were very big. It was a great time to be a kid/teen. Loving the chemistry of the channel and your reviews so far.

"There can be only one!" Fun Fact: Clancy Brown originally wanted the Kurgan to be dressed in a suit and bowler hat. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Connor (Christopher Lambert) drives a Porsche 356 A Speedster. The cars that the Kurgan (Clancy Brown) drive are a: 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, 1973 Plymouth Duster, and a 1975 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Music Enthusiast Fact: Queen originally intended to record only one song for this movie, but after viewing footage from the movie, they were inspired to write more. The band members each had a favorite scene and composed songs specifically for them. Preeminence Privilege Fact: All of Sir Sean Connery's scenes had to be filmed in a week, due to Connery's schedule. He had a bet with director Russell Mulcahy that they would not finish in seven days, but Mulcahy won the bet. Connery earned $1 million for his week's work. Movie Magic Fact: The swords sparking while clashing was accomplished by attaching a wire to each sword that led down the arms of the actors to a car battery. One was connected to the positive terminal and the other to the negative terminal, so when the swords touched, there was an arc. Location Location Fact: The scene in the alley where the Kurgan (Clancy Brown) beheads Kastagir (Hugh Quarshie) and then stabs the vigilante (Christopher Malcolm), followed by the explosion, was filmed in an alley in England, even though it was set in New York City. Director Russell Mulcahy was reluctant to set off the explosion in the alley, because the windows were full of Victorian glass, but he was given permission to do so, because that particular site was going to be destroyed in a few months anyway.

Another fun fact, is the Scots fighting at the start was actually real. They hired a bunch of Scots as extras and stuntmen... and as the filming days went on, they got more and more drunk... eventually the footage that was used in the movie was the best footage they had... because it was all the Scotsmen actually kicking the shizznit out of each other.

Great reaction! I love Highlander! Highly recommend the tv series over the sequel movies if you want more of this universe. The reason Connor MacLeod has the stare is very simple. The actor, Christopher Lambert, is nearsighted. This is what happened because he couldn't wear his glasses and he was trying to focus on something far away. Yes, I'm sure some of it is just good acting too. But other nearsighted actors can give off a similar stare such as Sylvestor McCoy from Doctor Who.

2:12 there’s a lot of immortals but only a couple Highlanders which is someone from the highlands of Scotland. 6:25 at this point Connor wasn’t an immortal. He had the power in him but since he hadn’t died yet the power wasn’t activated in him. 13:41 this part I’ve always had a problem with. He should’ve drowned then came back to life when he was pulled out of the water. 23:43 the winner of the battle gets all the knowledge and power of their opponent. Which is why you don’t want a bad immortal to be the final one. Yes she cried out for daddy. A lot of older couples call each other mother or father or some versions of that. 25:39 he’s reminding Connor that they’re on holy ground and they can’t fight. 30:35 so this scene is supposed to show that Connor is the final one. I really like this movie. Actually all the highlander movies have great music. The second one not so good cause they tried to change how they came to be. The 3rd one (The Final Dimension) was a nice try to bring the movies back to the correct line. The tv series with Adrian Paul was really good. They had another tv series called “Highlander: The Raven” it was ok. The fourth movie they made called “Endgame” combines the Adrian Paul tv series with the movies. Then the 5th one called “The Source” was entertaining and a way to end the series.

