First in 20 years! Statistically the fewest wooden spoons and most titles. Wales are the best performing nation in its entire history. This is why everyone hates them.
I would just like to say that as a proud Welshman nothing makes me happier than to see these comments. You see sad, vindictive and petty people like nothing more than to drag down successful accomplishments. Wales have been very dominant in the Six Nations Championship for so long, we are happy to give the rest of you an opportunity to finally win something. 🍻🍻
Horrific game. Ireland vs France almost looked revolutionary. 47 mins of ball in play and thrilling energetic stuff that was a bit like a State of Origin match. One of the best games I've ever watched. Back to reality with these two...
Why are we pretending that every Rugby game is like the France and Ireland game? No shit a different game of the six nations didn’t compare with one of the best tests in recent memory…
With The Six Nations and Super Rugby going on as well as The World Cup 2k23 on the horizon. I think it's safe to say that this year is gonna be an epic year for Rugby. 🔥
An epic battle between two superior rugbynations! Cheers from a former rugbyplayer in rugbys "outback" Sweden and nowadays a keen fan of this very fine sport - the great running game! Peace! God bless!
Neither side look great. Fly/half an issue for Eng still. Also, they only have Chessum and Genge as powerful carriers. I’d play Lawes and Ribbans (Repl) for the other lock role. Can’t understand bringing on Arundel and Smith when the clock was just about to go red. Really not that convinced by Borthwick. He likes kicking - but there is a difference between good kicking and poor kicking - and knowing when to do it. Wales and England are miles away from France, Ireland, NZ, SA and even Scotland. Wales may be very lucky to avoid the Wooden Spoon. Gatland needs to bring in far more younger players. He has no choice.
england 5 mins away from beating scotland with Borthwicks first game in charge - give the man time. Everyoned called for Andy Farrels head for the first 12 months in charge of Ireland
Completely agree. ‘Kick the ball down the other end repeatedly ad nauseam’ may work as a tactic. Pick seven full backs to catch and punt it; someone to kick the odd penalty. (It’s been done before - EJ & SB)
Borthwick: “Our pack struggled in the second half, that’s why I made changes” doesn’t mention the backs kicking the ball away going forward even on 1v1 or overlap situations or Farrell missing 4 place kicks. Watching the wrong side of the pitch Steve, problem wasn’t with our forwards it’s with our backs, namely decision making at 9&10
Absolutely! Although England have improved in general since Eddie, they've reverted to the pointless (in a very literal sense) "tactic" of aimlessly kicking away possession. Even Slade chose to kick when he had men on his right and a potential overlap. It's brainless.
Thought that was one of Farrell’s worst performances in England shirt. Lawrence/Slade centre partnership starting to tick a bit. England are still kicking too much ball away. Big tests to come to see where we really are. Good luck to the Scots.
@@Camcolito I wouldn't say England are crap at all, they're rebuilding with a whole new coaching setup. 3 games in and they've improved upon every game. I just mean fair play to Wales for giving it everything even though they're in the dumps right now.
@@ryanmacdonnell8987 England were way better than that scoreline suggests. Farrell missed 10 points off the tee. They've showed consistent improvement over the three games so far, and beat Italy far more convincingly than France or Ireland did.
@@joeboonmusic4004 Fair enough bud, I don't even really disagree. They gave an effort but just aren't very good right now. And England are still poor, but jmo.
He was running forwards. He threw the ball backwards in relation to himself. Because he was running, the ball moves forwards in relation to a horizontal line on the pitch. But what matters in the rules is whether it is in relation to the players
When the ball carrier and the receiver are running forward nearly all passes appear to go forward relative to the lines in the ground - that is why the law relates to the direction that the ball leaves the ball carrier’s hands
@Ralph Reilly but when he catches it the ball is still in front of the player who passed it. If it was thrown behind him with the forward momentum would it at least not be behind him when caught?
Was it vintage England? No. Was it better than the Italy game? Yes. Was the Italy game better than the Scotland game? Yes. Borthwick's had them for 3 games and there's been a distinct improvement in each. Progress is progress.
Their improving but their still unremarkable. They will keep it close with France but lose because Owen Farrell can’t hit a cows arse with a banjo, he needs to be off kicking duties
@@alexnaismith351 As I said, Borthwick's had them for 3 games. I wasn't expecting a miracle, and I'm satisfied with the improvements they're showing. Their defence today was markedly better than it has been so far, Wales never really looked like scoring other than Zammit's interception (and Malins wants shooting for throwing that pass!). Agreed on Farrell though - he had an OK game today but we can't afford a kicker who misses 10 points. He kept Wales in the game.
