Very noble of you , thanks for the sportsmanship. South African here. Yes the French fans were terrible in the RWC. We beat France because we were the better team on the day. All the cheating accusations left a very sour taste in my mouth. No referee at this level is doing anything other than being the best professional they can be.

The comment is about French rugby fans and not focussed on the particulars of this game. As you see in additional comments to this video the French are banging on about being used to being “cheated”. Some friends of mine were abused by French fans after the quarterfinal about cheating. These are families with children, it was ugly. And no gloating, the teams in the top 5 are all more than capable of beating the boks.

@thelmaodige9090 That was before looking closely at the replays. From the footage shown on TV we can't say that we see the ball being grounded, even though it likely was grounded. Maybe a French hand is under it. Too many bodies blocking the view. I wouldn't have given a try without seeing a clear grounding. It's not the first time this happened. Obviously it is harsh on Scotland if it was grounded but the cameras can't pick up everything.

But the issue is in a 50 50 it should go to attacking play if we want a more exciting flowing rugby or decide to have gritty low scoring arm wrestle. I enjoy both but the rules seem to decide which it will be on the day bit the players

As an Irish fan, I've found the kiwis to be, generally, pretty honest in defeat. I think this starts with your pundits being pretty critical. Maybe, there is just a loud 10% that aren't honest? That percentage is higher in England and South Africa, in my experience. PS. Any Irish fans who thought we "deserved" to get out of a quarter final, can go and shite.

As a French man I thought he was gonna give it to them but on the TMO you can see the ball on the floor but nothing else. I do think it’s normal he goes back to on field decision (which could have been anything really) not a robbery

My assumption is the ball was grounded but unclear if it was still on the try line when it happened. Look at the camera angle from the top, the whole action happened literally on the line, it was a question of inches. I think the referee took a wise decision to stay on his first call. You could say I’m biased because I’m French but both teams were terrible today and France didn’t deserve the win either. I’m just getting tired in this TMO nonsense. The on field referee was right there. We should trust is judgment.

The camera angle in this highlight reel is atrocious someone should get a video of every TMO camera shot so we can get a better discussion because that one angle shows very very little. However the TMO can only by the law of the game reverse a decision where clear evidence means the refs on field decision is wrong. Once the referee told TMO my onfield decision is no try ball held up, the TMO has to prove that the ball was not help up and grounded on the try line. At no point was the TMO deciding whether the ball had or had not gone over the line, he was determining if the ball grounded and put the ball on the try line but with that many players being 100% certain (again you have to be in the law) is impossible. I don't agree witn the rule, and this is a prime example why. The TMO will probably now be taking serious stick because he made a decision that they were inconclusive and didn't reverse referees decision whereas I believe the onfield ref deserves far and away more criticism for initially coming out and declaring his decision like that.

Having followed rugby for more than fifteen years now, I can say without hesitation that on several occasions I've seen tries of this style refused, so the decision isn't shocking in itself, but I totally understand the Scots. The opposite would have led to complaints from the French, and rightly so. I say what I also say about VAR in football: it's a tool to HELP the decision, not the tool that MAKES the decision. It is then up to the referee to INTERPRET with what he has in front of him. It's not the tool that should be singled out in these situations, but the referee's decision.

The big problem her is that nick berry said "on Field decision no try" when the Scottish player was on top of the ball and nobody was beneath him. Nick berry said he thought he saw an arm under it. Nick berry should have said "on field decision try" and then the tmo would have had to find evidence that the try wasn't grounded which upon review he obviously would have seen no evidence. The tmo also deserves some of the blame because you can actually see where the line is due to paint on the grass and the ball going behind it with nothing beneath it. Nick berry is going to change his decision but the tmo convinces him not too. The tmo was awful but it was nick Berry's awfulness that allowed the tmo to be a factor. I think it's clear that there is a crisis in rugby refereeing atm and there needs to be an independent commission.

@@columkenn Yea only if you assume the laws of physics stopped working lol, u can see the ball with nothing under it go to ground and be clearly grounded but the foot blocks line of sight but unless your suggesting the ball somehow passed through the ground there is literally nowhere else for the ball to go but be grounded, it required a little bit of common sense to call a try but clearly the ref and TMO lacked that today.

How is this a scandalous decision by Nick Berry? He was right there and didn’t see the ball touch the line, HE CAN NOT GIVE AN ON FIELD DECISION OF A TRY. With limbs around the place it’s very plausable not to see it. Critique the TMO as much as you like, from the angles we saw it certainly looked like it touched the ground.

@@nakedref8997 if a player is over the line and nobody is beneath him then you have to assume it's a try. If it's been held up then you should be able to prove it in the replay. This is like chucking a plate out of your window, hearing it smash but then assuming that it didn't break because you didn't physically see it break. Everybody knows this was a try and the only reason it wasn't given was because nick berry decided to give the defending team the benefit of the doubt. That decision cost Scotland the game. Referees consistently making these decisions gives an incentive for defending players to swarm in and block the cameras and the refs view so the grounding can't be seen. The benefit of the doubt should always be given to the attacking team and if it has been held up it should be able to be clearly shown in the replay. Whenever a team legitimately holds the ball up you can almost always clearly see it on tmo replays.

That’s why players are taught play to the whistle, because if we don’t see it weren’t not ruling on it. TMO should have picked it up, Nick Berry ruled what he saw.

referee and TMO were a disgrace. media and keyboard warriors covering for them now you see how corruption and injustice happens every day, all over the world, all day long.. there are always people who want to feel safe and side with the authorities over the evidence of their own eyes.

Quelle chance ? On a été mauvais face à m Irlande et on a mérité notre défaite. Il n y avait pas de chance en jeu. Dans ce match, il y a un Essai lancé par Fickou qui a été avorté par un placage à la nuque de Van der Merwe. Et l arbitre ne siffle que le off-side... à quel moment tu considères que c est de la chance ? On mérité de mettre cet essai et les Écossais méritaient de mettre cet essai en fin de match. Le score en aurait été le même !

@@mafrjo742 C'était du pile ou face, un autre arbitre aurait pu accorder l'essai. On a gagné sur une décision polémique. Quant au placage haut de Duhan VDM, il aurait dû être pénalisé (et peut-être un jaune) mais Fickou a été plaqué à 7-8m de la ligne et s'est arrêté à 1-2m de la ligne donc pas d'essai de pénalité selon moi .

The ball moved because it bounced on the ground. Look at both angles, it's obvious the ball touches the ground, it's obvious there is still downward pressure, and it's obvious the grounding was on the line. And I'm an England supporter and wanted Scotland to lose.

I don't agree, if the ref told the TMO that he had no clear view the TMO would have definitely said a try, but because the ref went ahead and said his on field decision is held up then the TMO has to have definitive proof that it was grounded by a Scot and if not then it goes by what the ref saw.. unfortunately those are the rules but in my own opinion I do think they got the try. Scotland played way better than France tonight however they should have took advantage of the yellow card and put scores on the board instead of kicking the ball back and forth wasting time they was only one score between them it wasn't a great plan to waste that time.. I'm not against Scotland either as I would root for them when Ireland aren't playing.