Great reaction you two to this sci-fi/fantasy 80s classic with a killer soundtrack....the only other Highlander related materials within the franchise that I would definitely recommend is Highlander: The TV Series (which ran for 6 seasons and had one short lived spin-off series that lasted only 1 season, Highlander: The Raven). The TV series does add much to the lore of the Immortals and Connor McLeod (Christopher Lambert) does make a 'passing of the torch' cameo appearance within the series. 🗡️ Although they did make several Highlander movie sequels (the 2nd one, Highlander 2: The Quickening, being not only one of the worst sequels ever made but does rank as one of the worst films of the entire decade of 1990s - due to heavy studio interference and awful editing by the studio.... however it too has its own cult following & dedicated fans) Recently, Highlander 2 underwent a drastic remaster by the original cinematographer & complete re-edit by the original director and original film's producers with added scenes (that were originally removed by the studio), re-scoring by the original composer and upgrades in visual special effects by the original VFX artists (all of which is a vast improvement over the original awful US theatrical version - which is rare to find these days). It still isn't a great movie BUT it is way better than the original released film & might be good for a watch just to see it for yourselves. (Highlander 2 is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies - as a stand alone separate film, it is ok now but as a sequel, yeah everyone dropped the ball there). 🫤 The 3rd film, Highlander: The Final Dimension (also sometimes called Highlander 3: The Sorcerer in some markets), largely ignores the events of 2 (but is more or less a rehash of the 1st film, in my opinion) it is ok but it has a feeling of 'already seen it before'. 🤦 The 4th film Highlander: Endgame (also ignores 2) is a continuation of the TV series and largely serves as a finale wrapping up all storylines and characters (there is also an alternate producers cut of that film as well because the Dimension Films company did edit the film prior to release, without the original producers consent or knowledge at the time of release. However Dimension Films did allow the producers to re-cut the film as originally intended for DVD & Blu-Ray releases afterwards). For a finale to the TV series, it's pretty good & (the producers cut version) is a worthy sequel in my own opinion. 😁 And lastly there was a made-for-cable film (produced by the Sci-fi/SYFY Channel) called Highlander: The Source (it ignores 2 and is a sequel to the previous film, Highlander: Endgame). That too also has a reputation for being awful and a cash-grab (honestly I wouldn't know because I never actually saw it myself...to be honest & in my opinion, a 5th film/2nd sequel really wasn't necessary because I felt Highlander: Endgame wrapped up everything nicely IMO). 😖 There was also a short-lived Saturday morning animated cartoon series called Highlander: The Animated Series and that too had its own spin-off animated movie called Highlander: The Search For Vengeance (I've never seen any of these so I cannot give my opinion of his good or bad that they are 🤷. That would be something you'd have to check out for yourself if you want). 😯 There have been several books/novels, comic books, a web flash series, several sword replicas from the various films & TV series, a collectable card game and even several video games for various computers and consoles within the Highlander franchise. It's up to you both if you want to do any deep dives into any of that (although I would be interested in knowing your thoughts about any of those materials if you both ever do because I never read, saw or played any of those)... 🧐
@FairladyZ2005

The original film is the best, no doubt about it. Highlander 2, sucks badly, the only redeeming thing about it is Michael Ironside's performance as General Katana. Otherwise, it's almost unwatchable. The third film is a continuation of the first, introducing an Immortal named Kane, played by Mario Van Peebles. It's okay, but still lacks gravity. Highlander Endgame is a sequel which links the movies to the TV series, with Adrian Paul's character, Duncan MacLeod taking over as the titular protagonist. It's about the best of the sequels. Highlander: The Source, isn't enjoyed by any of the fans, it sucks worse than having a migraine, a toothache and hemorrhoids, while being kicked in the balls repeatedly. Fans try not to talk about it, because it makes you no longer a fan of the original concept. The movie spawned two TV series, the main one lasted six seasons, a good show even if somewhat uneven. The second did only one season. There was also an animated series. I've never watched it, really don't care to. I still enjoy the original film and TV series, and the two decent sequels. One more note, the Immortals aren't all Highlanders, as you've probably realized.

Christopher Lambert didn't speak a word of English when making this movie, and learned all his dialogue phonetically. And he absolutely has the most intense stare. Kurgan's IKEA sword would never work in real life. Especially because you have a joint right about at the center of percussion (the part of the blade you want to strike your opponent with). Sean Connery was such a great casting choice for Ramirez: A Scot playing an Egyptian who adopted a Spanish persona. Looks like you're watching the director's cut, which adds a number of scenes, such as Connor rescuing Rachel from the Nazis, and the Boston Commons duel. The brief snippet of New York New York in the film is the only part known to exist of Queen's cover of the song, because Freddie hated covering other people's work. It's been rumored that Brian May has a copy of the full song, but even if true it's unlikely to ever be released. Connor says at the end he can hear the thoughts of everyone the world over, and can use that to help the world come together and understand one another. Now, imagine what could have happened if a monster like Kurgan got the Prize. There are no Highlander sequels. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now, the Highlander SERIES from the 90s with Adrian Paul is pretty cool if you look at it as its own continuity (but its movies are terrible, so best stop with the series finale).

What's funny is Queen was hired to write one song for Highlander and got so into it they came back with an entire album. When Queen writes an album for your movie, you use it. This one was always on TV when I was a kid and it's always a good time. As far as the movies go, there can be only one. The sequels are pretty bad. There was a series that has a fanbase. The first 3 seasons were good then it kind of spirals.

Which unfortunately isn’t always the case with some younger viewers who are more on the shallow side. I left a comment on your video for The Crow with a list of great comic book cult classic movies. All of them would be right up your two’s alley and make for great videos. Another cult classic I’m going to recommend out of left field. “The Warriors” (1979)

I'm a big fan of the "Highlander" franchise, but it gets kind of messy after the original film. If you decide to watch more, do yourself a HUGE favor and SKIP part 2. It's an abomination. LOL! Even the filmmakers don't count it. Jump right to "Highlander 3: The Final Dimension". From there, if you're feeling really adventurous, watch the "Highlander" TV series starring Adrian Paul. First season gets really cheesy, but the series gets better and better as it goes. Then from there, the final film to watch is "Highlander: Endgame". There was another film after that, but it might actually be worse than part 2. LOL. All that said, the other choice is to leave it at just the original film. It's a great one and done film with a beginning, a middle and an ending. Love your channel and how much fun you have seeing all these great movies!