@@linalmeemow Would you agree that the opposition England have faced is the reason they appear to be improving? It's hardly surprising this tragic Welsh team never looked like scoring. At the end of the day they've beaten the two worst teams in the competition, lost to the 3rd best and haven't played the two best who are miles ahead right now, particularly Ireland.
@@eoghan5006 Not really, no. The Scotland game was much closer than people seem to remember - only 6 points in it., and the English defence was woeful that day which Sinfield appears to be sorting out based on the improvements of the past couple of games. The win over Italy was far more comfortable than the scoreline reflected, and Italy stretched both Ireland and France way more than they did England. I think the France and Ireland games will be more competitive than you're expecting, though I don't think England will win either. I doubt we'll win the WC, but we'll be far more competitive with another 6 1/2 months under Borthwick and Sinfield by the time it starts.
@@linalmeemow Ireland played a B team vs Italy and beat them by practically the same margin as England did while playing a full strength team? Again I don't think beating Wales or Italy is anything to base a teams ability on but if you want to do that Ireland had won the game after fifteen minutes and were 27-3 up. England toiled to a 10 point win. I could be wrong but I think if you're getting any notions of exponential improvements after beating two very poor teams your in for a shock over the next few weeks.
AWJ is a legend but he’s really past it. Made a couple of contributions but his carrying is atrocious and his lack of clear out on ludlum at the end of the first half was inexcusable. He was in a perfect position but couldn’t get it done. Whoever’s behind him needs to get game time before the rwc.
Borthwick reminds me of a stuart Lancaster or Andy Robinson his gameplay is grind out a game one thing he seems to have sorted out is the penalty count against England still I know him and Farrell keep saying they are a team in transition but jeez I don't think I could put up with much more of this kind of rugby really hard to watch or get confident of much improvement in the near future can definitely forget the world cup this year 🤔🤔
@@thomasemmet2177 yeh but don't every team say that even the Irish over the last few years have been saying it the only team that never seems to say it are the All Blacks as they seem to have a cooling off period then they just revert back to smashing everyone can see Argentina and Italy doing well in the world cup but think one of the southern hemisphere teams will win it between The All Blacks and South Africa 🏆
The fury with which the forward pack responded after the ‘girls’ in the back line surrendered the ball for LRZ to prance over, and, later, the deadly machine-gun patter of Mitchell’s delivery of the ball from phase after phase that led to Lawrence’s score out wide - these two stirred the blood in stark contrast to the funereal torpor at which the rest of the match was conducted
England's disappointment at only winning 2 Grand Slams in the 6 Nations can only be surpassed by their disappointment that Wales have 4. Bearing in mind they're facing France and Ireland in the last 2 matches I wouldn't be crowing about underperformance too soon.
Any other player would have been dropped years ago with his performances for England. It makes no sense that he is untouchable even with a change of coach.
Wasn't a great game but England got the job done, even though Wales tried very hard England could and probably should have won that game by 30 points, they left at least 15 points out there and they gave Wales 10 you might think I'm being harsh but really Wales were pretty mediocre and England were very conservative and nervy .
You’re not being harsh at all wales were appalling it’s really sad to see this decline but clearly a lot of neglect has gone on. England were better but not brilliant tbh
30 points wtf, England were atrocious, there's a huge forward pass on their first try as well, there's very little evidence the second one was correctly grounded, and btw you just can't add up the missed penalties and conversions like that, that's nonsense.
@@johnnibaz6883 There was no forward pass at all. When they're running at full speed, a legal pass can still move forward because of the momentum. It's about the direction of release and all of them were perfectly legal throws.
@@johnnibaz6883 I agree that England were atrocious. Lucky for them, Wales were slightly worse. If England play like that against France or Ireland, they will get belted.
