Taufik Hidayat (born 10 August 1981 in Bandung, West Java) is a retired Indonesian badminton player. He is a former World and Olympic champion in men's singles. He has also won the Indonesian Open six times (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006).[2] When he was young, he joined the SGS Club, a badminton club in Bandung, where he trained under Iie Sumirat. Hidayat won the men's singles competition in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In August 2005, he won the men's singles competition at the IBF World Championships. He also won the gold medal at the Asian Games twice, at Busan in 2002 and Doha in 2006. Popular media has at times focused on the perceived rivalry between Hidayat and Chinese player Lin Dan, referring to the two as "arch rivals".[3][4][5] In November 2012, Hidayat built a badminton training center named Taufik Hidayat Arena (THA), located at Ciracas, East Jakarta. The Center is owned and named after himself. THA is structured based on true passion, forms of struggle, and desire of a former of World and Olympic Champion, Taufik Hidayat. [6]
I really miss taufik. Hardly there are any players like him in this generation. Lin dan & lcw are better than taufik still I love his way of playing. you are my inspiration in badminton.
I agree with you with you that Lin dan may be better than taufik. But not Lcw! Remember Taufik has won Oiympic single gold , world championship and Asia game gold medal.
@@xthene I know where u're going and i respect that. I agreed that "backhand smash" has already been in use since 80s but that's not the actual backhand smash. It's just a backhand dropshot with raw power and people saw and thought it was backhand smash at first. Backhand smash itself was discovered and invented where Taufik uses this technique properly. But again, i understand your stand point. I respect that.
Taufik Hidayat prime time is 1999-2007. In his prime both Lin Dan and LCW never won in head to head against TH. TH vs Lin Dan 3-2, TH vs LCW 7-2. Unfortunetly TH still play until 2013 he retired. LD prime is 2008 (when he won olympic gold medal) until 2014. In this era LD won many worldcup because the world cup held every year since 2007 and also super series era begin. For sure if the era of superseries start earlier, i think no one can achieve alot of trophy than TH. But fortunetly this happen in LD prime.
before SS was held in 2007 there was an open tournament, and Taufik could only have a maximum of 2-3 titles per year even in his prime (1999-2006) and LD in 2004-2006 (still not in his prime) was able to win 5-6 titles per year, so an argument "if SS held during taufik prime no one can achieve alot of trophy than TH" is not valid. And during his prime taufik appeared in 5 WC (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006) and only 1 won one time on the other side LD from 2006-2013 appeared in 6 WC and won 5x, so once again not valid. So the point is Taufik even in his prime never as consistent as lin dan.
Ibnu munawar, as you mention taufik prime from 1999-2007, yet he didnt win anything from 1999-2004. He was not all England champ, WS, or Olympic champ, Obviously his prime is only a short time from 2004-2006. Even it's at his prime, he joined 10+ tournament each year but was only able to win 1 title each year, most top player are doing better than him. Grand prix gold is equal to SS and now its rename to WT but it's the same. He just cant win much. Espicailly the first two games h2h vs a young player while you are at your prime and they are just start into this pro level. I can pick a time frame too if I were act like you, its 10-0 h2h from 2007-2012. "LIN dan won many wc because it hold every year" Dude, it's not about how many time it held, it's about how many times you joined. Taufik joined everytime it held, but was only able to win 1 out of 10 times he joined. Lin dan was able win win 5 times and silver.
sejujurnya LD itu bukan senjata utamanya jumpsmash... dia termasuk biasa saja ukuran elite player smash. footworknya yg sangat2 rapih, dan semua stroke dia sangat2 rapih bikin lawan sulit untukcari celah buat serang.. bisa serang pun dia dive returnnya ampuh banget.. jd sulit bikin opening..
@@ZhuGeLiang6969 Lin Dan jaman 2004-2011 bisa smash dari posisi mana aja dan yg bikin ngeri angle smashnya yg nukik, dan trademarknya LD kalo sering nonton matchnya salah satunya around head/overhead smash tajam yg bisa dilakuin dari posisi sulit. Tapi LD overall emang bagus disegala aspek dan ahli taktik juga
messi and ronaldo from badminton, i mean taufik like ronaldo because his Lifestyle,and lindan like messi taufik have backhand smash,like ronaldo have knuckle ball,lindan have awesome smash and defend with his left hand
You can't compare taufik with Lin Dan. Taufik was not even at his level at anytime, even when he was at his peak. But taufik was good before Lin Dan entered the stage.
I feel that Taufik has such a STRONG touch when he hits. The sounds is always clear. Like it seems that he can smash the hardest, but since his angle is not good, lin dan can always block it. Too bad he's lacking a lot of athleticism and form. If he can jump like lee chong wei or lin dan while smashing, that would be something amazing lol.
+Get lost I think Taufik was suffering from injury later part of his career otherwise I don't think Lin is better .. may be better in fitness due to Taufik's injury but not in overall skill level
Hajumula lol taufik will always be one of the best... but stats and everything show that Lin Dan is the best in history. His footwork is A LOT better, even his smashes. Taufik had it going for him when he was younger, but you can't compare that to lin dan lol. Every single aspect of the game, Lin Dan is better. There are 2 things that Taufik is better : smashing and maybe net shots. But even though Taufik smashes harder, Lin Dan smashes are more lethal because of the angles he put on them, while Taufik only has a strong power when it comes to smashing. Sorry, but saying Taufik is better than Lin Dan is just a matter of being Biased and showing preference. Can't really argue.
ı lıke lin dan too brother there is no bias and yes stats are with lin, and yes due to injury taufik couldn't keep up .. but ı like the flare ın taufik's game thats all ..ı thınk Lın has a better defense too plus he was fit and young
Aini Hkzaman i dont think so. Lin Dan is Ronaldo and Lee Chong Wei is Messi. Cause Lin Dan has won badminton team competition with his country, but Lee Chong Wei has not.

Lin dan has won many tittle just like ronaldo won tittle in his club and his nation. Taufik win many precious tittle but not as much as lindan just like messi. And both taufik and messi is unique player that will born for long long time... Ibrahimovic is absolutly lee cong wei ? Why ? Because they never won any champion league tittle and any precious tittle in hiw country. But yes.. he did win many major club league tittle, like italy, spain, england, France and usa. Just like lee cong wei win many super series... But unfortunatly.. No champion and no european tittle. No world cup bwf and olympic tittle Huahahahahahahahahhaha...

Since then Taufik Hidayat is quit from badminton worlds and being an usuall husband and father for his family :) he is still alive anyway and has his owh badminton school ..
