At around 7:00 am Tuesday, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Laurel Road on the Highway 4 overpass went off the roadway and down an embankment.
The crash occurred on the City of Antioch and City of Oakley border where a man went through a fence and made a 10-ft drop before overturning down the embankment and coming to a rest.
According to witnesses, the man was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Oakley Police officers arrived on scene and found the man to be alert and talking, however, he was trapped in his vehicle. Firefighters arrived on scene a short time later and freed the man where he was taken to a medical helicopter and airlifted to a local hospital.
The crash is currently being investigated by the Antioch Police Department where distracted driving may be the cause.
