Thank you so much for your comment. I had my Highlander serviced yesterday and then this morning the tailgate wouldn’t open. Thanks to you the problem was fixed easily.
Just bought a 19 last week. You just saved a marriage. My wife was yelling at me from Walmart parking lot. 2 minutes in to video I FaceTimed her. All fixed and got an apology even!!!!!! Bless you!
I was about to take my vehicle to the Toyota dealer where I'm certain the service department would have happily told me the struts would need to be replaced. Great information.
Omg I'm so happy I found you. I pressed on that button myself, out of curiosity, and surprise, I couldn't open the bak door. Funny I have had this car for 2 years and I didn't know I could just open de window. I love my car!! Thank you so much for your video, you're my answers now. Will be watching more videos to learn new things about my Highlander!❤
Thank you, for this video. I wish I seen this before wasting the money thinking it needed to be fixed. I will continue to follow you for updates and tips. Thank you again. Blessing
When I Saw The Title to This Video. I Started Laughing😂😂😂. This happened to me a few years ago. I rented a 2017 Highlander SE White in Color. My family and I was going on a 5hr around trip about halfway into the trip I noticed that the tailgate wasn't close and I pull over to close it. But after a longggg few minutes I found out it was the window that wasn't close. That was the #1 thing I learn about that generation Highlander. Overall I Love It. It was and I believe it still is a great SUV. This Was a Great Video and a Great Tip That Everyone Needs To Know If Your Considering Buying This Generation Highlander.
Try this out but if it still wouldn’t open and just beeps twice but the rear glass is properly closed here’s another possible cause. Inside the glove box frame area on the left hand side is a small black button ( it’s not on the glove box but the frame of the glovebox opening ). I’m not 100% sure right now but I believe if that button is “ in “ it has been pushed. This can happen if the shop checked the cabin air filter and accidentally pushed that button. After trying the rear window glass and still nothing, open the glove box and locate that button. Push that button I believe it’s “ normal position “ is sticking out??? Then try the rear hatch again with either of the three methods. Mine stopped opening after “ I “ had checked and replaced the cabin air filter. I checked the rear glass, fine. I phoned the dealership and was told the power door struts Ned to be replaced. $800+ for the struts and 3 hours labour. I checked Track Palmer’s RU-vid video entitled 4 possible causes of a rear hatch that won’t open on your Highlander. This was reason number 2. Yes to what YOU said, it is not a good idea to manually lift the rear hatch as this could “ misalign” the hatch and it will need to be professionally adjusted or the power struts will fail and it will still need adjustment.
Just fixed this....thank you Brian, and thank you Google. Your "height adjust" extra was also great, as setting 5 hits our newly installed garage door.
Great informative video Brian! As I said previously, my favorite version of the Highlander is 2017 through 2019. I really liked that SE AWD Highlander! I have seen the back hatch height adjustment demonstration previously. That was an excellent tip as far as making sure the glass is completely closed and latched. Makes perfect sense! Stay warm Friend! It’s getting chilly again here in the Heartland. Mark in Iowa.
OMG. Thank goodness for you! I just spent 25 minutes having a melt down over this. I just bought a 2018 a few days ago and I am a fiddler (always fiddling with the buttons and settings and"fine tuning things😅"). I thought for sure I messed things up last night in my latest round of fine tuning . Thank up so much for this video. I was in the rain freaking out that I had messed it up.
Thank you , I paid a car mechanic because of this problem and he took a microchip at the back door and said he was going to resent the memory and came back within 3 minutes, fix it up and it opened, I am sure now he just took the cash and did exactly this,. Thank you brotherly.
I had this problem but it was not any of this. If you open the glove box, there is a tiny black push button that disables the power lift door. I had checked the cabin air quality filter earlier in the day and must of accidentally pushed it. Drove me nuts until I just called the dealer...one 2 minute call from a helpful service provider fixed it.
I have a 2015 Highlander Limited & have to replace both the struts & Trunk door control module on it, where do i gain access to the trunk door control module? I don’t want to have to pay the dealership to do it.. lol 😂😅 Thanks! Your videos are very helpful!
There is a switch next to glove compartment which can be culprit too by pressing it off while changing air filter. If none of above works, check it. I found that in another video. 👍👍👍
Ohhhh where is this little button you speak of? My a/c shit the bed this summer and I tried to clean the cabin filter, so maybe I hit something that is causing this problem
Maybe someone already mentionned here what I realized. The same bipbip will also happen if doors are locked. Simply unlock doors and the trunk will open. Thanks a lot for your interesting videos 👍
Go to your settings ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V_dsi8m_evQ.html (Scroll to 01:48 in that video) This video should help And see if the PBD is turned off.
I have a 2021 highlander my hatch makes this sound. There is no visible button on the hatch. Underneath where the button is located for manually opening the hatch there is a small button. Does that button open the window part of the hatch?
Ok so I’ve been having this problem for months now. I didn’t even know about the hatch window could open til last week. It’s always closed but I still have this problem. It’s driving me crazy. Could it be anything else?
My rear door won't open .I do not have a glove box button nor do I have a button on the left of the steering wheel. My rear window will open but I can't get the door to open. Any ideas?
There is an interlock switch on the bottom of the glass frame. Once you open the window you will see it On my 2018 Highlander this switch was stuck. so it did not engage, nothing I did corrected the problem. I used WD-40 to lubricate it . This corrected the problem. Good luck
My toyota highlander tailgate just pops open and won't open or close when pressing button it just beeps twice and won't move window is closed securely?
Hi Brian. I checked the glass hatch in the back and it was fine. The lift gate still isn’t opening but instead of getting a quick 2 beep I’m getting a long beep. Any suggestions?
Any idea of what to do with the same 2 reps on highlander 2021 as that window on the back is no longer available. Only option to open trunk is with the kick move on the back. Can't wait use keyfob, or the front button, same 2 beeps.
Try using the height adjustment menu in this video to make sure the power option is on ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V_dsi8m_evQ.html
My highlander will produce a 3-6 second long beep and then not open. Glass panel is closed. No obstructions. I even reset the lift gate button in the glove compartment. Any ideas?
My 2015 Highlander the back hatch is opening only with the key fab or pressing the button in the back it is not opening when I press the button inside the vehicle by the steering wheel it beeps but it does not open I’ve checked the window opened it and closed it tight still not working any suggestions thank you
We did a factory order for that specific vehicle a month ago and the customer just got the news that Toyota is building it for them. If you have approx 8-10 weeks to get what you want, I may be able to help you.
I believe there is a button inside glove box to assist. But before that, try turning the car on, and unlocking all doors first. Let us know what works!
My mom was just chewing me out telling me I broke her door it won't open just goin off on me. So I looked up videos found this and told her just hang on this guy in video is about to tell us how to fix it she had no patience