Agreed. England killed off so many of their opportunities with wasteful kicking (will they EVER learn?) and stodgy delivery of the ball from half backs
Toughest match to call. Fair play to Wales they fought for the full 80. England are improving each week, worried about them planning a Paddy's weekend ambush in Dublin assuming Ireland beat the Scots
@@stephenreeds3632 if Ireland win at Murrayfield in 2 weeks they'll win the slam I think. I'm worried about England but this is the best ever Irish team when they're on momentum no one can stop them
@@MikeyJMJ i can't see Scotland beating a wounded French but we'll see tomorrow. Scotland played a poor England and terrible Welsh. Let's see how they cope against France and Ireland next 2 weeks real opposition
@ftq no, I just said I'm worried about them planning a Paddy's weekend ambush as they're improving. I never said they'll beat Ireland, merely suggesting they are improving and if Ireland make mistakes England could punish them. I still think Ireland will go on to win the grand slam, they're ahead of the other 5 teams at the moment in my opinion
You know what's almost better than seeing England win? Reading all the comments on here that are so blatantly anti England afterwards 😂 England could win 100-0 without missing a single tackle, and they'd find something to complain about
It's the way they play that alienates many. We're constantly told they have world class players and yet they constantly serve up this dross and Wales are woeful too.
Even though southern hemisphere rugby is considerably better than the north the six nations as a competition is lightyears ahead of the rugby championship
Not the improvements I was hoping for from England. Pleased for the win, but not a great match from either side really. Also I really think Owen needs to be replaced for kicks.. He misses so many now, not just on international level either.
Bearing in mind your positioning on the "other side" of the RWC, I think you destroyed your chance at winning the tournament by getting rid of Eddie. England were dismal and only won because Wales were worse - and you have France and Ireland looming.... Edit: At least one good thing, Freddie is insanely good!!!!
@@Karma-qt4ji I don’t even want to think about the RWC right now haha! I’m not so sure about Eddie, the team needed new and fresh players, which have kind of filtered through a little. Eddie was very much stuck in the mud picking the same team whether they were in form individually or not. Time will tell I suppose, but I’m not feeling confident!
But it WAS an improvement., and the Italy game was an improvement over the Scotland performance. They're getting better, and Borthwick has only had the side for three games. Give it time. Agreed on Farrell though. He had a much better game defensively today (made a couple of turnovers which is unusual for him) but left 10 points on the tee. If he can't kick he doesn't make the grade for me.
The ball is allowed to move forwards from a pass if the passing player has forward momentum. What matters is where the passing player directs the ball. If you pause the video just when the pass is thrown you can see the receiving player behind the passing player.
Wales could not even do a lap of honour to applaud their fans. Very disappointing indeed! Win or lose it would have been nice! Fair play to ENGLAND they did.
It’s to be expected that a lot of people are here to gloat. These two teams have dominated the six nations for 20 years and more. They have more championships and grand-slams between the two than any of the other team. It’s easy to forget the above when you’re on an upswing and Irish, French or Scottish. But if Wales and England get their houses in order, it can only be good for fans of this six nation’s championship…imagine the games we will witness. Peace ✌️🍻🍻
In the last twenty years (2002-2022 inclusive) France have 6 championships, England and Wales 5 each, and Ireland 4. In that time France and Wales have won 4 Grand Slams, England and Ireland 2 each. You are way off in your assessment..
@@ApeOfMyIdeal incredibly wrong, possibly showing off your French bias. England have won 7 times since 2000. Wales have won 6 times has have France. England 2000, 2001, 2003, 2011, 2016, 2017 and 2020 Wales 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2019, and 2021 France 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2022 Wales and France tie for most amount of grand-slams in this era. The comment I wrote was the people writing off these two teams who between them have been dominant in this competition. Add Wales and Englands accomplishments together and they are the two dominant teams.
@@ApeOfMyIdeal How did you manage to get most of those facts wrong? Until last year it was a decade since France won their last 6 nations. England and Wales are undoubtedly the dominant force over the years. It's amazing what a bias will do to facts and figures.
@@ApeOfMyIdeal Very telling that you choose to leave out the first 2 years of the 6 Nations just so you can delete the first 2 England wins. What a joke. Why don't we instead look at the 6 Nations wins from 2011 onwards? Then we see that England have won it 4 times since 2011 and France have managed it just once? If that's the sort of data collection skills we're using here, we may as well avoid the subject altogether.
@@linalmeemow Duh and how is he making this exactly...? All I saw was a disaster game by two disastrous teams, losing the ball forwards every couple o' passes, and therefore a game riddled with boring scrums. Can't blame the ref for that.
