@@mick2spictbh the theatrical opening started off legit too. Having the ozone plot in the start and show the aftermath. Just remove ziest. Or ziest could have been what we now know as earth.

But this is NOT the opening to the 1991 release of Highlander 2: The Quickening. This is the opening to the 1995 re-edited re-release of Russell Mulcahy's Renegade Version of Highlander 2: The Director's Cut

HIGHLANDER II is one of my guilty pleasures. We know about the various problems and inconsistencies in this sequence, but I can see some positive points. The film has a dystopian science fiction atmosphere that I think is fantastic. The whole issue of the destruction of the ozone layer, the creation of that protective shield for the planet and the decadent, stagnant society, living in terrible conditions under that red "sky"... I think it's very good! The problem was that they mixed this great plot with all the fantasy of immortal warriors! And on top of that presenting them as aliens! The plot could follow in a similar way, with an eco-terrorist group contacting one of the scientists who created the shield. And they discovered that the ozone layer had already been restored. And so, organizing an attack on the corporation that controlled the shield.

When I first watched this as a teenager,back in 1992/3 on VHS, 2024 seemed so far away that it would never came to pass. Now I'm middle aged, watching a 1991 dystopian version of this year on my futuristic mobile phone.

I just realized that like Siegfried, McLeod stepped through flames to reach the woman Louise just as Siegfried did to win theough to Brunhilda wreathed in flames waiting..... Wish the movie was better though....

I don’t think so. Of course, the second part can’t keep up with the first. But the dystopian mood, the music and last but not least the dark look make this movie an independent movie pleasure. The problem was that he had “Highlander” in his name.
