Also noteworthy is that every year when it gets closer to winter, the park theming is changed to 'Winter Efteling' with lots of changes to several key features of the park. Several buildings get 'snow covers', stands selling more wintery drinks like hot cocoa and glühwein are added and a lot of the open areas in the park are equipped with huge campfires with benches around them where you can warm yourself. The atmosphere of Winter Efteling is an attraction in and of itself.

Been to De Efteling this year. I went into the Fairytale forest with my 3 year old cousin. It felt so nostalgic because back in the 90's is when my uncle and aunt guided me through the forest, and now I am that uncle :D

When I first took my middle sons to Europe, when they were tweens, Efteling was their favourite place. They waxed lyrical about it so much that my younger two had to go a few years later. Last year, my older grandsons insisted it be included on the itinerary of their first European visit too. 🇰🇪🇦🇺🇨🇦

The Efteling started as a large playground with picnic fields. My mom played there as a kid many times. But it wasn't even named the Efteling back then.She was born in 1940. I have a photo of my mom,my aunt and some of their nieces taken in front of the frogpond in 1957. Yeah, those donkey coins...wel, my mom had one, I had one, my kids have them.(There's a pattern here😂: You cannot be a kid in the Efteling without wanting one. Even if you think you don't want one, trust me: you WILL want one.) Walt Disney visited the Efteling, looking for inspiration for his Disneyland. The Efteling has his own little museum (inside the parc, open for free) and you can see Walt there in some photos. I'm lucky. I live about 10 km away from The Efteling and I've had a subscription for many years when our kids were younger. Some summers we would visit several times a week. (When the place would get too crowded, we would go home just to return the next day and start where we had left of) Or...Kids being free from school on wednesday afternoon, packin up lunch and go to the Efteling for a couple of ours. They had a blast. I know, I'm biased but I think the Efteling is by far the best parc in the world. ( and I've visited many!) No matter your age, you'll find something fun for everyone there. Bring on part 2! Love this.

@Violet, the oldest literary version of the fairy tale is in the French chivalric romance Perceforest from 1340. The fairy tale was first published in 1634 by the Italian Giambattista Basile with the title Sun, Moon and Talia. Better known is the 1697 version by the French writer Charles Perrault, under the title The Sleeping Beauty in the Forest, first published in 1697 And Snow White is by German brothers Grimm from 1812.

Ah the unfortunate Disneyfication of our ancient fairytales and already several generations growing up only knowing the altered Disney version. Absolutely not her fault, but kind of sad to see tbh.

i am going to blow your mind Violet the brothers Grimm are 2 german brothers who wrote a lot of the fairytales we know today among which are little red ridinghood, cinderella, snowwhite, sleeping beauty and much more. these brothers lived between 1785 and 1863 so the fairytales ar older than anyone alive now. It is said that Walt disney visited the Netherlands and even he came to the Efteling where some of his ideaas were born Highly great how you teach this little girl. The fairy tale about the water Lillies was written by none other than the Belgian Queen Fabiola. So you could call it a royal original story!

I am dutch and I am going to the efteling twice a year. And when I was little we had an subscription on the efteling that year we went there a lot. In the summer we went after school until closing time. And I am still learning about the fairytales who I've seen so many times.

The Indische waterlelies and the fakir on the flying carpet were always my favourites in the fairy tale forest ... oh and the gnome village and ... I guess about everything ...

Being used to Disney I can imagine a bit of a surprise looking at the Efteling Violet. The stories in the Efteling are not as sweet as the Disney versions are. I'm convinced you would thoroughly enjoy it nevertheless.

In my lifetime I've been many times to the Efteling, even a few years ago and it's great fun, each time we visit again. I was 10 or 11 when I went for the first time and those "simple" fairy tale attractions were magical to us. You must know that there was nothing like it before and we were amazed by the movement of the scenes and especially the flying carpet and also the dancing water lilies. Also, and this is probably mentioned a few times in the comments, Disney came to the Efteling for inspiration for Disneyland. I think Violet would love all the rides of the Efteling ✍️😊👍

i went there while in Tilsburg for an Ayreon concert this last Sept. It is a great park. I am from South Carolina, but have been to disneyland and love it, but Eiftling is in my opinion, More Fun and it's Beautiful as well

The landscaping of the efteling is a beauty in itsselfe. We live near the efteling and when the kids were small we used to go there a lot just to take a walk trough the park or feed the ducks on the gondoletta.

I,m from flemish Belgium,we live 1hour drive from efteling,we go almost every year,my 6 year old daughter is a big fan,and i have been there al lot,the grimm stories are older than disney so efteling was first ,they are doing a really good job to keep everything new!its the best park in Europe!

3:07 The fairytales are mainly collected by the grimm brothers. I have a version with the original text. Most are in standard German. Some are quite hard to read because they are in dialect, but some of those are relatively easy (to me) because the language is little different from Dutch border dialects.

Highly you realise now as honourary Dutchie you have to keep the tradition alive and take Violet there.😊

Fairy tales should be a bit scary; to teach kids about danger and the difference between right and wrong. Peter and the wolf wouldnt be scary if he didnt get eaten by the wolf.

Been there once, when i was a teenager, can remember i took a ride in the bobsledcoaster, i screamed almost my longs out 😂. There is also a animated toon serie called "Jokie", sort younger mascot of the Elfteling, you can google that one too. A friend of mine worked on the animation, he is a digital animator. Don't know if the animation come in english though.

In the Netherlands is visiting the Efteling part of bringing up your child. Efteling is really made for open up imaginations and fantasies. Not like Disneyland...

In fact: Walt Disney himself came to the Netherlands in 1951-1952 and based Disneyland upon the Efteling!

The brothers Grimm bundled many Germanic tales after collecting them by listening to older people who knew these tales. While they are said to be fairytales, these stories carry within them a deep spiritual meaning, a spiritual teaching symbolized in a story. There are multiple books which give a detailed insight into the meaning and symbolism of Germanic tales such as Sleeping beauty and snow white or Hansel and gretel and so on. :) Many years ago i've started a website through which i created a fairytale theme and dark forest, it got me in contact with beautiful people who did practise the old art of witchcraft and started my journey through the Germanic tree of life Yggdrasil.

Ah now she knows that Disney is fake 🤣 The Netherlands first America second 😅
