Today, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we take a look at Carmelite spirituality and at a new and growing community of Carmelite monks in Wyoming.
To those commenting negatively, the Carmelite spirituality is more based upon mystical contemplation than necessarily being a hermit. This does seem to be a bit of a mix between Benedictine and Carmelite, but the Benedictine aspect is I think necessary for the location in which they're living, and the fact that they're attempting to be self-sustaining.
I live up in Idaho, and would love to come see the equivalent of a European monastery. Wyoming' gorgeous to begin with, so a house of God, through our brothers would be a wonderful place to escape this insane world. God be with you all, and St Elijah, pray for us. God have mercy on us sinners.
This is a third order Carmelite group. There has been a push in Carmelite circles toward the primitive rule. It likes like this third order group wants to accomplish that. I like the design of the monastery, it seems they have their separate cells like the first Carmelites. Awesome.
GOD has given me an extremely strong calling to establish a monastery based on sacred classical tradition plainsong chant and polyphony, and the other sacred arts such as carving, icons, calligraphy, stain glass, etc.