The movies fly off sci-fi the rails right away with at least 3 sequels. The real Highlander experience that I enjoyed was the television show. Taking place along side the events of the first film, with a different character, the weekly television show did what the first movie did, telling a story about the past that is relevant to the present, with a mild crime drama theme. Separate from the movies and eventually more popular then the movies at the time, the finale brought the two actors together in an epic showdown ⚔️

And it doesn't feed you with exposition, so you have to figure out the lore bit by bit. Fun fact: Clancy Brown did his work for free. Always love the Scottish Sean Connery playing an Egyption/Spanish dude with a Scottish accent :D And Clancy Brown set the bar for over-the-top villains! There are NO OTHER highlander movies, regardless of the titles. DO NOT bother :D. There is a Highlander series that is actually much better than the movies (after it gets its legs under it) which I'd recommend as a good watch. But Like the non-existent 4/5 Indiana Jones movies, or the 3rd+ aliens movies, there really is no reason to watch the others in this series, they just are bad... and well just bad :D Great reaction, love it when people find this classic!

The second film completely changes everything, is hated and is not considered canon. Because Connor won the prize in this film, the third film is considered by the creators to be in another universe (where The Gathering never happened in the 80s) and leads into the 90s TV series of which there were 6 seasons. Christophe Lambert is in the pilot episode, but it's about a younger immortal MacCleod called Duncan. With the series, they really flesh out the characters and mythology in a big way and expand the universe greatly. The fourth film, Highlander Endgame from 2003 is my personal favourite and features both MacCleods. The bad guy in that is at least ten times more powerful than the Kurgan was in this film too. The fifth film Highlander: The Source from 2008 supposedly explains the origins of the immortals, but I believe like the second film, it's also revered by the fanbase. There have been rumours recently that Highlander could be rebooted with Henry Cavill playing Connor MacCleod.

A super underrated sci-fi/fantasy type movie. Soundtrack maybe the best ever, all by queen. The producers and record company didn't want queen to do the entire soundtrack. So the film has a soundtrack, but Queen did their own called, It's a Kind of Magic! This caused them to split with their record company, and go out on their own. U can find the queen version, but it's tough! Called, It's a Kind of Magic! They did the soundtrack as a Opera. Also the scenery and camera work, is amazing! Henry Cavill is supposed to be doing the remake!😮😮😮. U can skip part 2 or the TV shows. . Also the bad guy here, is maybe the best, pure psychopath , evil protagonist, ever! He was about broke and homeless, but he said he really wanted this gig, so he could work with Sean Connery! The opening, drag in camera cut around the ring and then close up, to the actor, is amazing! The guy that lets Connor out of his village? Old guy in Braveheart!😮😮😮 Neil Young, listen to his somg, Rust Never Sleeps...u will get the line! He was in Shawshank, the Sean Penn movie, Bad Boys, and a character in SpongeBob!

Skip "Highlander 2: The Quickening." It's not even really considered canon, anymore, because it deviated so badly and then screwed itself so badly. It might have worked as its own science fiction movie, but NOT as "Highlander." They should have changed the characters' names and just made it a stand-alone movie in its own little franchise. It should never have been given the title of "Highlander 2." In interviews, after it was made; even Christopher Lambert was saying, "If you're looking for a sequel to 'Highlander,' this isn't it."

Good reaction. Glad you enjoyed one of my fave movies of all time. As for the sequels ... In short: Highlander 2 - Most call it one of the worst sequels of all times ... and they're not that wrong, even though I enjoy parts of it. It just makes no sense at all. Highlander 3 - A quasi remake of part 1 with more magic. Solid. Highlander: Endgame - A flawed movie that's still worth your time if you care about Connor MacLeod and if you've seen at least a couple episode of Highlander: The Series. And yes, there's a series. Six seasons with the first two being a bit hit and miss and season 3 to 5 being some of the best TV from the 90's. It aknowledges the movie, has Connor in the first episode and goes it's own ways afterwards. (And there's also a solid animated movie, the direct-to-dvd 5th Highlander that's just the WORST, a one-season-only spin-off to the TV show, a short lived animated web series and a 90's cartoon series for kids that's set in the far future.)

I love this movie. (though I prefer the OG theatrical release version) And yeah, you can really see how much the actor must have had a BALL playing the Kurgan! Such a wonderfully over the top bad guy! You can't help but enjoy him! You REALLY don't want to see Highlander 2! It is perhaps the WORST sequel in the HISTORY of movies IMO! There WAS a remake of it, which (slightly) improved it. But it is still not good. But my advice? Treat the Highlander movies with that saying, "There can be ONLY one"! It's just better to STOP here.
