British football fan here (I say that cause I'm English, but support Celtic), and honestly this is amazing! I always like watching a sport develop and grow in an area, or watching a new team take root and grow a fanbase, so I've been keeping an eye on the CPL since it was first announced. I remember watching the video where they announced the first 7 teams and where they were gonna be based, and watching the highlights of the first ever game, seeing Forge become the inaugural champions, and then seeing them become the first-ever back-to-back CPL champs! And this tops all of that for me! Seeing a 3-year-old CPL team, which hasn't finished higher than 4th yet, beat an MLS team, that in its current form is 11 years old and altogether is 47, on home turf in a Canadian Championship match is honestly incredible, and an absolutely fantastic advertisement for the beautiful game in North America! Before this I was a bit of a fan of Valour FC in Winnipeg, mainly cause of William Akio's RU-vid vlogs, but after this I'm gonna have to keep an eye on Pacific from now on! This was awesome! :)
Honeslty Noah, Pacific FC is a great team and hasnte really had time to gel. This region has always had an amazing soccer following. Also if you ever are to travel, the pacific coast is a lot better then Winnipeg in terms of veraity of landscapes.
@@ManOnMars5 I'll keep note of that. I do wanna go to Canada in the next 3-5 years, but ideally I wanna do Toronto. See if I can't do a kind of sports tour, see the Wolfpack (My rugby league team), the Arrows, the Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays, the Argonauts, and TFC while I'm there hahaha but BC does sound awesome!
@@lortpilopoloralphlauren7429 They've given an expansion spot to Regina, Saskatchewan. They're currently working out the logistics of building a stadium, but the team are set to start in 2023 :)
Hilarious. Whitecaps lose to a team that invested less than a million dollars in their entire roster, including their coaches. It's so hard to show support for this team.
What a match. The atmosphere in the stadium was unreal and you could tell that there was a lot of passion for the beautiful game. It felt like Pacific stepped up to the game in every way that one could hope for. Can't wait to see more from them
Just got back from this , what a freakin night! First time out with my son (9), traded some old VWC gear for new PFC gear.. FANS FOR LIFE!!! Can’t wait for the next game.. Oh and shoutout to the Fans, great atmosphere!
That would be me you’re talking about! Lmao. I’m still complaining about it. This game was perfect except for that horrible camera angle. Something needs to change. They’ve had this problem since the league started so I’ll assume one of two things: 1. They don’t care. 2. They can’t fix it.
There is a hydro pole with wires running directly overhead of where the camera is. They aren't allowed to be any higher for safety reasons until it is removed.
I've heard it reported recently that the hydro pole that is causing the camera to have to be low to the ground, is coming out before next season. I haven't seen an official statement on that though. Hopefully it's true.
Watched this in the backseat during a road trip. Good performance from Pacific! Also I’m loving that the whitecaps have finally used a designated player wisely with Gauld, he’s done well so far.
I say keep Whitecaps in MLS for as long as possible. Whitecaps vs Pacific created this a special meeting. Having the Canadian MLS teams join CPL will dilute that.
But it's going to allow for some nice new derbies and make the Canadian Classique the showcase derby in the CPL similar to how Le Classique is Ligue 1 and El Clasico is La Liga.
Forge has also beat top teams from Honduras,Panama, el Salvador that have been around for 60+ years. Cavalry beat vancouver 2 years ago I believe so this is very exciting for a 3 year old league
I'd love to see the PFC / Cavalry winner take out TFC (if York doesn't do it). Unfortunately the CSA always loves TFC and they have 3 home ties if they run the table.
Being from Regina I don't have a dog in this hunt but darn...if the rest of Victoria is as beautiful as this stadium I wish I could move there. Congrats Pacific FC!
Victoria is gorgeous. I haven't been in about fifteen years but it's an incredible city. There's nowhere like it anywhere else in Canada. And the weather isn't bad either.
You have no idea how much talent exists in Semi-pro and even amateur leagues! The Whitecaps don't do justice to BC and its football capacity... Congrats to Pacific for their great win!
Dundee United fan here, checking out how Gauld is doing…but the star of the show was Vancouver’s right-back, laziest player I have ever seen. Guy was watching the game, not playing it
I try to go to a Caps game or two per season, but even before the pandemic they were a bit boring and there were few edge of the seat moments. Getting soundly beaten by a lower tier team reminds me they might not be worth a ticket yet. Good for the Tridents though, glad for those players making the most of their opportunity.
CPL is not a lower tier. The players are taking a salary hit to pave the way for a solid Canadian premier league and that's the only difference. Hats off to them and we should be grateful. MLS teams have never had an easy time vs CPL teams since they started the league in 2019.
De Santos and brother fired. I wonder if the Whitecaps will go after coach Kah. Pacific put a fabulous effort on the field. Remember when he played for Whitecaps. Shoutout to Aparicio, the man's an energizer bunny and he can finish, excellent.
We need a preseason trophy for this matchup, or at least have the Vancouver second team play in the CanPL so that there can be a true set of BC Derby matchups.
Naming rights are complicated. The chances of an MLS team coming to the CPL are low and the chances of a CPL team deciding to join the MLS is 0 because of wage complications, naming rights, and the already set paths the teams have taken
@@LeBaseballGuy Most countries don't and can't have teams playing in neighbouring countries. Canada and Wales are exceptions to the rule. A regular cup would still be interesting but for different reasons.
@RyyCube Yeah, they were trying but they have these moments where they just give up on defending. It's a problem with all MLS teams in international competitions. It's like they're trained to allow the opposition's top $ attackers to get their highlight reel moments.
@RyyCube This was the first whitecaps game I have not watched this season mls or not so thank you for updating me! but, all the comments that i was seeing were saying that the whitecaps were destroyed and from the highlights it looked like they were not trying.
Not even surprised the caps lost. Already had a big feeling they’re going to lose to a lower division team. Lots of their players should be playing in the cpl
@@dozde3719 Better doesn't mean more seats. Starlight's a beautiful stadium with an excellent atmosphere. BC Place is a toilet with no atmosphere whatsoever.