@@johnnibaz6883 His inability to deal with the scrums. Constantly giving free kicks for early pushes, failing to deal with collapsed scrums. He's a poor referee. Wales are the greatest 6 nations country in the history of 6 nations. Plus they got to 2 semis in between all that with tons of injuries to their best players
@@Budge94 Ummmm what? Barest of margins? Ask anyone in the world at that time who was the best team in the world. England thoroughly deserved the win in 2003. That's one of the most cohesive teams in the history of the game. How many WCs have Wales won? If you're going to bring up Grand Slams, let's talk about the WC. Wales have never made it to the final. You can palm it off and say England lost to a team that barely beat Wales but 1: Wales weren't in the final, nor have they ever been. 2: South Africa very clearly didn't show all their cards in the Wales game. Still, your lack of acknowledgment of the facts and England's prowess in the sport is telling. I will freely admit that Wales have had incredible success in their rugby history and are easily up there with England as the most successful team across the board in the NH... It's just a shame that the chip on your shoulder stops you from being similarly fair. It's quite a common curse.
Have to admit that the Irish commentator did well in not holding back he was Irish and which team he actually wanted to win. That's unbiased commentary of the worst standard. Well done, Sir.
Good win for England but will this performance put any doubts in Irish or French minds? LRZ showed the pace Borthwicks back line lacks, Cole and Vunipola? Not going to help England build for the future. Borthwick claim he is selecting on form starting to look a bit thin, there are better performers week in week out in the Gallagher than many of them who ran out in Cardiff.
There is a site called RU-vid. You're actually on it too in case you were lost. On RU-vid you can search for "France v Scotland highlights". You should be able to find highlights then. Best of luck
Yeah I didn’t know about all the drama with WRU until the lead up to this game, gotta feel for the players. They’ll come back annoyingly strong soon enough though I’m sure!
I don’t understand the English mentality. We seem to always pretty steady to skilful. Smith and arundel on the bench.. I’d even rather Ford than Farrell at 10.. fair play to the welsh but surely we should have scored more.
Not a wales supporter but you can clearly see by the overtop camera that the pass for the first try to England was way forward...Not a bit but at least two meters ? Point of release on hte edge of the dark green and pass taken on the edge of the light green ... Just saying as a neutral.
@@GenoAtkins I understand physics very well thank you however to put it another way then, if that was the All Blacks making that pass against England....I can pretty much assure you that the the laws of physics you mention suddenly change from the laws of physics shown in this game and everyone failed their gcse..LOL
The bonus point was massive and now makes it almost impossible for England to win the trophy..not that I think they will beat France or Ireland ..but if a miracle happened it's looking like we will gift the Scots the title .
You think Scotland will beat France or Ireland? I'd say that's pretty unlikely - they beat England by less than a converted try, and England were TERRIBLE that game.

Altogether unimpressive from the English. Farrell had an atrocious day at the office with the boot and there's a distinct lack of imagination in the running lines! Their last 2 matches against Ireland & France might help to show them (and us) just how bad they actually are and how much work Borthwick et al. have to do before #RWC2023!
@@harryaskham8959 not sure how thats relevant. wales were shit and england definitely the better side but it doesn't take away from the fact it was a clear forward pass
1:04 the English pass inside was Forward. And the only thing that surprised me more as to how far forward it was the complete ignorance of it by Commentary.
Here we go, knew it wouldn't be long until the excuses started coming in. Wales were terrible today, the scoreline flattered them, Farrell left 10 points either side of the posts. Nobody else saw this "forward" pass except you and your one eye.

Owen Farrell had an absolute stinker today. He's not played well for several games now. Not quite sure what Steve Borthwick is thinking. Farrell should not be guaranteed a place in the starting lineup simply because he's the captain. Give captaincy to Genge or Lawes and get Farrell off the pitch and bring Marcus Smith on. What's the point in giving players like Smith 14 seconds at the end of a game. It's an insult! Marcus Smith is the far superior playmaker and kicker, while having a much faster line and attacking speed. Also, Van Poortfliet isn't bad, but Mitchell has had a blinder for the 20 minutes of rugby he's been allowed to play this tournament.
England were bad, but Wales were worse. Forget that thrashing to Ireland, I thought Wales played worse in this game. Even time they got in the 22, you thought they were gonna give the ball away, and they did. Had they not pinched a lucky try, to think they only would've scored 3 points at home is insane.

@@johnkedward4774 yeah i'd say so too. not clear sign of grounding at all there. but the welsh try, ok, even if you'd consider it good welsh play, it's individual play, but personally, I see that as bad play from England. If I did that in a game I'd be fuming with myself.
